ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

Pakistan are a terrible team tbh, I can understand teams lacking in batting & bowling but this team is awful in the field. They drop lots of catches, ground fielding is very poor and their running between the wickets is also average. Add to that the fact they bowl a ton of no balls (terrible umpires today let them get away with a few) and I just can't see them going too far in this tournament

Wahab and Irfan were brilliant today, well supported by the other seamers. The batsmen can feck off.

Will beat UAE, get hammered against SA and lose narrowly to Ireland.

Yep, that's what I'm expecting too.

This is just a poor side. The quicker the WC is over, the better. Fat whale, Younis, Afridi, wannabe Kohli & Misbah (more so for his age) all need to be done with. Surely there's some better youngsters out there.

England just need to start again with the entire limited overs set up, Australia were total shit only 2 years ago in the ICC champions trophy so it can change quickly.

4 years till a home world cup so firstly a coach with an actual track record in limited overs cricket needs to be appointed. Anyone who isn't fit for one day cricket or won't be around in 4 years needs to go so no more Broad, Anderson, Bell after this tournament. England need to pick a young side of players suited for the format and stick with it, no more picking no hopers like Harry Gurney. Gameplans need to be entirely scrapped, England try to make things far too pre-planned instead of playing the situation, there was no reason for the 10th-35th overs slow up yesterday on a good pitch, yes you want to keep wickets but its quite clear the team targets scores and are often happy to significantly slow the scoring rate as a result. Morgan needs to go as captain, far too negative, limited overs cricket is not a place for negative captaincy and yet instead of pushing for desperately needed wickets Morgan was happy to see Sri Lanka cruise along as long as they weren't getting too many boundaries.

And finally, but probably most importantly England need to only pick players who are a) comfortable scoring from the moment they come in, far too many of this side need to play themselves in so any wicket sends England to test match batting and b) comfortable scoring a run a ball, again far many of this side are happy to play out dot balls particulary in the middle overs. This is never more obvious than against any kind of spinner. The bowling is complete shit however and i'm not even sure who they can look too to rectify that. There's no particularly good bowlers in the one day game at the moment who are obvious candidates anyway.

Pakistan's batting is beyond horrible. If you can't score 250 against this rubbish Zimbabwe bowling, you can't bat to save their lives. Their bowlers are decent. Irfan is good for one spell but Wahab is good.

Shit world cup so far. Runs. Runs. Runs. Yawn. Yawn. Yawn. Soon ICC will stop teams from placing any fielders outside of the circle or whatever it's called. As @Sultan said, incredible short termism. I watched a programme about Michael Holding, it almost made me cry how the game has changed and with that the death of the greatest cricketing nation of all.

I feel sorry for Misbah being in charge of this lot.
I feel the opposite.

I feel Misbah is just too negative to bring out the natural talents the nation has always produced. Pakistan has always regarded cricket as an art and played cricket with a free spirit. The fun part is you never knew which team turned up on the day.

These days it's becoming just too predictable and boring, mirroring the captain.

The sad thing is that most of the proper cricket fans actually want to see good bat-ball contests and not run fests. Sadly the governing bodies don't see it the same way. And it's only going to get worse

Fans will simply get bored. That's not forgetting the possible death of a couple of traditional test playing nations...and the knock on effects.

He really is something else. Just an insane player.

Poor old Holder for the Windies would have been loving life after his first spell - 5 overs, 2 maidens, 1 wicket and conceding 9 runs...

Nek minnit - 10 overs, 2 maidens, 1 wicket for 104. just insane

I am not too sure that fans will get bored. There has been a concious push towards "Americanizing" the sport. What I am witnessing in India is that with increasing wages and more disposable incomes there are a lot of people who take going to matches as a 'Night Out', they do not care about a contest between the bat and the ball. All they care about is bouncing to fours and sixes, dancing to DJ's and watch cheerleaders gyrate to music.

You are right that we will witness the death of a few traditional test playing nation, or may be test cricket in general. Though that'll give way to more T20 leagues around the around. It suits everyone - big money spinner for cricket boards and the advertisers; provides livelihood and riches to a large number of players rather than a select few; the modern day spectator can come for 3 hours, drink his beer, dance, watch some fours and sixes and then go home. It's actually a win-win.

A few of us romantics will cry and bemoan about the death of cricket, but who cares. Commerce rules!

:lol::lol::lol::lol: unbelievable.

I still can't believe it... Going from potentially a really great spell to literally the most expensive of all time in WC history. Imagine what the poor sod was feeling after the first 5 overs... Then contrasting with his last 5 overs!

104 off 10 overs, yet still had 2 maidens!

Group B is shaping up nicely for 3rd and 4th spot. Ireland-Zimbabwe and Pakistan-Ireland will be very key fixtures for qualifying in group B. Zimbabwe with just 1 win in 4 and a game against India remaining, already have lesser chance than Pak, WI and Ireland. Ireland's NRR is currently the best of these lot. If Ireland beat Zimbabwe and Pakistan lose to South Africa, by the time Ireland-Pakistan meet, even 'just a win' might not do for Pakistan. They will probably have to beat Ireland by good margin. Or otherwise Pak will have to use UAE game to significantly improve current NRR. This not considering WI who are in between Ireland and Pak NRR wise but have a good opportunity to increase NRR vs UAE and on their day, they might surprise India too. I would love to see Ireland in top 4 somehow and preferably Pak going out at group stage. I do worry about Pak players' safety though if that happens.

In group A, top 3 is pretty much sure. England vs Bangladesh will virtually be knockout for last spot.

Wait till we play WW next TMH!

There's no way all of that is true.

One of the commentators or pundits on Sky mentioned he's done all of that when he made his 150. Surely they wouldn't have said it if it wasn't true.

There's no way all of that is true.

Its legit. Two of my best mates are Saffers and they absolutely swear by it... They were telling me how he was junior swim champ, could have has his choice as to become a pro at Golf, Tennis or Rugby and was apparently a great sprinter too. This was YEARS ago too when he was just coming in to the scene.

The bastard is just an exceptional talent... At everything, it seems.

He's clearly multitalented but that image is taking the piss. Captain of SA Junior Ruby team? Fastest boy in the country? No one is that talented. Champion tennis player and pro badminton player is the biggest giveaway - anyone who's played either sport will tell you they're incompatible. Have a look at the Wiki, it's more realistic about his achievements.

This website also repeats all the achievements and does mention both tennis and badminton and looks lot more credible.

A simple google search shows many credible websites referring those achievements too. If it had been a hoax, at least somewhere someone will point it out. Also, some deep search should confirm it or people here from SA can confirm. The best bit for me is, science project award amidst all this :)

Which credible websites? Everything online seems to be based on the same source - the dubious Midday article. Nothing official from any of the sporting boards. Seriously, think about it, you're saying he was a national level performer at Cricket, Rugby, Football, Swimming, Athletics, Hockey, Tennis and Badminton?!

I have given you cricket.au link and sky sports also mentions it. Obviously they didn't take it from mid-day? If you are so sure he didn't do all this, why don't you give us proof otherwise?

Yeah, Gibbs was just as multi-talented.

You are from South Africa, right? Is there any exaggeration or false info about AB's this unbelievable talent in so many games? I had searched before too to find if there is any info on it being hoax but couldn't find. Given it is AB, I find it all the more believable. He can do anything.

Ok fine, as inane as this argument is, let's go through each claim then:

  • He was shortlisted for South Africa's junior national hockey team - what does shortlist even mean? Everyone is on the shortlist if you play a sport at a decent level
  • He made it to the shortlist of South Africa's junior national football team - ditto.
  • He was captain of South Africa's junior national rugby team - Probably the most ridiculous claim; rugby is South Africa's biggest sport, yet I can't find anything on him captaining the side. I'm sure the Saffers on here would be able to confirm.
  • He holds six South African school swimming records - possible
  • He holds the record in the 100m dash in South Africa's junior athletics - extremely dubious and now this is beginning to look like a Chuck Norris profile
  • He was a member of South Africa's Junior Davis Cup team - nothing on ITF or any tennis player database
  • He was South Africa's U-19 national badminton champion - can't be bothered with this anymore
  • Has a golf handicap of scratch or zero, which means he is a player whose average score for a round of golf is par or better - probably the only truthful claim
We managed to get a Kaka to United story on to Skysports so it's really not that hard to fabricate stuff on the internet.

Yeah, I'm from the mother city, Cape Town.

I think most of those are exaggerated, but i'd be lying if i told u what exactly his achievements are/were.

Golf, tennis (until the age of 13) and a teen rugby contract to join as flyhalf provincial side (the bulls) seem to be the legit ones. He's also a decent amateur musician.

I'd think this is a little more legit.

This link also has his own comments on his tennis talent and liking during early years. Of course, he can't be actually representing multiple sports at national levels on regular basis. That would be impossible, not because of lack of talent but the efforts needed on any one sport. All those info do clearly point though that he was very good at many sports and could have been decent elsewhere too had he decided to focus there. Even if he was good enough to be squad player at national level while young, in sports which became secondary, it is still quite an achievement. I don't think that can be said of many sports players. Especially when a guy has talent not just at 2-3 sports but multiple sports.
