I'm a TV novice. Help please.

Also. What's the difference between Plasma, LCD and LED TVs?

Different technologies, each with their own positives and negatives, but nowadays the difference is almost an irrelevance.

In simple terms, plasma used to be used more for larger displays and LCD for smaller displays.

I personally can't see the benefit of LED tv's. Yes they are only roughly 10 cms thick, but when wall mounted its irrelevant and really isn't worth the extra cost. I think im also right in saying the picture quality isn't as good either. Its a relatively new technology, and if i was you i would ignore them.

Forget 3D.

Do you want to watch the TV on it, nothing more? TV is recorded in Europe at 30fps and film at 24fps, so that millisecond and refresh rate bollocks, is well, just that. No TV company currently broadcast in FULL-HD, so unless you are planning to use Blu-ray, 720p will be fine.

As always, the most important question is - what do you want to do with this TV?

2 of our commercial channels broadcast HD in 1080. Which is nice.

Ok throwing my hat into the ring here.

need a TV that's 1080p that's good enough for PS3 and Blu-Ray with Freesat and can be no bigger than 38", so probably need a viewing screen of about 36" ?

Any Ideas ?

Depends entirely on your budget but the one i've posted fits your criteria.

Panasonic g10 and G15 spring immediately to mind for the original poster.

btw check johnlewis.com

they're relatively inexpensive and do an excellent free 5 year warranty.

Bump it up to 42. Do Sony make 42s? Maybe not! Do not waste your money on 1080p unless it's at least 42, preferably 46. Depends how far away you are from it.

Do you have any 1080p content to put on it? Are you planning on providing this TV with 1080p content? If not, why the hell do you want a 1080p TV?

PS3 down the road?

Google Maps says 40 miles. Now what. Please reply quickly as it is quite cold here.

I went for a Samsung. Lovely thing. Its not imperative to get 1080, 720 is good enough. Depends what you want it for I guess and how long you want to have it for. 50mz is also good enough. Check out what you want, then nip onto ebuyer site and see if they have it (though they only usually do a 1 year warranty) cos it will be cheaper
