Ahh two of the games had associates involved - and the WI bowling is virtually minnow standard. Bleak stuff.
So whoever wins the toss for NZ vs SA will be favourites for me. I still think NZ are a better team and am expecting a Aus vs NZ final.
SA have to be favourites. NZ dont handle high quality pace bowling that well and on top of that SA have the best player in the world in their team.

I really don't see the point of 50 over cricket anymore. That said it's a cash cow. And it's shocking that a bloke has scored 200+ but no one's particularly arsed about it. And rightfully so. Give me a Wahab Riaz, Starc or Boult hurling thunderbolts at batsmen over this baseball crap any time of the day.
I have to disagree Sults. Wahab, Starc and Boult have shown what top bowlers can do. McGrath was such a phenomenal bowler. Even if he'd have been smashed for more runs, he surely would be among the highest wicket takers. If you're anything less than a world class bowler, you got no chance.
Agreed. The Indian bowlers have been excellent too, which is rather surprising. Seven matches and 70 wickets. Shami in particular has been excellent.
I'm pleasantly surprised by India. In the past Asian teams would not have coped with these fast tracks having served their apprenticeships on slow dusty wickets.

Ah cricket, was introduced to it when I moved to England and since everyone was supporting Pakistan or India I decided to support Englan, turns out their Cricket team is even worse than their football one so now I just support whoever plays Pakistan and Sri Lanka mainly to make fun of them when they lose.

Mcgrath was too good, he is one of the all time best. His line length used to be, though not at Lee's pace, at quite fast pace. Maybe he would have gone for few more runs, maybe his average would have been somewhat worse, but slaughtered? No. Guys like Morne, Steyn, Boult, Starc don't get slaughtered often currently. Haha I was together with an Indian girl and most of my friends in England were of Pakistani origin so it's more fun. As for Sri Lanka, I have one particular friend who's overly proud of his National team and it's fun to make fun of him when they lose. I remember India beating Pakistan and my ex and me were watching it in Salford surrounded by Pakistanis, when India won she starts celebrating and the only reason I didn't die that day is due to the fact that I was friends with the very large security guard (also Pakistani) who told us to leave and personally escorted us out

It is ridiculous. In the last 15 overs with barely any fielders outside the circle even mishits were going to the fence.
The rule with two new balls and the modified field restrictions are simply unforgiving for a bowler.
As I've already said, I can see no justification for retaining powerplays. Just play the game.
Bat first score big, scores that weren't possible a few years back, huge bats, loads of fours and sixes, hardly anyone outside the circle, flat pitches, two new balls, individual scores of 200+, opponents collapsing under the pressure of the chase. This appeals to whom, exactly? Let's be honest there's not much interest in the game in England, bastardising the game further won't create more interest. We're watching stick cricket.

I was looking at Dhoni's captaincy records and he has played more than 60% of his ODI games against Australia and England. That is pathetic and shows how the three boards are manipulating the game.

That's 103 of the 174 against 3 teams; Australia, England and Sri Lanka.
70% of the SCG will be made up of Indian fans. Which is staggering considering the opponents are Australia (at home!). Similarly where were the Barmy Army? they were there in full force in 92, so why didn't they show interest this time around? I suspect ODI cricket is dying outside of Asia, (ironically Test cricket is suffering in Asia). So yeah a billion people in India, but international cricket just involving...well, India? Not only are we watching the death of the Windies but we're seeing the idiots in charge being incredibly myopic...by stopping the associates from playing at the next world cup. Criminal short termism. But heh dollas and all that.
It is getting a bit pointless now, it's just India and the money from it. Saturation levels really. I have stopped watching cricket a long time back, because it is just non stop cricket and the hype keeps on increasing despite average and downright poor performances
Let's face facts here. Cricket in test format was never going to become a global game to rival football. It's simply too long. Even if you have a bad football match, that's just 90 minute, where as even ODIs encompass a whole day. Watching a game just involves investing too much time. No wonder all this T20 stuff came up. All sports are driven by profit nowdays, 'promoters' will always give public what they want. It's not the type of evolution of sports one may want but what can you do.
Then once you have a situation where India is generating 70% of the revenue in cricket, there is simply no model possible to avoid domination by that nation. It is the same reason why all the best basketball players are plying their trade in US and NBA is the most popular basketball league in the world rather than any international competition of the same sport. We are moving towards a similar model. Indian audience will alone be enough to create all the revenue required so the need of spreading cricket to other nations would not even arise.
Eventually international cricket as we know, will cease to exist. You will have an expanded IPL style league in India where best foreign players who want earn mollah will be playing for majority of the time.
Football is the global game, cricket was never ever going to rival it or at the very least have a wider appeal. As for the IPL once the game dies out internationally, you'll be left with an IPL full of Indian cricketers.
Nah.. the core group of nation will always produce enough players to fill whatever foreign quota that may exist.
I agree with a lot of your posts in this thread but I think the disappearance of the Barmy Army has also to do with the terrible state of the English ODI teams through the years. Funny that you mention '92, as that was the last time England won a knock-out game in the World cup. That was 6 world cups and 24 years ago.
As for the general point, I mentioned somewhere earlier in the thread that we'll see evolution of cricket into various IPL style T20 leagues. With Australia, England and India being the Big 3, like football in Europe with Spain, England and Germany, and the rest being smaller leagues. Actually, it is not a bad thing of the associates either. T20 cricket requires much less skill and perserverance. Planting your foot and htting through the line on flat belters with bowlers reduced to bowling machines on smallish grounds might help expand the game.
I won't like it, may be you won't either but commerce will prevail.

Yup, saw one. Fair play to him.
Barmy Army has always given fantastic support. Plus, a chance for a piss up in Australia?! Whatever the cause, interest in limited over cricket has waned. Apparently, there were a lot less viewers (Sky) than expected too...despite the increase in coverage compared to yesteryear. The national football side have generally been also-rans too, but that's never stopped thousands of English fans following their team away from home - that goes for all sport.
Would I in a minority in this thread if I said I enjoy cricket WC more that it's football equivalent?
