If we signed a 5th player...

I thought we were discussing if Valencia is the best RB in the league and if we need another RB.
Oh now i remember. Bellerin is pretty good. I will still have Valencia over him as he is much better defensively. bellerin still plays like a winger at RB for me. But fair enough if you dont agree. Its a very debatable topic

in an ideal scenario, we would move on Rojo, Jones, Fellaini (unfortunately Schweini) and Rooney. Bring in an experienced centre back and a right winger. Williams is unfortunately off to Everton but he would have been perfect really, not too much money and a very underrated player.

My muppet 11

----------------------De Gea-----------------
Valencia-------Smalling-----Bailly------Shaw

-----------Carrick------Pogba-------
-----------------Mhiki--------------------

B- Team

--------------Schneiderlin------Herrera
--------------Mata---------------------
Lingard----------------------Depay
----------------Rashford-------

Valencia is really growing into a very capable right back after serving his apprenticeship in that position over last few years. He has strength, stamina, and pace in abundance.

My vanity signing would be Mahrez. I'd love United playing with 2 specialist wide players again.

Seamus Coleman. an on form Ivanovic off top of my head
Ivanovic is done as a RB. He might still reinvent himself in a back three but being able to run up and down the field doesn't work for him anymore. He was never really fast but now he even lacks the strength and stamina that he used to rely to heavily upon.

Coleman is good, probably better than Valencia when he's on form. Didn't have a great season like the majority of Everton players. I agree that Valencia is not the best RB in the league, but I will argue that he's one of the best which means we are well covered for the RB spot at least this season.

I like valencia but best right back in the league? Thats a little biased. Walker, Coleman at least are better and i'm sure given a little longer i could add to that list. Add to that Valencia's injury record which over the last couple of seasons hasnt been great.

I still think we're a center back, center mid, and attacker short of what we need.

I think at center back we have good starters but could use a reliable backup as Jones and Rojo aren't reliable at all.

At center mid, we could really use another starter - who knows if Schniederlin and Herrera can turn it around under Jose, Carrick is too old to start regularly, same for Schweinsteiger plus he seems to already be out the door, and Fellaini just isn't good enough.

In attack we're covered for strikers but could definitely use another winger - especially if Mkhi is going to play centrally at all. We've basically just got Lingard, Martial, and Mkhi who are good enough. I don't have any confidence in Young, Valencia, Memphis or Adnan so we could use another.

I'm surprised by your lack of confidence in Young and Valencia.

Young has been a firebrand almost every time he's been given a chance to play under Van Gaal. Positive and attacking.

Valencia, well Valencia is in the same category as Rooney. They are just hated by so many posters.

Personally I'd categorize Valencia as a right back at this point and I'm fine going in to the season with him as our starting right back. Young has done well under the last two managers as well but I just don't think he's quite good enough if we had to rely on him for any real length of time.

I never saw the Monaco v Arsenal matches in the CL so I haven't seen Fabinho play as a CDM, but I have seen him play at RB, and he does look good. I'd like us to get him next, as i've heard from a lot of people that he was very good as a CDM, even from Arsenal fans. His ability to more than cover RB will be very useful if we do sell Darmian, plus Valencia is getting on a bit and Fabinho is still young. He's got time and potential on his side too. I'd gladly have him.

offtopic but '15 goals a good return for Wayne Rooney'.

15 goals

seriously? for the highest paid player in the premierleague.

From what I hear Fabinho is a decent player that can play 2 positions we need (RB and DM) he sounds ideal.

RB Seamus Coleman to allow Valencia to play RW.

We have enough cover at CB.

You are joking right?

No, not sure why you would think that. The opposition LB would need some engine to cope with Coleman and Valencia coming at them all day (or 90 minutes). Plus I think Valencia has always been more of a winger - look at his assist for Zlatan's goal in the Community Shield to note what he can do in a more forward position.

I think another defender is vital, if we're to compete for the title. Looks like Rojo, Jones, Blackett, and Darmian could all go, which would leave us needing reinforcements. Another world class defender and I'd be confident of a very good season.

As Mourinho said we can now take ourfoot off the gas and relax a bit. There're always unexpected twists in August where a player becomes avaliable and we only have to wait. Sort of like when Özil was offered to us under Moyes, if someone like him becomes avaliable then we might buy another player but for now let's just work with what we have.

I can't see us getting another player until January now tbh. Even if we sell the likes of Young and Januzaj we probably have enough depth in Mourinho's eyes. If we sold Darmian, we might need to get a backup rb. Outside of that, I can't really see any other investment. I'm convinced that Jose told Rojo he wanted to sell him but he just outright refused to entertain the idea so we've decided to keep him as a backup. Perhaps Jose thinks it's better to have him there as an option for both cb and lb in case of a bad injury crisis. I could imagine Young being sold because he's one of those players who just seems to fall outside our 2nd best 11 even and he is on a very high wage. If any club are prepared to sign him I'd be surprised if we refused.

If we are going to play with Martial, Zlatan, Mkhitaryan, Rooney and Pogba, we will need a good and strong CDM. We just have Carrick who is 35. So Matic could be a good option.

Deadline day perhaps after Jose sees what shape we're in after two matches.

Fabinho may be a good option but would he stunt TFM development? Other than that I'd like an experienced central defender but that's probably another big spend to get the right sort of player.

If I was being really greedy, I'd like a right winger / right forward so that we could drop Wayne and play Mkhitaryan with more flexibility.

I'm happy to wait until next summer's bonanza.

Personally, I think we've added a fair amount of quality to Te squad now, I'd like to see us develop some younger talent to supplement it, add some of the 'identity' back and all that.

If possible, would like a young winger like Ounas or something, and I think over the next year or two, adding some English talent to the squad. I just look at the likes of Bayern and Barca, and even our own successful blueprint. There's definitely value in home nation players where possible without compromising on quality.

Smalling, Blind, Bailly, Jones, Rojo, Tuanzebe
We have plenty.

Wouldn't mind another RB who is good going both ways.

Two of them are totally unreliable and two of them haven't played a single minute in the EPL yet. Ideally we'd move Rojo and/or Jones on and replace them.

I must say, despite our great signings I really do envy Dortmund. They've got some of the best youngsters around now in Mor, Dembele, Pulisic and Weigl. I may have missed out a few but those seem to stand out. This summer would be greatly topped off by these types of signings. Perhaps we need to up our scouting game.

Thinking about it for a bit I don't think we are in desperate need for a player in any position at the current squad after the Pogba signing. If you think about every position we already have someone capable. If we had to sign another 5th player I would think someone as a quality central defender to rotate with Smalling and Bailly or just in case one of them gets injured.

I actually wouldn't mind us going for Matuidi. He's the kind of player we need next to Pogba, none of our other midfielders really fit the bill, unless we are going to play with 3 midfielders.

I'd really like a solid and experienced CB or DM. We could do with a RW, so Mkhitaryan could play central, or a RB, but I'd say that having a Matic in behind Pogba, or a Bonucci (no chance of course) in the centre of defence would give us a very strong core indeed. As things stand, I struggle to see who will play alongside Pogba in MF and not stink things up besides the ageing Carrick.

Edit: I do think we're done in the transfer market now though.

Double edit: I also didn't count Schweinsteiger before. I actually think he could play alongside Pogba if he wasn't being forced out.

I'd agree with this, we don't need an RB (or CB). We probably need a DM but there are few good ones out there and I hope TFM can be molded into one, and Blind may be capable as well. I'd love getting Mahrez or a young right winger from an exotic league.
