I think it will be bye-bye Micky, probably from having been quoted once too many times in the papers of not wanting to play as LB. :(

Who's Micky? Silvestre?

Its fairly obvious to me he's on his way out, particularly regarding no new contract.

When is his contract up?

I do think he improved alot in the second half of last season, I'd like to see him stay.

If he did go how much do people think he is worth ???

At the end of this season, I think and most unusually for a 1st teamer, no indications of any contract talks being initiated by either party.

What if we sign Escude, Sorin, Bobby Carlos, and Lizerazu ? Will it still be bye bye Mickey ? Or is it possible that we're just signing Escude as Mickey's back up. A more probable scenario wouldn't you say. ;)

I wouldn't, considering we're after two left backs and haven't offered our existing left back a new contract.

With Irwin gone, we need more back up at left back, hence Escude. I don't beleive that he is a replacement for Silvestre, but hopefully he will add some competitiveness at left back.

I think that Silvestre is maturing nicely and can be our long term left back - if he really wants it. However, I do agree that he is skating on thin ice with these outbursts of his.

Don't you think it would be a really good idea to go for two left backs and take the best deal we can get?

who really knows how good is this Escude.... in EPL? I dun think Fergie would be taking such a risk although the signs are clear.... no contract offer ==> unwanted..

I guess it will be bye bye Bojan Djordjic if there is any truth to these rumors

The french tend to settle into the EPL without a problem so I wouldn't be worried about that, and he is one of the most promising U21 left backs. Valued at 4-5m. Sorin cost about 7m I think, which would come mostly from the money they owe us it would seem with a bit left over to go towards Escude. Hence the need to sell silvestre in order to get a striker too.

Can't see both Sorin and Escude really ... even if one of them only cost as cheap as 2mil ... that will be enough for SAF to do some trick and sign/loan a striker instead ... not double fullback

Sorin tends to do better as a left midfielder. He could be a backup for Giggs in case of injury or if he is played as a striker. With Sorin, it gives us the option of playing 5 at the back. He's a good header of the ball and scores a fair number of goals. Would be an excellent signing especially if we get him for free (Stam's cash)

More likely it will be bye bye Fortune.

It is all down to Mickey. If he is happy to play at LB, then his position is safe. Otherwise, Escude or Sorin might just replace him.

hmm.. looks like u disabled ur PM service. else i could mail u...

I really hope that Mickey will stay even if Escude &/or Sorin arrive. He's really improved since he joined United & was simply quite magnificent last season. Besides, he choosed United over the Scousers

I don't think Mickey's on his way out. Consider: he has a year left on his contract, this will be six-months at Christmas, he would therefore be elligable for a bosman. Surely, if he was on his way out, he'd have gone this summer, when we can certainly make a profit on him.

If we sign Escude, it would be in a backup role.

No problem there, mate. Now, we both know where we normally hang out. There are some familiar name here too like veron004, spinoza etc. Wonder if they are the same person in the Star Forum.

As for Mickey, hope he can sort out his contract soon. He is one of my favourite player

I still have my reserve for it, especially when considering the pre-season games he has started so far. If he is really going to leave very soon, don't you think Fergie should give the chance to other players instead?

I don't think we're going to sell him until we're confident of landing his replacement. Spurs were linked with Silvestre earlier in the summer, and if we reach an agreement over Sorin then I'd expect Mickey to be out of the door fairly quickly afterwards while he still has a year left, and not later in the season. People don't seem to realise that Mickey is not first choice in the French National Team, no other top club would want him and he won't go for anything like the money that Roberto Carlos would. The reason for this is because he's not that good. Hence trying to replace him last summer and this. He was not magnificent this season, in fact he was dropped for much of the start of the season, one of the few to pay the price for the poor start. He might make a good winger, but he's a lousy defender imo.

We should still have a Neville in the first team at any given time, and Barthez ofcourse.
And if needed we could always pick on RVN as he is so injury prone and unproven...

==================================================

Totally agree with that. How many top teams in Europe would he gt a place in? he's guaranteed nearly every game to make a mistake. Yes he has improved but he can still be a liability. I'd much rather see him play for Spurs or Liverpool (especially Pool, they deserve him) ;)

Question: Would you be bothered if we sold Micky?

I certainly would.

I'd be delighted, since it would mean Sorin had replaced him and we'd stop giving away so many easy goals.

We ain't going to sign both! We need cover at LB, to give Mickey competition, and that's what any new signing would do. As well as that, he provides cover at CB. :D

I've never seen Sorin play, so I can't really comment on that. But, I like what Mickey brings to the team. Surely he can't be the sole blame for giving away easy goals?

Agreed. Escude is pretty versatile, an ideal back-up player IMO.

Not the sole blame of course, but he was the one axed by Alex at the start of the season, while Barthez wasn't. If we got Lizarazu last summer Silvestre wouldn't have been here last season. If Rio was called Mr. 95% man then Silvestre is Mr. 60%

If we knew as much about Carroll then, as we do now (i.e. having seen more of him), do you think he would have dropped Barthez too though?

Sometimes think we are to hard on the players,Silver is OK in my book.

Also Laxio might have said to Utd wait years for your Stam money or have Sorin now?

So maybe Utd are thinking about it.
