ICC T20 World Cup 2021

Yeah he retired a couple of years ago but I'm talking about the wider era. They haven't really moved on from the team he captained.
The problem India have had since Dhoni retired is that he casts such a large shadow over Indian cricket. Not only was he a great player, he was also a great captain. I think the current team respect Kohli as a cricketer but have some reservations about his captaincy and I think this sometimes spills over into their performances. It doesn't help that Kohli plays favorites as well often to the detriment of the team.

Dhoni is a great captain, but people overlook that he captained 7 world cups in T20 and won 1. It's not just a captaincy issue, it's also a player issue.

I agree. I think a lot of the players don't like playing for Kohli.

What?

India has dominated cricket over the last many years since Virat has captained the side. One tournament failure and the knives are out?

Its not just this tournament though. Kohli's India play a horrible/risk free brand of cricket despite the abundance of talent they have.

Fakhar struggling & now out. He’s not having a good tournament so far.

You are right. I could make a strong argument that the current Indian squad of players are the best Test team, the best ODI team and the best T20 team. They haven't won a World Cup tournament in any format under Kohli's captaincy.

Kohli is a very good test captain. I feel that format suits his leadership style as well. It's in the limited over games where he looks tactically inept. There is no coincidence that even as a captain in IPL, he has won zero trophies. I feel this squad under a better leader would do much better aka winning the ICC trophy.

He got to the final of Test cricket with a great record. My memory is not great so can I ask if he was the captain during the last 50 over world cup? Is this also not his first failure in the 20/20 format? A lottery of a format where even the best can lose against the mediocre by just having a few bad moments.

I agree with most of that although I think he is a good test captain almost by default since his risk averse nature fits well with that format of cricket.

Brilliant from Malik at the end. Nice to see him & Hafeez get runs which will give them confidence.

Very good win, keeps the momentum going.

No more Jason Roy for England in this tournament due to injury.

Sad news for him and the team but in Vince they have a fantastic replacement lined up.

Hopefully they can go on to win it and involve Roy in the celebrations!

Shame for England to have lost Stokes, Archer, Archer's replacement and now Roy.

Ashwin taking 6 wickets in this tournament (albeit against weaker opponents) makes you wonder what was Kolhi smoking by snubbing him for so long. For all the flaws I still believe any other captain would have loved to have him as their bowler in all the three formats. Lack of quality spinners may mean we may see ashwin more in LOI going forward. With the WC 2023 (50 overs) in India I wouldn't mind him and chahal being our primary spinners going forward.

A very low key end to the tournament kicks off today. My mate actually had to remind me it was on.

I've got a nagging feeling NZ will get a bit of revenge for the ODI WC and beat us. But England on paper should win.

Expect to see Wood get another go for Mills despite getting a bit of tap in the last game. Billings for Roy?

Bairstow will open.

Abu Dhabi has seen some higher scores in recent games so if it looks like another good pitch I think they might go with the extra bowler to replace Roy.

Death bowling is still the main concern, take early wickets and it's not such a problem but SA showed what can be done if that doesn't happen.

Yeah I have the same feeling as well. Death bowling is the main issue for England right now as only Jordan is a decent one and he still goes for near 10 runs an over at that stage.

Who're the favourites? England have had a few injuries haven't they. Do we think that will have swung it NZ's way?

Eng were still favourites going in imo. NZ also without Lockie as well.

Though NZ winning the toss perhaps makes it pretty even overall?
