Television Invincible (Amazon Prime)

I thought that it would've been stupid of Kate not to have a copy stashed somewhere

I was so scared when that women showed up and beat the living shit out of Mark. I won’t be ready for when they meet again…if they have the balls to do it.

That was good and a pretty subdued ending in the end, but sets up season three well. I do think the stuff with Angstrom or whatever he’s called was a bit less shocking than I expected it to be. Though I did wince when he snapped Debbie’s arm, I guess I just expected there to be more fall out than just “Mark turned out to be way stronger and pummelled him to a crisp”.

good series again, but season one was stronger. I really hope we don’t have to wait nearly three fecking years again.

Good finale that but yeah the wait between seasons is agonising.

Genuinely needed that recap this week to remember who Angstrom was and that was only the start of this season in November

Oh man the wait is going to be unbearable. Marks relationship scenes were the most boring for me so glad that's over. Allen is such a great character. Nolans development is handled pretty well I'd say, it's not easy to give a space nazi murderer a redemption arc. It's all just so damn good.

Season 3 I'm hoping to see a lot more of a certain feline with exceptional strength.

Of course Kate is alive  So nobody died from dramatic beatdown they got.

Good finale but feels like they solved Mark being stuck in that alternate dimension a bit quickly.

Just a note for those who enjoy this show, Xmen 97 is well worth watching and the most recent episode felt a bit like Invincible

That episode was the Marvel Animation equivalent of the red wedding. Just a superb episode.

That was one of the best episodes I've ever seen of the animated series.

Regarding X-Men 97, can you jump in here or do you need to have watched the original series?

Need to refresh my memory on where they left it.

Watched the first 3 episodes. First 2 were solid, 3rd was a bit too soapy. Especially enjoyed the back story on Cecil in episode 2.

Now back to waiting for weekly drops.

Yeah been decent. I feel like I can’t be arsed with the Oliver storyline. There’s only so many times I can watch the trope of a kid being told what to do and disobeying. I mean did we not already have it with Mark himself? It’s a bit played out. I get that they’re making him a bit more psycho but I dunno I just find it a bit tired.

Yeah first 3 were good. 2 was a real highlight.

It’s weird, felt like this show was the next big thing after season one dropped, but then they had the massive gap to season two, and then splitting it into two parts, feels like it’s lost so much of the momentum it had.

Really enjoyed the second half of episode 4. Allen is quality.

And the reveal at the end of the first half was good as well.

Just binged all 4 episodes on a long bus journey, I fecking love this show.

I forgot how good this is after season 2 finished and waiting for season 3. Its been great so far.

The one thing I still dont like is Mark's suit. But mainly the bug eyes it has. I hope he loses that

Not to be all Comic Book Guy but Alan the Alien doesn't even flinch during those execution attempts but he's running away and scared of gunfire from the prison guards?

I’ve quite enjoyed this since the beginning, but I must say that I do not understand the hype around it. It’s very much a young adult cartoon with added swearing and some extra gore. It’s perfectly entertaining but is also quite pedestrian and clunky at times.

One of the things I particularly like about it is how much heart and character the non superhero side characters have. Debbie, Donald, Amber, Will and Rick, etc. They also have a lot of characters who feel a bit more real than some cartoons, shows and movies. They go through all kinds of emotions, deal with depression and grief and with how brutal the world they are in there's always an impending doom for them so they could die when trouble comes.

Some of it is more generic, or dirivative. For example the major plot with the Viltumites is the same as with the Saiyans in Dragonball. But while it isnt completely original with that plot, or with Viltrumites being similar to Kryptonians, I think they are able to go into some grey areas and make you think abbout the two sides to things. Things like all the benefits of Viltrumite rule vs not having agency and our own free will to destroy the planet... Cecil building an armory against Viltrumites, what Omniman's ultimate fate should be if he cotinues to change as a person and ultimately helps to overcome the Viltrumite empire and if saving so many people is enough to make up for all the bad hes done. Now the plot with Oliver growing up fast and being like his dad, what that might ultimately mean Mark will have to do. I think the show does a great job at making you think about those things.

Yeah there’s been quite a lot of moments like that. Feels like the show is forgetting it’s own rules and people’s powers become effective/ineffective based on the needs of the story.

Also feels like they’re cutting some corners in terms of animation. It’s lost something I can’t quite put my finger on.

Still enjoyable though for the most part.

Probably costs a fortune to animate 50 minute long episodes and maybe they’re trying to get seasons out a bit quicker too.

I think it’s been immense, but there are fair criticisms about some of the continuity. It does seem the thing with Alan and being shot by the lasers was intentional though? He even said it in the show.

Poor regular citizens in this world. Just crushed to death regularly
