ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Feels like this will be an under par innings from England. Pitch looks a belter.

Nonsense, a number of fans including myself love ODIs. The WC is also a major tournament and we’ll continue to enjoy them as long as they are here.
Yea but that’s because we are sports nuts. If they threw in a 40 over format we’d watch that too. Objectively it just feels a bit irrelevant.

Ultimately whether it’ll continue being played will depend on profits. Stand-alone I think it makes money so they’ll play it. Replacing it with more t20 would probably be a net loss commercially.

I’m just more of a traditionalist, I enjoy the test and ODI formats, stuff I saw when growing up with the greats. I suppose I wouldn’t like it if any of those formats stopped.

Agreed, 50 over cricket (domestic as well) is my favourite format. It's a much more intriguing and nuanced contest than a 20 over slog fest, and it's more watchable than a full test match.

The problem isn't the format, it's simply that 20 over stuff packs stadiums because it's much easier to get to a game for a few hours, in an evening, than a full day. I used to love going to the ground to watch a 50 over game on a weekend, but I don't so much now is that most of the time many of the best players aren't involved. T20 is fun to attend matches because there's a few casual fans or non-cricket fans who come along - but I can't watch a regular T20 match on TV, it's boring as feck. If a fraction of the money and marketing was put into 50 over cricket, and the competitions were given some preference in the schedule, it'd fair much better. The powers that be used to insist T20 (and the 100) was a way of bringing new fans and kids into the game - if that were true, then they would aim to funnel those fans towards 50 over cricket. The fact they aren't shows it was all talk, and it's all about making a quick buck.

Seems more competitive than I thought it would be when wicket 4 went down.

The England bowling just hasn’t been good enough. Carse all over the shop. I thought Buttler could have got some more overs from Root or Livingstone.
Their attack is to similar. No variation. Is topley still injured?

He hasn’t been picked I think. They’ve just gone for pace. They thought Carse can bowl the Plunkett type bowlers but he’s had a poor game today. If one of the bowlers has a poor game, there is a lack of options. The lack of bowling options is a worry. They could have picked someone like Curran instead of Smith who can bat and bowl variations on these types of pitches.

Carse having a shocker and a huge drop from Jofra. Aussies should win from here. Would be a poor loss..

Yeah we should have had more, the middle order collapsed but the bowling should be a lot better. Buttler has also missed a trick by not getting more overs from Root and Livingstone earlier.

We are a left armer short. I'm very surprised Sam Curran doesn't get in this team.

I suppose all that not caring about losing to india should help Duckett and co not care about losing here as well.

I gave them a pass for the India tour as wanted to see us when it mattered more - this is a very poor result.

I'd be very shocked if we made the semi finals.

Inglis averages 23 before today and had a high score in ODIs of 65. He’s destroyed us here.
actually always liked him in the middle overs, probably not given a good enough rope.

max is just playing T20 now.

why england team is trying to act cool and detached on the field from last few games? part of mind games?

England need to drop salt and move buttler to open. No idea who replaces him though.

They also need to drop 1 of the 3 seamers for someone with a bit of variation.

Feeling sorry for Duckett . Great chase and well done Inglis. Aussies bowling attack will cost them. I suppose any team losing quality like Starc, Cummins & Hazlewood will suffer.

Great team batting effort from the Aussies - to have chased down 352 without Head or Smith troubling the scorers is very encouraging, given the weakened bowling we've got for this tournament.

They should have another all rounder like Curran but they don’t have that. The only other option is Overton who is also shite. The squad selection has been dreadful.

Don't think i like root at 4 either.

Don't know how to put this into words but when he got bogged down a bit there after reaching 50, he can't just get "out" because then you're 3 wickets down. Whereas at 3, in the same scenario you have that extra batter behind him.

England giving wickets away to Labuschagne also cost them. On top of that, Buttler failed to utilise Livingstone and Root a bit more which could have eaten up some overs. Overall it was poor all round.

I thought he was doing well but yeah he should be at 3. Hopefully revert to that at the next game. If England want to stick with this setup then they need to give Root and Livingstone more overs earlier on.
