That save towards the end of the first half was world-class, We should be grateful for having him at our club.
Let's just agree that selling him to Real Madrid, whatever money they might pay or players we might get in part-exchange would be stupid, if there is any kind of chance to get him to sign a new contract. Keeping him as long as we can if he doesn't want to sign a new deal should be the obvious thing to do. Why sell the best goalkeeper in the world? Makes no sense at all.
It won't be stupid if we can use him to improve our outfield.
DDG is twice the player VDS was. I loved Edwin as well but De Gea is one of the best keepers the game has seen. He’s won us so many games.Think I’d still have VDS in a top dominant team for his superb distribution, but DDG is the best shot stopper I’ve seen. We’d be so much worse off without him this season. Still maintain that Romero’s average performance was better last season though, which seems mind boggling now.
I think the value of whatever midfielder we get a old be negated by the fact that whoever the new keeper is, he wouldn't be as good as DDG.

How can you NOT rate Casillas?Always like those, but I am not gonna go all time, I will limit it to the past 20/25 years. Mine would be Schmeichel, Buffon, Kahn, Neuer and Van der Sar. Never rated Casillas all that much.
If we get a full back and a striker/midfielder that can get the outfield playing really well then I would be happy with just a decent goalie. Having the best GK in the world without a good outfield wont win us anything.
its not even fair having him in goal
We are a huge club. We should have huge ambitions. A major club with serious ambition would hold on to the best goal keeper in the world as long as possible and find other ways to improve the rest of the side. Our midfield can be improved without signing Kroos or whomever from Madrid. And we are free to try to prize Kroos away in a separate deal. It would only be a sweetener on a shit deal IMV.

He gets called upon far more than you would expect though, which only serves to highlight his shot stopping ability. If he played behind Evra - Vidic - Ferdinand - RB, the value of his shot stopping would decrease slightly.DDG is twice the player VDS was. Yeah but I said "if" so if the only way to get top outfield players is to sell De Gea, we should. (and if he is set on leaving.. we might as well milk him for as much as we can)
Not rating is a bit harsh now that I think about it. But I suppose I rate him lower than the others for the same reason I have reservations about De Gea. I think they're a bit too timid in dominating their area. I think the best goalkeepers like Schmeichel, Van der Sar, Buffon and Neuer just ooze confidence in their box. You just feel like they own it whereas with Casillas, you felt he was more comfortable stopping shots. I do think he is as good as anyone when it comes to that, just like it is with De Gea currently but I just think it doesn't inspire the same confidence defensively as more dominant goalies. Don't get me wrong I am just talking here about the difference between a 8, 9 and 10/10 so it's not like I think he is average or anything like that. How can you NOT rate Casillas?
That's where we disagree. The hypothetical your present isn't real. There are other top outfield players in the world of football. There always will be. There will never be a scenario where we need only specific players playing at Real Madrid.
Too good for us. Let him go.

World class is even an understatement if that's possible. What other keepers make those saves? He's in a category of his own. That save towards the end of the first half was world-class, We should be grateful for having him at our club.
Hmm. That's a big call. Hard to compare, tbf. On a par, for sure. I am thinking shot stopping, distribution... I remember a time when De Gea was a bid dodge under the high ball, but he sorted that. Truly world class alright, and both edge out VDS, in my very humble onion.Yeah, better than Schmeichel, however incredible it may sound.
VDS was great but he underachieved at Juve and spending some of his prime years at Fulham. De Gea's underachievement have been wasting his prime being loyal to us.Think I’d still have VDS in a top dominant team for his superb distribution, but DDG is the best shot stopper I’ve seen.
