In light of the news today (Amad possibly out for the season, Mainoo, Collyer and Ugarte out (at least for Spurs)) how would you line us up?

Onana

De Ligt Maguire Yoro

Dorgu Mazraoui Bruno Dalot

Zirzkee Hojlund Garnacho

I’d drop the 343 for this game as a pairing of Bruno & Casemiro would get over run by Spurs midfield.

If we were to persist with the 3 at the back, I’d tweak to a 352. Stick Mazraoui in midfield to bolster the legs. Garnacho through the middle.

Onana
De Ligt - Maguire - Yoro
Casemiro
Dalot - Mazraoui - Bruno - Dorgu
Zirkzee - Garnacho

I haven’t seen enough of the youth to say if any of them deserve a shot.

Experience doesn't cut it if your legs have gone though. Wind the clock back a couple years for Casemiro and Eriksen and it would look a Premier League level line up but in their current state it isn't really.
well true, we all watched the Crystal Palace debacle last year but I'm hoping we'll be more compact against Spurs.

Chido Obi, Sékou Koné, Harry Amass, Jack Moorhouse, and Elyh Harrison all in the travelling squad.

I can see Koné getting some minutes as a sub. We're absolutely desperate now in central midfield and we can't afford to pick Case there too often as DM.

Could be two largely youth teams playing each other. Given Spurs have been playing a largely youth team for a while and are at home I think we will struggle today - although Spurs have been really dier so you never know. Two quality players to watch out for Son and Kulusevski, if Pedro Porro plays then that's a main week point and we should attack down their left.

Not looking good. But I will try to play Mazraoui in midfield. I put Dalot on the left with Dorgu on the right because we need pace on the right, while we already have pace on the left provided by Garnacho.

We couldn’t score when we had a fully fit squad. Chances of this system producing goals now is zero.
Only way we move forward is to play to strengths of players to try and scrape some points to keep us safe.
343 will relegate us.

This thread isn't intended just for Spurs, more a what are we going to do moving forward according to you.

Depends on how realistic we are being. If I was a manager I'd personally play 4-3-3 as it's the formation I'm most comfortable with and understand the most.

Would probably be my team right now.

That isn't Amorim's system obviously though so I imagine what will happen is that Zirkzee will drop to the 10 spot moving forward and Chido Obi will take the role of backup striker.

Either that or Eriksen takes Bruno's role in central midfield and Bruno moves back to 10 for the rest of the season. This would probably be my preference of the 2 because we would miss Amad's pressing less.

Onana, Dorgu, Yoro, Maguire, Mazraoui, Dalot, Fernandes, Kone, Garnacho, Eriksen, Zirkzee.

Torn on Eriksen. Either start him for an hour or bring him on for the last half hour. I would also have taken Kamason as part of the travelling squad too.

It seems like it's one of those "safe" choices that a manager would make. However, it's anything but. They simply can't play together. Far too lacking in terms of mobility/physicality.

We will have to see what he does. I'd be interested if @Sly knows how Amorim usually deals with injury crisis if he ever faced one at Sporting.

Does he move players out of position or promote youth?

It's a difficult balance. I think you could perhaps get away with playing one of Casemiro or Eriksen, but not both. Despite rating one or two of them highly, I don't think the youngsters are viewed as being ready by Amorim. So there's an uncomfortable compromise of the 'over the hill' and the 'under-cooked'.

Jack Moorhouse could definitely come in to midfield alongside Bruno and Eriksen, likewise Haven can play DM, Dan Gore is a possibility, Kone is promising but probably a bit further off as is Mentato and Lacey, obvioulsy there is Chido and Biancheri too, we have a lot of talent going forward in the 9/10 positions and will have to use them, the deeper lying midfield role is more of a concern if Ugarte and Collyer are out for any length of time.... is it too early to throw some of the youngsters in, definitely but has to be better than fielding Casemiro and Eriksen together, we simply don't have the numbers..... maybe Bayindir goes in goal and Onana plays DM

We need legs and Kone provides that. Unlike Gore and Seven Heavens he's a natural DM. He also played both in the FIFA u17 and the African nation U17 which means that he's hardly an inexperience player eitther. I'd say play him there and then surround him with experience (Casemiro, Bruno, De Ligt, Maguire etc). He can be our Cleverley at this point ie the donkey who does the leg work that Scholes and Carrick couldn't do anymore.

SAF won the EPL title with two ancient CM because he understood balance ie a player must contribute on X and if he can't provide Y then someone must provide it on his behalf. Amorim must learn that very quickly to succeed as there's no 400m war chest waiting in the horizon

This is not tough as we have like 10 fit players available.

Onana
Maz Maguire Yoro
Dorgu Casemiro Bruno Dalot
Zirkzee Garnacho

I am more worried about how we'd line-up once we have more than one games in a week with Europa starting from March onward. Our attack is already threadbare and we have only three attacking players available. If Bruno is moved back to the #10 position then we do not have a central midfielder to pair with Ugarte unless Amo suddenly decides to pair Ugarte and Case after putting Case in the doghouse since the Newcastle game.

I hoped that we'd go for Europa this season with the league looking like a hopeless case, but barring a miracle that looks like a distant dream now. I think any half decent Italian or Spanish team will take us out.

Maybe it'll bode for next season as without any European games (&money) and reduced sponsorship money he will have plenty of time to train the team and blood in the youngsters. Maybe it is the jolt that this club needs. Hope springs eternal!
