ICC World T20

Normally I'd congratulate the winning team, but basically Pakistan got battered by us, barely scraped past a SA team inferior to the one we beat(and would've probably beaten easier if not for the 120 run noose) and go through at our expense because we couldn't take Shane Watson's wicket..

unbelievable
We got knocked out because we got battered by Australia. Let it go

Hey man, you got through, thats good. You knocked out India, thats good. Enjoy it and and enjoy the united match. You don't necessarily have to come across as a bit of a cnut. You got some reactions as you wanted.

Not really. I am just laughing at bitter comments. I am the first one to admit that this pakistani team is the weakest we had in ages and rely a lot on luck. But if people make stupid comments, I am allowed to laugh at it. Besides, if pakistan lose against SL, you guys will give it back ten times worse. Just like when we lost to India.

Those comments started after you said "India suck it". Anyways I'm out, enjoy.

I don't consider t20s to be of any relevance. If I did, I'd follow India's t20 matches. Anyone with a brain can tell the juggling bit was said to make a point.

And, really, I'd happily have congratulated Pakistan on going through (particularly given I don't give the tournament relevance!) had you not opened with "suck it India". That was pretty small time.

Not really given that I would have said suck it eng/aus/wi,etc. Any team that we would beat closely to get to the next stage. Although I get your point, probably not a good idea with 6/7 indians being the only people commentating at that time.

Anyway, thats all part of supporting a team. I got plenty of flak when pakistan lost to india, and am sure that will continue if/when we lose again. You guys are being v. precious right now.

Oh well. I don't blame the Indian team. Just had one very bad day against Australia which was made much worse due to the rain. Could have reached the semis with a bit more luck or if we tried to go for damage control against the Aussies.

I wish T20 was around when klusener was at his best. That would've been glorious.

fecking hell that would have been scary. I remember the 1999 world cup my dad would always take a keen interest in the match when Lance used to take the crease

Yup 4 out 5 matches is a pretty decent record, even more surprisingly we manage to bowl out the opponents 4 times out of 5 times. Hard luck but still the main positive is Yuvi's back from injury to return like this. In last two matches he has been great.

That cover drive six over Botha

When did people start caring about T20s?

Why not ask that from BCCI?

What a bunch of sour grapes!

You people lap up the IPL. All those crowds in IPL matches: They come because they care.

But, when you lose, you say "who cares for the T20s?"

Ah, it seems the Lankans care. I'd hate to generalise on the basis of a single numpty though. I'm pretty sure the rest know what actual cricket is.

Have we gone back to the days of Tendulkar and Kumble with Virat and Ashwin playing the roles now?

Openers not giving starts, pedestrian bowling, terrible fielding, a captain whining about not getting rank turners at home, need for a super batsmen or a super bowler to perform in order for us to win, general laziness all around....yes Indian cricket is back. It was good while it lasted.

Days of test wins at home, getting trashed abroad and being terrible in International tournaments beckon.

We do care. Care for all forms of the game.

We do not whinge when we lose, or say we're not interested or dont care when we're dumped out. We do not blame the rain, and we do not browbeat umpires.

Even after the infamous Darrel Hair episode, we still played when he umpired subsequent series.

And oh. So you guys seem to know what actual cricket is. Good for you.

You dont judging from your activity in the thread, i dont care about it much either but thats true for Cricket in general to me. Still, there are obviously loads on here who care, better not simply diss the trophy now that we're out.

Don't care about the IPL but still find it entertaining to watch.
Can't say I'm too hurt about this exit either(For me, that 0-8 is something I'm still hurt about), but still would've liked us to win this WC.

The IPL is a horrible little tournament. Wish it didn't exist it be honest. It's hardly a sporting event for me.

Well, the BCCI hosts the tournament with so much fanfare and cities rejoicing when you win it. Like it or not, It's the biggest thing in cricket right now, except for a few series rivalries like Ind vs AUS or Ind vs Pak.

It maybe a non entity for you, but Anver's point is relevant. T20 is a big event for India for the cricket supporting publicand it doesn't become unimportant suddenly, definitely not to the extent of true fans knowing what real cricket is. They lap it up like anything.

If we had made it to the semi finals at Pak's expense, most of us lot will be taunting Pak/SA  (Although not with a suck it Pakis I hope)

Yes, but some sporting events are definitely less sporty than the rest. In the IPL for example, teams going out, new ones coming in, players playing for different teams. Its hard to for an association. Atleast for a guy like me who doesnt really have an association with a team per se. I watch it occasionally when i've nothing better to do wishing every game would go down to the last ball not giving a shit about who wins. Thats entertainment for me, not sports if you get what i mean.

I still can't get my head around this group of death. Its like putting Brazil, Argentina, Holland and Spain in one football super-8 group. While the other is England, Portugal, France and Germany.

Whats even more baffling is SA, Pak, India and Aus showed form by (easily) topping their earlier groups. And their reward? To face every other team that were on top form. Doh!

I do agree with you personally. I'm from Chennai but I do like Kolkata or Bangalore  I make no effort to watch games, I watch it if I have nothing better to do as well. I'd rather watch an Ashes test match as opposed to a T20 match between Hyderabad vs Pune :D

I was just mentioning that our individual indifference to T20 shouldn't make this any less irrelevant for India though, as both the masses and the cricket fans are crazy about T20.

:wenger:

The other group was hardly any easy. We had super overs in the other group and I don't think anybody would have wanted to face WI or SA. I hope Gayle rip the aussies to shreds, just for giggles :D

I am a Chennai fan. I have traveled to Chennai from Colombo quite a few times to see some IPL matches. The atmosphere is crazy. And I am yet to meet a cricket fan (or IPL fan) who says he does not care about T20.

mmmmmm

There are definitely a lot of cricket fans in India who are very anti-IPL. I think T20 is a bit like FA cup for me. Good if we win something in it, but I am not overly bothered if we don't. I definitely don't give two hoots about IPL even if I am not as against it as others. Completing that analogy-

Doing well in tests = league and ODI WC = CL

Well, it isn't because he's addressing individuals and not an entire population of a country.

I'm a fan of T20 cricket and I follow the domestic T20 tournament they have in England but I can't bring myself to watch the IPL.

The whole celebrity fanfare, the fecking 'tactical time-out' and the general celebration over a cricket match makes me feel I'm watching WWE and not cricket. Even the commentators are so entranced by every game, you'd think their life depended on the outcome. I also blame the IPL for the fewer number of Test matches and the declining interest national boards have in maintaining Test match cricket in the future.

All in all, I hate the IPL.

I'm not belittling any of the teams involved, just like I'm not saying England, Portugal, France and Germany aren't strong footballing nations.

But come on, which group would you rather be in? :wenger: Were India in the 'other' group they would have qualifed.

That's pretty much how I feel about the IPL.

I do watch all my local team's matches, though. By the end of the season, I'm sick of even that.

There's a CL T20 coming up. Not planning to watch a minute of it.

I'm no fan of T20...but it should replace 50 overs' cricket. I suspect it's already the cricketing cash cow.
