he's only 18..imagine him in 3 or 4 years?? Keano won't play forever and is Butt good enough at the highest level..

plus will Becks and Veron be here next year??

van der Vaart is not a Keano though, he's a Scholesy. He has some defensive qualities (like Scholesy) but his main qualities are attacking ones.

I agree that he's a very good prospect but at the moment there are bigger worries for us (defence/another attacker) so we can delay the signing of a midfielder for a good few years IMO.

Also, I wouldn't want us to sign another midfielder with the likes of Richardson, Fletch and Mads coming through, give youth a chance I say.

My long term plan would be to buy 2-3 defenders this year just to stabalize the defence and then do it the Real Madrid way and buy a world-beater or two every year, as well as the odd young bargain that is avaiable for the right price.

Oh and btw I feel Lucio would do well in England problem is IMO he's too adventurous for a CB, the thought of having him and Fab in the same back-line gives me the jitters...

I like the sound of Mexes and Hofland comming in the summer !!!!

but 30mil for this ...
cisse_djibril.jpg

He just seems a bit of a ... TIT!

Is he related to Dennis (cross dresser) Rodman ???

Out: Keane, Veron, Barthez, RVN, Solskjaer, Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, Forlan.

No? Probably not, though who would have guessed Stam would go. My point is, you don't know what will happen tomorrow in football, so predicting 3 years ahead is nuts.

That pic does make him look like a wanker, but he looks alot different usually. He has black hair now with these squares shaved onto it. In that Auxerre kit he looks like some American 100m gold meddalist when he's running at speed. Thats just a bad pic!

Roy - isnt Tudor older than 23? I always thought he was about 25 about now. But I'll trust your knowledge on this one. I'd still prefer Mexes, he is younger and will grow up to be better than both Hofland and Tudor IMO. He leads that mean defence over in Auxerre with great assurance, as if he was 33 and pairing him with one of our experienced CBs should see him blossom in no time. Extending our French connection might just help that comminication problem.

Roy who is good enough to fill keano's shoes in the future once he retires?

i haven't come across anyone near his quality coming up, or am i wrong

mmm...interesting question that...

I think we need someone local in order to replace Keano but then again look at how well Vieira has done at Arsenal so I'm probably wrong.

I don't see a local lad who's too special though, Carrick's good but will never be Keano class, same goes for Prutton at Forest and apart from them I don't really see anyone too special.

I still have hopes for Fletcher to become Keano's long term successor but it all depends on the way he grows and develops. At the moment he's too frail to be Chadders' replacement, not to mention Keano's. He's still young though and hopefully he'll build himself up in the coming years.

Looking abroad I think you can find a number of good finds. Hugo Viana, 19-year-old Portuguese lad at Sporting Lisbon is superb and will be very special. Van Bommel at PSV is very good and will fit in well (wants to join us as well) but I don't think he'll ever be as good as Keano, though maybe I'm being a tad too harsh. Another very special talent IMO is Juan Andreu Melli at Real Betis, but he's only 17 so is too young. Superb talent though. Kim Kallstrom, Swedish prospect from Djugarden is very good as well but I feel maybe a bit too offensive for us. Another truly brilliant talent is Matteo Brighi of Juventus who is currently on loan, to Verona I think. Rate him very, very highly, I hear he might get a call-up to the Italian NT for the World Cup. Only 20 or so. Massimo Donati at AC Milan is not half bad as well but I don't think defensively he's as good as Keano. Hassan Yebda, huge defensive midfielder from Auxerre, is a very good talent as well but he's too young (17). Good prospect though.

Keano has a good few years still left in him though, so I believe that by the time he decides to leave/retire, we'll be able to find someone suitable.

Keano could be here for ever! He fancies SAF's job. How long he plays depends on whether or not he wants to drop into the back four later in his career. I wanted Vieira but I can't see it happening.

I argued in another thread to try to sign Viana for like the 2003-2004 season or something like that--or the 2004-2005 season. I mean, he has just turned 19, he has plenty of time. Classy player in every single way--I mean, this kid is bloody special.

Go watch some Sporting Matches, and you will find that Viana and Quaresma are top class young players. Viana is the DM, and is brilliant at everything--lost distance passing, he has a great first touch, good shooting, dribbling, movement off the ball, great vision and good tackling. He does it all--and all amazingly well, I am telling you this (he is even a very good crosser of the ball too).
