I'm calling it: DDG is the best we've ever had

That save towards the end of the first half was world-class, We should be grateful for having him at our club.

I've felt he's the best we've ever had for over two years. He's incredible. I'm watching at work on my (extended) lunch break and I just explained him to a co-worker who doesn't know footy that's he's basically the LeBron of goalies. He's scary good.

Let's just agree that selling him to Real Madrid, whatever money they might pay or players we might get in part-exchange would be stupid, if there is any kind of chance to get him to sign a new contract. Keeping him as long as we can if he doesn't want to sign a new deal should be the obvious thing to do. Why sell the best goalkeeper in the world? Makes no sense at all.

It won't be stupid if we can use him to improve our outfield.

Better reactions than Yashin and Dasayev! Just outrageous.

I think the value of whatever midfielder we get a old be negated by the fact that whoever the new keeper is, he wouldn't be as good as DDG.

Didn't think I'd ever place anyone higher than big Pete, but De Gea is right up there. It's just a shame that De Gea doesn't have a great team in front of him like Scheimechel had

Think I’d still have VDS in a top dominant team for his superb distribution, but DDG is the best shot stopper I’ve seen. We’d be so much worse off without him this season. Still maintain that Romero’s average performance was better last season though, which seems mind boggling now.

its not even fair having him in goal

superhuman and in relative terms it really is like having a Messi-standard player in the side

DDG is twice the player VDS was. I loved Edwin as well but De Gea is one of the best keepers the game has seen. He’s won us so many games.

Hope stays his entire career as we could easily be down a goal or two today without his quality.

If we get a full back and a striker/midfielder that can get the outfield playing really well then I would be happy with just a decent goalie. Having the best GK in the world without a good outfield wont win us anything.

Yeah, better than Schmeichel, however incredible it may sound.

We are a huge club. We should have huge ambitions. A major club with serious ambition would hold on to the best goal keeper in the world as long as possible and find other ways to improve the rest of the side. Our midfield can be improved without signing Kroos or whomever from Madrid. And we are free to try to prize Kroos away in a separate deal. It would only be a sweetener on a shit deal IMV.

Always like those, but I am not gonna go all time, I will limit it to the past 20/25 years. Mine would be Schmeichel, Buffon, Kahn, Neuer and Van der Sar. Never rated Casillas all that much.
How can you NOT rate Casillas?

Surely needs to be part of the Avengers!

Surely we can buy a midfielder and the right winger we need without selling one of our few world class players. We aren't arsenal

Yeah but I said "if" so if the only way to get top outfield players is to sell De Gea, we should. (and if he is set on leaving.. we might as well milk him for as much as we can)

He gets called upon far more than you would expect though, which only serves to highlight his shot stopping ability. If he played behind Evra - Vidic - Ferdinand - RB, the value of his shot stopping would decrease slightly.

De Gea this season is one save short of double the amount of Ederson. That’s crazy for a keeper in the meanest defence in the league.

That's where we disagree. The hypothetical your present isn't real. There are other top outfield players in the world of football. There always will be. There will never be a scenario where we need only specific players playing at Real Madrid.

Yes, DDG is the best we've ever had.
10 rating performance tonight against Sevilla.

Not rating is a bit harsh now that I think about it. But I suppose I rate him lower than the others for the same reason I have reservations about De Gea. I think they're a bit too timid in dominating their area. I think the best goalkeepers like Schmeichel, Van der Sar, Buffon and Neuer just ooze confidence in their box. You just feel like they own it whereas with Casillas, you felt he was more comfortable stopping shots. I do think he is as good as anyone when it comes to that, just like it is with De Gea currently but I just think it doesn't inspire the same confidence defensively as more dominant goalies. Don't get me wrong I am just talking here about the difference between a 8, 9 and 10/10 so it's not like I think he is average or anything like that.

I have waited a long time to post in this thread. However I now concur he’s the best we’ve ever had and should do everything to keep him.

In terms of agility, reaction time and all round instinct, there isn't a keeper in the game today whom can rival him. The guy consistently performs Incredible feats that defy logic, the likes of which only the true greats of the game are capable of producing.

Not only is he the best we have ever had, but he is fast becoming one of the games greatest keepers of all time.

Without sounding like I'm feeling sorry for myself/us, I am not sure why he sticks around sometimes.

Yes we are a huge club, but we don't really show it on the field do we?

I hope he stays around for many more years, but I could never begrudge him for leaving should he want to.

If De Gea is leaving I just don't think it's a good idea to force him to stay. Again that's an IF. Even though he is the best in the world I don't think losing a goalkeeper is as bad as losing an outfield payer that is the best in their position. Still a big loss but if we had the worlds best midfielder and were losing him I would be more gutted.

Hard to disagree. Especially considering the teams he's played in here have been inferior to the ones schmeicel and van der sar played in. Stepney was before my time, can't really make a comparison there

Wouldnt blame him if he decides to leave.

A player of his calibre deserves better.

Why are people talking about us like we're a joke of a club? We're Man United! Any player who plays for us should feel very privileged.

When De Gea was going through a tough time we stuck by him. It goes two ways. If he doesn't want to be here, or any other player, for that matter, then they can go.

We've had world class players who have left our club before and we've moved on. Simple as that!

Hmm. That's a big call. Hard to compare, tbf. On a par, for sure. I am thinking shot stopping, distribution... I remember a time when De Gea was a bid dodge under the high ball, but he sorted that. Truly world class alright, and both edge out VDS, in my very humble onion.

VDS was great but he underachieved at Juve and spending some of his prime years at Fulham. De Gea's underachievement have been wasting his prime being loyal to us.
