He's a decent opener really, nothing more, he likes to play his shots and I've seen some good ones from him but can be a little aggressive because he doesn't know when to stop and ends up getting out. The openers position is a bit hard to master though in that sense but he's still fairly young so hopefully he can keep learning and gain that invaluable experience. Pak don't really have any top class openers at the moment but he is by far the best we have - still no Saeed Anwar though - and why do they keep rotating the 2nd opener's position - they're getting as bad as Rafa!

The last one day match is tomorrow - a little meaningless mind but hopefully we see most of the first team play.

A crucial blow to PAK as well as Asif has been ruled out for the test series due to his shoulder injury.

thanks for the info man...btw what has happend to that imran nazir... i remember when he burst onto the scene..i used to think hes goin to be something special... the tale with new gen pakistani batsmen is same as that of indian pace bowlers their first season is their best..frm then on its all down hill

Played the last one day match today - a few players rested from both sides - Pak won.

Shoaib Malik produced a fine all-round display to inspire his side to a 31-run win as Pakistan salvaged some pride from their 3-2 series defeat in India.

Malik fired 89 off just 82 balls as he and Mohammad Yousuf shared a record fourth-wicket stand against India of 168 in helping Pakistan to 306-6.

Still first one day series lost there in a while. I don't mind as much because I can see this team is maturing and is on the verge of being a decent team again, it just needs a few tweaks.

Credit to Yousuf though, he's great. Was gutted when I heard he was off to the rebel Indian league meaning he might not play for us again but he decided against it.

Well done India.

Anyway on to the Test-series - starts on Thursday.

Possibly the worst pakistani side I've seen come to India in a long long time.Malik's captaincy is terrible, there's actually no other word for it.No innovation, no thinking, at most times it seems like he has no clue what he's doing out there.

Don't judge your side based on your performances against India, ffs...I thought enough teams had learnt that that was the wrong way to go.Coming off the back of a home series loss to SA, I would've thought Pakistan would be a bit more charged up and raring to go....hardly the case.A few batsmen firing here and there, no consistency from the bowlers, fifty thousand feckin extras, chopping and changing every match, misreading the pitch, the conditions....the sort of problems you'd expect a low rung team to have.

India had 4 openers playing in their team...no, five.Openers as middle order batsmen...There's some good batsmen waiting in the wings who must be wondering what they have to do to get back in.Raina, Tiwary all geting runs but they don't seem to be getting a look in.

The team are inconsistent as ever but they were worse against SA especially in the tests - I think we only came out of it having 1 or 2 days where we were on top in the test-matches. Probably believing their own hype of the twenty20 as they played really well there together as a team.

The captain isn't that bad - at least he is actually performing as a cricketer whilst being the captain. Still he is young and there just isn't any proper captain material in the team like before, especially as Younus rejected it. The board want the youth to emerge in the squad which is why you see Malik as captain, and Butt / Asif being handed vice-captain roles at times.

I don't expect Pak to win the test matches unless India perform badly. Still I don't think it is as bad as you say - I have a lot more hope in them than this time last year. Hopefully, our bowling attack comes to the fore as their is plenty of potential in there with Shoaib, Asif, Gul, Sami and a few others. Okay they may not be the best individually but when they work in tandem with each other it is a decent attack.

The batting has been poor for some time and we have relied on our trio of Younus, Yousuf, and Inzy to bail us out over the last year or two. I don't even want to talk about the openers and the rotation system that has been in place there for the last 3 years.

Oh and we always give 50 thousand feckin extras...

Malik's not a captain. You need to find someone else.

I know he's nowhere near captain material especially when you look back through our recent captains. Everybody including the board knows that much - there was a lot of debate as to who should get the captains job when Inzy finally went.

Still he had a good Twenty20 and he has come to the fore with his batting once taking the captains role so it isn't like he is a non-performing captain like many others are.

Don't forget that our vice-captain to Inzy (Younus) was offered it but rejected it due to issues he felt strongly about and they opted not to give it an old head as they wanted the youth to grow up together and form a decent team.

Throw a name into the ring that you think could do the captains job?
