If Real offered us Bale in a straight swap for De Gea would you take it ?

Assuming Bale wasn't a crock, then obviously yes. When in form, he's one of the best players in the world not named Messi or Ronaldo.

I shouldn't be but I am shocked the majority have said no.

Of course we should make that swap.

Not right now. Bale a year before yes would consider. But current state with injury problems won't want him here. Also a player already approaching in late 20s who depends heavily on pace is not a good idea.

Yes, but only if De Gea himself explicitly expressed a wish to go to Real Madrid. Like I wouldn't boot De Gea out the club to get Bale (or any player for that matter) in return. If DDG wants to stay, then I'd reject any sort of deal.

As Romero has proved to an extent a top class keeper can be replaced a bit easier than securing a world class match winning outfield player.

As an example where would Navas and Ter Stegen rank amongst current keepers in the world ? I think that alone proves that an outstanding world class attacker outdoes the importance of having one of the best keepers in the world in your team.

No. I would prefer De Gea to stay but if he was absolutely insistent on leaving, then what can you do? Bale would be the best swap deal we could get and obviously he would be a big hit at United.

I would rather keep De Gea than sign Bale though.

Labelling him as injury prone is harsh no? This is the first season in a while he's had a significant number of lay offs
The problem is, he is having the same muscle injuries - he missed 87 day due to 3 calf injuries in the last 2 seasons, plus 28 due to unspecified muscle injuries (via transfermarkt). It's not a coincidence.

edit: Mirror: The Welshman, still only 27, has suffered 17 separate injuries during his time in Madrid. Eight of those have been in his calf (two on his right, six on his left).

a fit Bale can win you a title, Gordon Banks wouldn't lead this United side to a title. World class wing forward is always more valuable than a world class keeper.

I would bite their hands off. De Gea is slightly overrated and I think replacing him wouldn't be that hard. Romero is food enough.

We're only guessing what Bale's prognosis might be, but if Real were willing to offer such a swap then we would know what their medics thought for sure.

Catch 22-ish, if they expect him to regain full fitness they won't offer him, but if they do offer him it will be because they don't.

Agree with this. Typical short-termism on show here.

He's been injured for past two seasons, this season he's totalled 1900 minutes, last season it was 2400.

It's not even the minutes themselves (for the record, Ibra played in 3850 minutes for us this season, despite having his ACL done on the April 20th), players who rely on their physical attributes to an extent to which Bale does usually need a couple of matches to get to their 100% sharpness, when it's a stop-start cycle for him due to his injuries, even in those minutes he played he probably hardly ever was 100% ready.

De Gea has the potential to be no 1 for another ten years. It's not even close imo.

If De Gea wanted to leave then yes, otherwise it should be Dave Stays.

If Bale could stay fit, sure. A world class attacker is more important than a world class goalkeeper.

I agree, he will be someone's no 1 for another ten years. Eventually he'll go to Madrid. No doubt about that. If he stays, I think his value rises at most another year or two max. Seeing what City paid for Ederson, we would be mad to take any less than 70m. We just better not be accepting a deal on deadline day when we can't bring in another keeper. Give them a DDG deadline of July 1. Pay up or shut up Madrid.

I'd take Bale in a heartbeat.

Nah no chance. But if de gea wants to leave we have no option. Plenty of strikers out there just not so many keepers.
Why did you edit his quote to say world class attacker again ?

The answer to this thread is yeah. It looks like he'd be leaving anyway, and there's no chance we'd get enough from the sale of De Gea to buy a player like Bale. Attackers cost so much more than keepers in general.

Bale's a match winner, I'd swap him for De Gea without a doubt. We'd save dozens of millions, and we'd buy someone like Lloris, Oblak, the next De Gea with the money and be in a much stronger position. I love Dave but Bale would be too good to miss out on.

Assuming Dave wants out, of course I would. It's Bale ffs. Not like such a trade would ever be offered by Real though.

Nope, injury hit season only played 26 games this season, and last season just played 38 games

If it's guaranteed that he won't leave a year or two later, I'd take De Gea.

Bale relies a lot on his speed and at some point when it starts to decline, he'll do the same. He'll still be a good player but I don't think he could do the transition to a different role as well as Messi (to playmaker) and Ronaldo (to pure goalscorer) could.

On other hand in Dave we have the best player in his position in the world that may offer us 10 more years of service at highest level.

So, even if we'd probably do better as a team with Bale and Romero or someone else replacing David right now, in the long run De Gea could give us a lot more.

If it were for this year I'd say yes... the keeper hardly had anything to do this season. However next season with Champions League and what I assume will be improved versions of City, Spurs, Liverpool added to the still potent attacking fronts of Chelsea and Arsenal... we might find we will sorely miss DDG.

However, if he's dead set on leaving and there's nothing we can do about it... then why not get something. Even if Bale is past it due to injuries he would make an effective bridge that would allow us to be competitive until Rashford and Martial fully develop, or we find out they aren't good enough and find replacements.

Really? Am i the only sane person in this thread? Who cares if De Gea wants to stay or not. You always trade a goalkeeper for a world class attacker. It's not like De Gea has shown any loyalty with his repeated attempts to jump ship to Madrid. It took a broken fax machine to keep him here FFS.

Not that Real would ever make such a trade with us, otherwise they'd be the laughingstock of the footballing world.

No more cast-offs. They only give them for a reason. Take the cash instead.
At a fickle club like Real Madrid they cast off world class talent all the time. Are you seriously suggesting Bale isn't good enough for us?

I don't think DDG has repeatedly tried to go to Madrid. It was only that summer and he didn't actually look that miffed when it didn't go through. But Bale is class, maybe bring giggsy back to help him manage the calf and hamstring injuries though!
