I don’t care about those friendlies after Colombia absolutely bottled their qualifiers. We had a coach called Reynaldo Rueda, whose cowardliness knows no limit, his tactics centered around “keeping the zero” instead of scoring goals, which lead to Colombia only tying matches. If we won only one mere match, we would have classified.

Colombian coaches are worthless and outdated. I know we never have been exactly great, but we should have at least qualified.

I understand what you are saying that Southgate will not make changes now and the time will have passed however the squad is heavily unbalanced in defence. Why are there 4 right backs? Surely you can just have Walker and James at RB and Trippier and Chilwell at LB. There is no need for TAA and Shaw to be there. You can then bolster the midfield and perhaps pick an extra attacker. Maddison has 10 assists in his last 9 games and had the best goal contribution of any English attacking midfielder last season. Great player to have in the squad yet not picked. Smalling has been great for Roma last season and start of this and deserves a call up instead of Coady and even Maguire. White has started well for Arsenal and perhaps should be ahead of Guehi however that is a close call either way.

I disagree. Grealish would get more minutes in that City team than Sancho. Grealish had very though competition, Sancho barely has any. Sancho has been in the squad for a long time, simply because he has been mediocre

Since the start of this season Sancho has performed better than Grealish. Simple as that.

He was equally as shit during the last European champs. Put someone half decent in charge for that and we would have won it. Its a shame.

I disagree. Sancho is massively overrated in here. Barely any other football fans miss him in the call up. Grealish is a better player, him being on the bench for city doesn't change that fact

Grealish has been wank since he left Villa and been about as impressive for England as Sancho has.

You’re not having the same discussion as the poster you quoted though.

Grealish is a better player than Sancho isn’t Sancho has played better of late than Grealish.

As a United fan I’m quite happy to see our players snubbed by England, less fodder for when they get knocked out but let’s revisit your Grealish is better argument. Both had big money moves last year & were underwhelming, this season is too young to judge but whilst one was scoring in the Champions League the other was battling relegation with Villa, I like Grealish but what has he actually done to to be so clearly rated over Sancho for you? I mean tangibly. If ever there was a player who the idea of overtook the actuality it’s this guy, he’s been pony at many points for England [as has Sancho] & wasn’t even trusted to score a penalty in the Final despite cult status amongst the fans you mention. Both have massive amounts to prove in the game.

4 right backs is legitimately insane (awb still can’t get in with 4!, not that he deserves it). CB we don’t have great options right now.
But look at the forward players we have. Better than any side in Europe I’d argue and yet we don’t play to our strengths at all. We Flood midfield with unadventurous players and hope Kane isn’t in one of his “runs like a pensioner “ phases.
Southgate is wasting one of the best England sides I’ve ever seen and the first World Cup I can really remember is Mexico 86.
Though I do remember robson scoring against France in 82 but I was only 6 at the time

It's not that I rate Grealish myself, but the poster made the comparison. Grealish has more use for England than Sancho. The lack of midfielders is a reason why Grealish is a better fit, as he can slot in there if needed. As wide players I don't think Grealish would start and definitely not Sancho as there are better English options. But if I had to chose I would play Grealish every time, as I rate him more. If Rashford was fit he would get called up, so that means Sancho is even further behind, so my guesses is that Sancho is most definitely not going to the WC and I fins that completely reasonable and justifiable. But Sancho had a good game today actually, if that continues I'd be very happy, but I doubt he can keep it going, since he never has for us

Sends out all the wrong messages to players doing well when those who have been playing shit or not playing at all are still included.

Basically what @TheGame is saying. It also shows though poor planning and foresight by Southgate which is part of Int. management. Players like Maguire were performing shite last season and he still picked them. They've now been so shite that he's not playing for United and Southgate has cornered himself and thus 'has' to pick him. It's poor management.
 
I still don't know who the other options are though? Ben White has been playing right back all season and we've already got 4 of those. So we're left with Matt Targett, Dan Burn and a few others mentioned who are clearly nowhere near international standard. You'd just be making sideways moves at best on the eve of a tournament
 
I would prefer sancho over grealish as our back up left wing option, sancho has looked good on the side. Where as grealish should be playing in Mount role but southgate is a cowardly pessimistic bore
 
The new additions are Guillamón (supposedly as a defender) and Nico Williams, Iñaki's brother.
 
At one point we could select from Terry, Rio, King, Campbell, Carragher.. heck even Woodgate. We also had it so good with Cole rarely being injured at LB. Our defense went from being possibly our strongest area to our worst. Only an inform TAA, Walker or James at RB would potentially get into that team from our current choices.
 
Feel bad for Patterson, he's been brilliant for Everton everytime I've seen him.

Yup , I like to bet on yellows so the reason I noticed how good he is (especially defensively) was because I was banking on him being overwhelmed / making rash decisions (vs Liverpool for example) but he's been solid as a rock.

Looks a bad one.

Thought it was bad form for Ukraine to keep the ball in play too.
 
Regarding Grealish he's had some good important games for England, perhaps the best was against Germany. With limited England he's perhaps important to hold onto the ball win fouls, same with Villa. Sancho has looked isolated for England and United last year. You could argue Sancho would slip in better at City than Grealish. Really I'd be looking to utilize both but with Gareth's England I'd say Grealish has stood out and been effective.
