Internationals September (World Cup Qualifiers)

It was only a matter of time. Couldn't let him slip off to Spain like Laporte, not that I know if that was ever a real consideration.
That would have been malpractice. Imagine losing out on one of the top 2-3 LWB in the world :wenger:

Enjoyed Scotland-Austria, Scotland were great and very composed on the ball. Aranutovic could barely run all game. They missed the tall guy upfront and looks like Fode will get sacked by his reaction at the end.

Scotland would have a chance of 1st if Denmark weren't lights out in this group, incredible level from them in last year.

Austria went from taking the Champions of Europe to extra time to losing to fecking israel and scotland at home...

FIFA needs to feck off with their September int slot. It's nonsense. I am definitely not saying this because the italian league starts in the last week of august and we're always unfit in September btw

So great watching Denmark at the moment. We haven’t been this good for at least 20 years. The squad has a great mix of experience and exciting talent, with plenty of quality all across the pitch and a great coach. Mæhle, Damsgaard, Kjær, Højbjerg, Delaney and Wass were all great tonight. It would take a genuine disaster for us not to win the group now.

The group is crap, sure, but any national team that gets six wins in six games without conceding a goal deserves praise.

After the 1st game the knives were out, and I had a right go myself.

6 points from 9 out of those fixtures is a decent return though and we have given ourselves a chance of grabbing that 2nd spot. Israel is a huge game now and no surprise that the game is now sold out! Win that and 2nd place is pretty much Scotland’s to throw away.

Very entertaining match from NL.. Great team performance, almost all players played very well.. Very much fun tonight.. Definitely something to build further upon.. Some great prospects coming through with Bijlow Malacia Rensch Timer Gravenberch Gakpo, Malen.. Van Dijk, De Vrij, De Ligt, Memphis and Frenkie are world class.. Blind Wijnaldum, Klaassen, Berghuis, Dumfries can be really good players in a well built team.. Probably forgetting some, but with a good coach there is definitely something possible with this team..

I want to see more of Rensch and was kinda bummed out when the Tagliafico deal didn't go through. He's good going forward but also calm with the final pass/shot and he's good with both feet. Gravenberch excites me more than Koopmeiners, the latter seems like a worse version of Blind.

It is amazing. The support is also fantastic. Never experienced this support to the national team. A friend claims its the best team we have had since the legendary 80s, and I tend to agree - with the emphasis on team. Going to Parken is such a pleasure these days

Genuinely such a likeably team too, no Bendtner, etc.

100%. It’s so difficult and show a mental discipline that can let a team go very far.

Hey, don’t insult the Lord! I do agree though. There is also no drama about who should be starting or anything like that. Just a great togetherness in the squad.

As for the greatest Danish team debate they are arguably only up against the 1998 team with Schmeichel, Laudrup x2, Jørgensen, etc., who gave Brazil a real run for their money in the WC quarter-final, and the 1980’s team.

6-1 Netherlands. That is a crazy win.

I think Norway HAS to win in Netherland now to have any chance of winning the group, no way we are making up that goaldifference if we can't score more against a team that lets you shoot as much as you want from anywhere you want. Not a very realistic ask.

A win in Holland isn't happening. We need to focus on finishing second and for that to happen we need to get two or more points from away games in Turkey and Holland. That'll be a challenge in itself with our crap defence.

[minirant] Still fuming over our "home" game against Turkey in fecking Spain. Those conditions were exactly what Turkey dreamt of and the complete opposite of what we'd want. On top of that we had our Nations League campaign sabotaged, we lost one game on walkover and then had to try and win an away game against our main competitors with essentially our C team. Euro 2020 playoffs, we get the benefit of home advantage but for some insane reason you're not allowed to have more than 200 people in a 30k stadium. So much for that home 'advantage'. A year later and most people are vaccinated but for some reason we're allowed 1/4 capacity against the Dutch. Fullish capacity against a nervous Holland last week could've potentially edged it in our favour.

All this is a stark contrast to what Denmark are doing. Yes their team is a million times better than ours but at least they're not having to fight additional battles against their own government. They were having close to capacity crowds at the Euros, meanwhile we weren't even allowed to host home friendlies a couple of weeks before that. Even tonight Denmark were playing in front of a 95 % capacity, while we were at 35 %. Our authorities have neglected all kinds of sports since the start of the pandemic. Kids, recreational, pros, all have been victims of incompetence and the failure to realise what kind of value sports and physical activity brings to the table. Glad this bent government is in its final week in power, good riddance. [/minirant]

Hey I won't tolerate any Bendtner slander :D

Denmark really struck gold with Hjulmand. He's such an impressive coach, the talent coming through are in great hands. Damsgaard already looks like one of the most important players in the team.

Great call in hindsight. Almost every other federation would’ve extended Hareide’s contract with the record he had. I don’t think that would’ve been a good decision.

Haha, I dont dislike the lord per se, but he really is the shining example of a dividing factor

Hjulmand is fantastic, whoever is lucky enough to pick him up (and give him the time/support he needs/deserves) when he inevitably moves on, will be lucky. I love a reactonary coach like him

Was saying it in the euros. The squad of players is excellent and literally needs a coach who isn't garbage. Wasted tournament with De Boer. Van Gaal will have you guys competing IMO.

I actually dislike him quite a bit. If he had just a shred of sense and professionalism, he would arguably still be playing for the national team and probably be our all-time top scorer (he would certainly be close). I always found it quite frustrating that one of our most talented pure strikers decided to piss away his career to eventually end up doing shitty reality TV.

Absolutely. Hjulmand's management has been fantastic so far. This team has been a joy to watch (well those first 45 minutes against the Farøe Islands were a bit tough to watch, but it was basically a B team).

The way he's going, I wouldn't mind seeing him replace Klopp when the time comes.

Damien Delaney is sitting there trying to claim Southgate is experimenting with a more attacking line up as he normally has 7 behind the ball and he's gone with a back four.

The bloke is a feckin moron

The referee has been paid off. That or he's bitter our boys gave his boys a leathering in the summer. Every single decision he has made is in Poland's favour and was wrong.

Germany already in the lead vs Iceland, way better start than the Liechtenstein match.

May I ask why please?

We're having a debate here and I'd need arguments.

As far as I know the new Fifa rules regarding handball doesn't care if it's accidental or not.

You can read it here:

So you may argue this is not a pen according to the bold part. However surely he could turn around without raising his arm I think. It's not like he's jumping or sliding tackle.
Admittedly the big shitbag doesn’t help himself by not standing tall and making himself small.

But not a penalty for me. It’s point blank and I don’t think there’s much conscious action between the ball getting struck and it hitting his arm. He’s tried to get away from the shot and hasn’t made himself bigger using his arms. I’d say the arm couldn’t have been kept much smaller in that movement, without actually chopping them off.
