Film Indiana Jones 5

Empire can reveal that Indiana Jones 5 finds our hero in 1969, living against the backdrop of the space race – but the American effort to beat the Russians to the moon brings with it some uncomfortable truths for Indy. “The simple fact is that the moon-landing program was run by a bunch of ex-Nazis,” Indiana Jones 5 co-writer (and acclaimed British playwright) Jez Butterworth tells Empire. “How ‘ex’ they are is the question. And it gets up Indy’s nose…” Pitching Indiana – a man always looking to the secrets of the Earth rather than the stars – into the era of the astronaut finds him even more a man out of time. “It’s not just that the model of what a hero is has completely changed,” says Butterworth. “It’s not just that they’re looking for something where there’s nothing up there – it’s like Reno without the gambling, or whatever his line is. But the people that are behind it are, you know, his sworn enemies.”

Enter Mads Mikkelsen’s villainous Voller – see above – inspired partly by real-life Nazi-turned-NASA-engineer Wernher von Braun. “He’s a man who would like to correct some of the mistakes of the past,” teases Mikkelsen of Voller. “There is something that could make the world a much better place to live in. He would love to get his hands on it. Indiana Jones wants to get his hands on it as well. And so, we have a story.”

Why can't they just leave the classic movie franchises to rest and come up with something new for a change?

What is it with film production companies ruining movies… I mean, I get that they have to make money and from that stand point i get why they make sequels, but sometimes they can destroy the legendary ones that started it.

Star Wars 1, 2, 3 - I get why it was done and was a reasonable sequence to the legendary ones, but now I have no idea what is going on with the latest spin offs

the last Indiana was absolutely shite, and now we’ve got this sequel with a 77 year old explorer. It’s going to look corny as feck with way too much cgi like the last one.

Ill be first in line to see I though

There’s been rumours swirling around that the formal title will be ‘Indiana Jones and the Prisoners of Time’ which is a cool sounding name, which probably means it absolutely won’t be… and that it’s based on an artefact that enables time travel. Mikkelsen’s character seems to hint at that with the ‘correct some of the mistakes of the past’ part.

The round glasses seem to be similar to a past villain too…

Based on the synopsis above, Indiana Jones and the Race for Space would've been an interesting curve ball

I heard there was test screenings with 6 different endings, and they all bombed with the audience. Apparently they all ended the same way, which I will spoiler just in case
With Phoebe Waller Bridge being passed Indianas hat and whip. Shes not taking over his name, but it's a passing of the torch type thing. So it's setting her up to take the franchise forward with some sequels.

Indiana Jones 5 director James Mangold has debunked reports surrounding how the film will end.

The new sequel will see Harrison Ford, 80, return as the character alongside Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

In recent months, it was claimed that test screenings of the film ended with Waller-Bridge succeeding Ford as a female version of the character.

However, Mangold has debunked these rumours, telling his Twitter followers: “No one will ever replace Indiana Jones. Not in any script. Not in any cut. Never discussed.”

He also said that, as of 11 November, there have been no screenings of the film whatsoever.

That rumor was started by a click baity Youtuber. No one credible.

This movie will be good. Mangold don't miss.

Im not saying it’s going to be shit, but I ain’t gonna say it’s going to be good either. Not after crystal skull. And while mangold might have a good rep, he ain’t the one writing it. And as much Hollywood wishes it wasn’t so, the writing is where the real magic happens.

Good news for you, he did write it! I think he co wrote with his usual partner.

Last I heard, Phoebe waller bridge wrote it. (Just checked) she didnt, thank feck. My positivity has increased. The Butterworth Brothers wrote the script, Mangold did the screenplay. Butterworth Bros did the screenplay for edge of tomorrow which was awesome. So yeah, quietly optimistic now. :D

Shame PWB isn't involved in the writing, she's excellent.

Trailer gave of these vibes.

A film made for men over 50 who randomly cry all the time.
Well I'm a man over 50 and I'm keeping clear of this. Loved 1-3, thought 4 was meh and want nothing what so ever to do with 5. While I think there is a place for octogenarians in films it's not as action heroes.

This can be done right in a beautifully nostalgic and sympathetic tone that focus's on Indie coming to terms with his physical disadvantages and the new world that's developing before his eyes.
I expect alot of back and fourth to Indies past exciting exploits and the present, with the narrative all coming together in a action packed final conclusion.

Aslong as Lucas isn't heavily involved, I think Spielberg can still pull off a great conclusion to Indie's overall story.

The title is shit though.

Edit: Keep forgetting this is Directed by Mangold, not Spielberg.
Mangold wouldn't go near this if the story wasn't good or had potential.

I thought Chris Pratt was going to take over? He's not in this?

That was one of the things I hoped for a few years back. I thought he’d have been a great replacement and then they could have done adventures that aren’t dictated by Harrison Ford’s age.

The Nazis are overused at this point and they can do decent alternative baddies. Have a Spanish themed adventure where Franco’s fascist dictatorship is the antagonist or something.

New trailer came out 3 days ago.

Seeing John Rhys-Davies back as Sallah really peeled the onions for me. I can't think of a better sidekick to Indy than him.

I hope he wears other clothes. Putting him in exactly the same outfit all the time is just a bit weird, especially now he’s so old. I get he has to wear it a bit, but Krystal Skull had him in it the whole film. The character should be able to survive not being a grubby old bum with one jacket and shirt.

I think we can all agree that KotCS was a big misfire, mainly because they let Lucas control the story. Hopefully they make amends with this one and send him off in style.
It was a nonsensical story, but also some of the most inept directing ever seen in a professional movie. Lucas and Spielberg both shat the bed, but I’d say Spielberg—as a household name with Oscars and the ability to make a movie about any topic with any cast and an almost unlimited budget—deserves more blame.
