Injury Crisis 2023/24 | Martínez and Casemiro back in training

I really don’t understand the hate that Mount gets for no reason at all
I think a lot of it isn't necessarily hating on the player, but more frustration at the decision to spend 55m on a non-priority position when there are gaping holes elsewhere in the squad.

Strange how so many people have commented on a player they deem to be pointless....

Yeah pretty much this. It's nothing personal against him, it was just a weird weird signing who so far has proven to be pretty ineffectual and it actually kind of mirrors Sancho's early days at the club. Hopefully it won't continue that way and he'll get a lot better.

Injury situation is ridiculous though.

Well that's kind of worth commenting on, especially as we spent 55 million on him. It's still very early days and the situation isn't entirely his fault but you can't blame people for being a bit underwhelmed or puzzled by the signing. It does generate discussion.

The training regime must surely be to blame. It’s ridiculous and once the heavy defeats start piling up again the pressure on ten Hah will also grow again. I’d like this season to end already, what a shit show all round.

Has anyone seen an update on Pellistri's health? He looked like he hurt himself when he slipped near the end of Uruguay's most recent game and was subbed immediately afterwards.

One year ago it was early days for Antony. Two years ago it was Sancho. Didn't really work out.

It's bizarre to say the least. Opinions change fast around here. I think he will do well in the long term. Circumstances have gone against him since he signed for us. Squad is all over the place with injuries and out of form players right now. Some posters are fickle as feck.

Tough luck for Mount this as he probably would have gotten a few games in a row to prove himself.
Not saying it was all down to 'being unlucky' but I do feel that this was also the case with DvdB, always being injured at the wrong time, and I'm getting a bit of the same vibe with the Mount-signing. Ironically all the injuries now might be a chance for DvdB to redeem himself, if he's not injured that is.

I'm genuinly hoping that Mount will prove to be a good signing, and that ETH will survive this injury-streak that we seem to be having (the fitness/physio team on the pther hand...).

Wasn’t he injured a lot woth Chelsea?

He can’t help injuries but feck me this signing is tragic on so many levels.
He had one fairly big injury at the end of his last season there. Otherwise not at all, and in fact had barely missed any games for them since breaking into their team. Basically just a game here and there.

We are cursed this season. I’ve given up on expecting the squad to return to a somewhat fit and healthy status.

Anyone else think it'd be a bit of fun to see a McTom - DVB - Mount midfield, just for the hell of it? If only we had prime Cleverly to slot into that McTom role. So much space invading.

Imagine it worked.

One report saying a month - ETH and everyone else is saying he has a minor injury - which I interpret as a day or a week rather than a month.

I hope the Ineos sports management are kept well away from football matters and focus solely on marginal (massive) gains in the medical, physiology, fitness department. It’s past bad luck now.

I don’t think the sort of niggles that would keep someone off the pitch for a day or week would even get a mention. I would say 2-4 weeks is the usual time frame for any “minor injury” that gets brought up at a press conference. Hoping for 2 but a risk of 4. That would be the norm for any grade 1 muscle or ligament strain.

At least he gets a break from being played out of position for a couple of weeks. If we had anyone who actually was a midfielder fit to play instead that might even have helped.

If you want me to lose all of my remaining hair then yes.

It has to be our training. Maybe too much intensity which is causing all these injuries, it surely can't just be a coincidence that so many players are getting injured?

3 games in 6 days and we have maybe 1 or 2 rotational options. It’s maddening

Guys it isn't training methods. It can't be. As much as we knock the club we will have a bunch of highly trained professionals on the medical/training side. Imagine how bad the medical and training side of things would have to be to cause this many injuries. It's not feasible.

It's a mixture of bad luck and naturally injury prone players.

Take the latest two. Pellistri's injury was jist bad luck. Mount was injured loads last season at a different club.

You don't get this amount of injuries and niggles through bad luck. If you push their bodies to much, too often, injuries will occur. Who's to say our medical/training staff are pulling their hair out as ETH ignores them? Its all just wild speculation as none of us ultimately know.

All I see is players returning from injury and being started game after game. It'll happen with Shaw, he'll come back and immediately start every game then get himself injured again.

It's really not, we spent a big portion of our budget on him, pointless or not it'll warrant discussion.

Nah. What you’ve claimed there is wild speculation. Putting it down to injury prone players and bad luck is rational speculation. There’s an important difference.

Nah. People are just making excuses to defend ETH and fall back on the "it's bad luck". It could easily be that ETH is simply over training them no? It could easily be that he makes them start too often after injury? That's not wild speculation, it's common sense. Instead we complain that it's bad luck. It's just people turning a blind eye.

Every outfield player we signed in the summer was injured or barely back on arrival and our preseason was pretty crap even by our own poor standards. Add those factors to the 62 matches last season (more than any club in Europe's big 5 leagues) which happened to have a World Cup shoved halfway through and maybe this isn't really so strange after all.

We've been dealt a bad hand, but it doesn't look like we've played it that well either.

Genuine question, with all these injuries is Donny available? Surely he should make at least the bench now. I lost any hope with him making it here a long time ago but we are desperate for bodies.

Donny was in training pics from earlier this week. He is eligible to play PL but not CL. He did get a brief appearance earlier in the season.

He will leave the club as soon as a suitable deal can be agreed, either in January or the summer. It had been expected that he would depart in August but Real Sociedad weren't prepared to meet United's demands.

Thanks... hopefully he can turn his career around, unlikely to be at United though. Another poor signing.
