Introducing new site design and features

Good point.

I'll change the link on your username in the top right corner box (i.e. Welcome, Merman") to go to your CP rather than your member page (which isn't as useful for the currently logged in user anyway).

Nice new layout. One problem for me....no New Posts button at the BOTTOM of the page....I keep going there but its not there have to scroll back up to the top of the page. Small things but I use it a lot.

Big miss for me too, it's when you don't have it you realise how much you used it.

Other than that though, love the new layout Niall, good job, cheers.

How do I see who is currently online?

I only PM people if there on..

Are you planning on changing the header, Niall?
Removing the "View New Posts" from the PM box and moving total PMs number up on the same line as the rest?

As the most senior, articulate and sensible poster, I think most of the Caf would like to read my weekly blog. In fact maybe I should have my own forum on the Caf.

I'm going to fix the PM line so it doesn't wrap - it was never meant to. other than a few more pieces of tidying up, nothing else will change.

Are the quote tags in PM's fecked up? Or is Smashed just a bit of a Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime?

Whenever you have a multiple choice question where one of the possible answers is 'Smashed is just a bit of a Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime' it's that. Always. Final answer.

Actually, come to think of it, if that's not one of the possible answers then it's a trick question. The secret answer is of course, 'Smashed is a Ihni binni dimi diniwiny anitaime'.

But the "View New Posts" link is a bit pointless as well, Niall. We already have that in the grey menu, and all it does is push the actual content a line further down.

Oh, and is the site announcement box going to change to a more neutral colour after a couple days?

The link is in the sub navigation in the forum pages yes, but not elsewhere on the site. I felt 'View New Posts' was one of the most widely used and useful pages on the site hence why it's in the global user box.

I'm open to suggestions for a more useful link (or two) to go in there instead?

Anyway, tour header is too narrow, let things breath man!

The site announcement box will disappear full stop when I think it has received enough exposure. I plan to implement a system where announcements can be acknowledged by each user by clicking a 'x' in the box. It won't re-appear until a new announcement is published.

But that's a fair bit off. Just be glad I didn't pick a more eye watering yellow :)

It would do great if you can move the contents of the rimaldo poster origin thread on to the wiki pages of individual posters.

I think that's already begun. The player profiles, or Rimographies as he and I provisionally christened them, are in the wiki as of earlier today.

Don't listen to anything Top says Niall, he's trying to disorientate you with suggestions and requests so you're busy working on them whilst he attempts to take over the Caf...Don't fall for it!

I figured as much, well it ain't gonna happen on my shift!!

The flaw in your argument Bumdogg is that I'd struggle to turn the computer on if there wasn't a flashing light attached to the button. Let alone take over a site.

Niall knows this as I've PM'd him at least 40 times since the new site went into opperation to ask a multitude of retarded questions about how to do things...I was still logging into the staging site for about 4 hours after the new site went active trying to post a blog and wondering why it wasn't working!

I can fairly confidently state I'm the least computer literate person on this site!

I guess it's because I don't personally use the New Posts function that I find it a bit pointless to have two obvious links to it.
Design is a matter of opinion though, and I like symmetry which was why I made the sketch with the two boxes aligned.
Just like how I think the "View New Posts" would look better underneath the other lines in the box if it has to stay there - that way the lines won't go from long, short, long.

Niall, any chance of putting a 'new posts' link at the bottom of the page, in the forums, somewhere. Scrolling back up to the top is becoming a pain. Spoilt are we. Didn't realize how often I used it till it wasn't there!

Yep all fair points and I appreciate the tips.

I'll see how moving the new posts link down looks.

The announcement box won't necessarily always be 3 lines, it might spread to four depending on what the announcement is. Having a generously spaced header allows that flexibility.

Ack details details :)

Yep I will, just use the home key on your keyboard in the mean time - that's what it's there for :)

Hey Niall, when I try to post a pic on Internet explorer it shows a box with a cross on it but it works perfectly in firefox. You know what I can do to stop that? The new design is great by the way

How are you posting the pic exactly?

I just did 3 quick examples.

First as it is now (with the line moved up), then with the New Posts at the bottom and finally with it at the top.

Your original choice is probably the best, I'm afraid to admit. Though I still think it looks a bit asymmetrical.

Okay, so your a racist then?

When you type something into the google search bar, it takes you to a new blank google page, you have to type the search in again.

I just discovered this while searching for "Archbishop Don Juan the Magic Wand", who is Snoop Dogg's "spiritual advisor" (drug dealer). If anyone's interested, it gleaned two results, one a somewhat poofy thread about sincher, the other a thread that seems to have been deleted, almost certainly by me. But anyway, the larger point is that I had to type "Archbishop Don Juan the Magic Wand" twice, unnecessarily.

That shit ain't right yo.

The google search is as pointless as Richter's penis.

The google search is broken, it's on my to-do list to fix.
