Depending how good he played there. Plenty of players played "out of position" and did well(Seeler as RW, Rijkaard as CB, Bossis regularly plays all over the defence)in drafts. Giggs would be hacked down no doubt but thats only because he was nowhere near good enough to play at this level. Did okay for United but you need more then that to play here.

I'd say depends on the level shown during the timeframe. There are multiple players that excelled at different positions and the impact of whether they are put would be minimal I'd say.

For example Gullit played as a CF/ SS at his peak at Milan, but if you play him as a RW doesn't really have much effect on how he would be rated. Same for Nedved for example.

As others said though if you start with Giggs at CM most likely he'd be put down.
