India vs England - One Day Internationals

They have looked brilliant in the past 7 matches and they are looking the part after quite a while.

And about the youth, we have probably got the best youngsters in the world atm coming through the ranks... then how can you say that no team are producing any young talent?

Yeah they may have been playing well like I said, albeit with home advantage lately, but I wouldn't really class them as a great test side, they are the best of the bunch of what is out there at the moment.

Okay then, educate me, who do you have coming through that are actually going to be quality cricketers? I think India may have a bowler coming through but I don't think there is a bunch ... who is going to replace them big batters who have been the critical part of the team for so long? I was talking test-level here.

I thought Pakistan had the best youth side? Bangladesh have some top class youngsters coming through too.

The problem is with the youth is that they are great at one-day matches or twenty 20. Pak have some great all rounders for that - notice how they suddenly came out of nowhere and put it together in the 20/20 world cup. They didn't do at all well against SA in the test matches a while back.

Still I guess they are young and need more experience in test matches. Maybe I'm just being harsh and hoping for a few more greats emerging.

Anything around 25-26 would be fairly young for a cricketer. Yuvraj could make the step up. Rohit Sharma(who I think will be the best of the lot) and Vijay look pretty great. We've got Gambhir also. Why would you need 'youths' when cricketers can play till they're 33~ easily(Sachin, Ponting, Hayden, Dravid, Laxman, Ganguly)?

They're not world beaters, but given time, I'm sure they'll come good.

20 minutes and we'll see if the England attack has anythign better to offer. at Indore.

You know, you're not the first one to have gone with that pun, surprising is that may be. lol

16/2 with only a few overs down. So the answer to my question is yes so far, or it's going for us, i'm not fussed. :)

Broad with both, and thankfully Patel recovered to take that catch.

292
not bad
could've scored more if not for Zaheer wasting one full over in the end

I was actually being serious! I thought you were going down to watch them train or something...

Ha, we are awful at ODI's.

I think we have about 3 players who know what they're doing.

Just as we gave ourselves a chance, we blew it.

Why is Bopara batting at 8???

What's your line-up?

Prior
Bell
Shah
Pietersen
Flintoff
Collingwood
Patel
Bopara
Broad.

Are the players who can hold a bat, that's the order in which they come in...(Left out complete bowlers0.

Bopara should bat 5 in my opinion, and i'm not conviced by Prior at all, let alone him opening.

Pietersen, Flintoff + 9 shit players.

Pietersen is a good player but he must be irritated watching the lineup collapse at the other end every time

Pietersen "I bowled five overs of rubbish."

Harsh on himself. He was the one who halted our flow with Gambhir's wicket. Miles better than that Samit Patel

Unreal performance from Yuvi. That's two in a row ..... it would be amazing if he could keep this form up for the remainder of the games.

I'm suprised at the lack of fight from the top order English batting - Prior, Bell, Shah etc. No one at any point (besides Flintoff and KP during the 3rd powerplay) showed any intent to up the run rate.

The bowling needs more variation too. :p Samit Patel against an in inform Indian batting line up ? Really ?

Average England side. No quality at all in that line-up, save Pietersen.

What a waste of time this series is going to be.

A PM sent to me from the newbies, thought I might as well post it.

From beating South Africa 4-0 to this crap not good England.

To be fair to South Africa they weren't exactly busting a gut, and we were riding the crest of a wave after KP was named as captain.

As to the match itself, i wouldnt' say that there is no quality at all as someone did earlier. Shah's 58 off 78 balls stands up well to any scrutiny i would say, and the likes fo Broad, Bopara and Patel are all a WIP and have shown their talent in the past. The point is, he was the only one of our lot who put in 50+ knock. You'll expect India to bette that and then some under normal circumstances, and with Yuvraj having turned into the ODI cross between Robocop and Termiantor, well...you're up a one hell of a creek with floaters the size of redwoods in to time and don't even bother asking about a paddle.

Who else do we have out in India that could be brought in prior to the next one dayer? Wright? Swan?

Thee ptb may fancy Prior in the roll of the explosive type when it comes to our openers but...i'd more likely put Pietersen there myself

someone needs to give birth to a new Mark Waugh

Too right! I grew up watching him and Steve Waugh hand out masterclasses, mind you I was never a fan of australia but I just loved watching you guys play. The world cup 10 yeas ago sticks in my mind. You guys were utterly dominant and then white washed pakistan in the final.

He also has one of the best catch records too right? ridiculously good at slip.

Yeah he does, got the most catches (of an outfielder) ever I think. Or at least it's the most of an Australian... Something like that. Him and Warne (especially Mark though) used to pull catches out of their arses!

The man was just the most stylish and classiest batsmen. He was an absolute joy to watch and made it look so damn easy, too bad he was a bit of a lazy bastard. I don't know which would be more arousing, watching him hit a ton or watching some porn...

Steve, on the other hand was the polar opposite, the dedicated workhorse of a player.

We miss them. (Mark especially)

Bopara did well opening i thought, Sha put in another solid performance but 240 doens't really put fear into the opposition does it.

And for Panesar not to even be in the ODI squad at all, well the selectors mgiht be wondering at that decision right now.

anyone watching? worth getting out of my warm cosy bed to watch?

Such is my interest in cricket at this time I never even realised there was a game on today.

Watching India v England used to be one of my favourite pastimes.

Why not? It's pretty good to watch, atleast from our side. I'm enjoying seeing all these new comers come into the side.

Heh.

17 overs later, they made the match a 22 over one.

Absolute carnage. Ended on 166. And the par score according to DL method is 197 because we had a shitload of wickets in hand.

England are fecked.

Looked to be heading for a thrilling finish when Shah and Flintoff were at the crease, losing those two in quick succession pretty much destroyed England's hopes.

Left themselves too much to do after a shocking first 6 overs, not making the most of the early powerplays.

Thought this interview might interest people :: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/7746225.stm

It features Flintoff speaking of the Englan'd players' need to play in the IPL if they are to perform better in the one dayers.

Not sure onthe exact timing of this but later on yesterday an interview with Nasser Hussain also stole some headlines. He held no punches as he lamented England's current state and told the players to focus less on money and the glamour of the IPL and more on the basics. If they could only do the latter, the former would soon enough attend to itself he stated.

Bullshit. They barely made it to the Super Sixes.
