Ibrahimovic

Strange that some of you feel that Falcao is good enough for us and insist he must be given more opportunities, even though the guy is getting worse with every match.
Yet Zlatan, who scored this goal yesterday is not good enough. None of our strikers are capable of even thinking about scoring a goal like that. Rooney/Falcao wouldve missed the header (they are shorter) and RVP wouldve brought the ball down then either attempted a volley or would attempted a 1 on 1 dribble with the GK.

I rate Ibrahimovic very highly - he is definitely a leader and right now we only have one leader - Rooney.
By comparison, in our treble winning year, we had many leaders.

Our plan B (ie. long ball), will suit him perfectly, due to his height, so Fellaini wouldnt be our only outlet.
With regards to controlling him - LVG is perfectly capable of controlling him. I think some people dont know LVGs history of dealing with players with the biggest egos.
The only issues I have
  1. age
  2. would he be content to play to play not as the No.1 striker (Rooney is our No.1)?
  3. cost

He's better than Rooney.

We're building a harmonious, hungry, hard-working squad of players with plenty to prove. Ibrahimovic is exactly the kind of signing we should, and will, avoid.

I agree that Ibra, might bring disharmony, but he is definitely hardworking and will not be scared to face the biggest teams, in the toughest games, and stand up and be counted.
There were some games where our strikers were hiding behind opposition defenders (perhaps they were scared to receive the ball) - Ibra would never do that.

I'd like us to sign him, but I dont think he is an LVG type player. I think LVG prefers drone type players rather than mavericks who think for themselves.

Would certainly be a exciting signing, if the manager wanted him would be all for it.

Anybody wanting Ibra is nuts. Way too late, when PSG got him it was already too late - what happened next was a miracle.

The guy basically entered his peak at the age of 30 for Milan and then continued it for soon 4 years. Having a go at him now is a bit naive.

I mean it is possible he continues his level but paying top bucks for him to certainly do so would be a bit off the top.

LvG already sold him once when Zlatan didn't listen to Koeman and then Koeman got pissed off and got LvG fired.

Agreed, it would be utter madness.

Would have loved to see him at the club. A terrific player, and a genuinely fascinating character with a big personality. Tailor made for us.

Unfortunately a bit too late at this point.

If we weren't in a transitional stage, then he'd be great.

Right now, when we're still rebuilding and trying to edge out a period of uncertainty, no.

Wouldn't mind at all if he did a Larsson and spent a few months on loan at United.

How many strikers in the world would improve us for next season ? we need to move away from 'building for the future', there will always be prospects but we need to plan for the short term, tomorrow may never come.

If Ibrahimovic came and played maybe 25-30 games (Champions League + top 4), then I can't see a negative, this is the one player that should have been playing for us years ago.
Zlatan swan song please.

We should have gone for him some years ago. He is still one of the best but so were RvP and Falcao not too long ago. Just a matter of time.

As much as I would loved to see him in a United shirt, that ship sailed a couple of years ago.

Just no. That would be even worse than Liverpool buying Balotelli. We are not a circus act. It woul be entertaining, but just for a short period of time. Wrong time and wrong coach for a player and ego like Ibra. Money and wages better spend elsewhere.

Why would PSG let him go? He's pretty much their icon. They need someone like him to flash 'Qatar Tourism' on their shirts, or else it doesn't have the same effect. He's probably the third most famous active footballer in the world.

It's the first time I'm putting my nose into this debate, but I'll give my opinion based on some stuff that was written here.

I'd be all for it if we didn't have to pay through the nose. (Geddit?) But he's nearly what, 34? Can't imagine he'd be too happy competing with Rooney, RvP, Wilson etc. He's too proud for that, he'd probably rather be the main man at an MLS side.

Considering Falcao's departure is a certainty while RVP's case is getting closer to an exit this summer, we will have 2 pairs of boots being open for strikers. If we play a 4-3-3, then we would need only one new pair of boots to be filled. If we are serious, Wilson is not quite reaching that level to play enough minutes right behind Rooney in the pecking order just yet. It's a shame that I'm saying that since I have great hopes for Wilson, but he needs to grow more muscle than anything at the moment.

TBH, I would first take a look at other younger and faster strikers in order to fill the voids. However should Ibrahimovic somehow knock at United's door with serious intent, his case would be a matter of whether or not he and LVG can bury the hatchet like grown men. It has been over 10 years since their spat at Ajax. Still, it could be very interesting if they put aside their differences.

I remember that documentary showing the first press conference following Cantona's signing where a reporter was asking Fergie how a Scotsman and a fiery Frenchman work together. As the saying says: the rest is history. It may only be me and a few others, but there's a chance LVG could get this thing working if he wants to take the risk.

Zlatan wrote in his book he wasn't "fond" of LVG to paraphrase...

Again, that was 10 years ago, Zlatan was a wilder horse, LVG was doing a job he only did once and probably hated (being a DOF). We had a similar debate about Rooney vs. Moyes before last season because of their past history, but nothing radical happened between the 2 men. I'm not saying we should go full speed into Ibra's case, but I wouldn't shut the door just yet.

Probably for a similar reason why Monaco let us have Falcao for one season. FFP is starting to kill those nouveau riche clubs.

Ibrahimovic on the question whether he likes LVG "No, because he belongs to the old school. The old general, he's the boss and everybody else are soldiers. I think you need to have some sense and feeling. A lot of the big stars had problems with him because of who he is. When you come to a team with 20 stars is that how you treat them then, like children? "

"We sat and ate food and we were forced to sit there until he said "Okay now you can eat". We weren't allowed to eat until he said so"

[Sorry for poor translation]

I agree there's a forward needed; I don't think Falcao is going to work. I also have doubts about Wilson making the very top grade. But the solution is not Zlatan. It's someone relatively young, who will still be scoring goals in four years time, who will grow into the team and the way of playing.

I Reckon he would have a cantona type impact for a season or 2 as long as the transfer price wasn't extortionate i would love him here for a short term boost while we get the rest of the squad in order.

If it means binning off RVP and getting ibra in then I'm all for it.

He would be a timebomb under van Gaal. He's the type of striker van Gaal likes (can score but also hold up the ball) but hasn't got the mentality to work under him.

Van Gaal is the boss, the team are all equal and have to listen to him. Nobody tells Zlatan what to do. Doubt he even wants to come here or if PSG want to get rid of him. He's too old anyways.

But if he comes and leaves us after a season, would we then win the CL the following season?

Neymar - his popularity is incredible.

He now has 12 league titles since 2001. Counting the revoked one from the Calciopoli. That is one less than Ryan Giggs achieved between 1990-2013.
