"Manchester United have been urged to launch a move for Paris Saint-Germain striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic when the transfer window reopens this summer.

Ibrahimovic has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford several times in his career, and could be tempted to leave PSG if the club fail to qualify for next season's Champions League.

Louis van Gaal is known to be in the market for a striker as he does not want to pursue a permanent deal for Radamel Falcao.

And former United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel believes Ibrahimovic would be a perfect fit for van Gaal's side as they prepare to mount a more sustained title bid next season."

Can't say I wouldn't mind seeing him for a season or two, if we could get him on the cheap. Would be magic!

I'd be all for it if we didn't have to pay through the nose. (Geddit?) But he's nearly what, 34? Can't imagine he'd be too happy competing with Rooney, RvP, Wilson etc. He's too proud for that, he'd probably rather be the main man at an MLS side.

No. He's excellent but we don't need another old striker on astronomic wages. We have enough of those.
We aren't in need of a flat out conventional striker but a dynamic forward adept at playing wide and scoring goals.

33 year old striker who's ego driven and would make a fecking mess out of our locker I imagine, no thanks.

If by cheap you mean free, then im all for it. He will be 34 a month into the season.

Pretty sure he called Van Gaal a "pompous arse" in his recent autobiography "I am Zlatan"

Another quote from Zlatan on LVG:

"He wanted to be a dictator, without a hint of a gleam in his eye."

He's still brilliant at 34. Would love to see him in United's colours and as a replacement for RvP next season

34 in October, great players but i'd only take him on a free and it'd still be a risk giving him a 3 years contract at that age.

You have no clue. He's more of a team player than you think. Zlatan is a winner and demands perfection from the other players in the team. He declined to be captain of PSG because he said he thought the captain should have been at the club for longer.

I'd love him at Utd. Thing is, it would mean 2 strikers or Rooney in midfield which is why it's probably a no, thanks, for me.

No. Despite poor UCL results EPL is still streets ahead of Ligue 1, he'd not have nearly the same impact. And he's a cnut

He is a narcissistic piece of shit. feck him and his ego. Dont want him anywhere near our club.

He'll be 34 this year and plays the same role as Rooney in a 4-3-3, this would be a colossal waste of money.

Wages aside, I don't think he will cost a colossal of money. I mean, we have been wasting paying wages on Falcao

Nope, great player, but we should be looking for a young striker, not one who is even older than all our already old strikers bar Wilson.

nope..Him and his ego would clash with van Gaal's even at the hint of these rumours. He's a good player but he doesn't fit with the whole team concept we have going on now.

He's on the list of players I always wanted at United. When people talk of United players, to me he is the embodiment of that. He's like Cantona in that regard, where he has that aura and arrogance about him and backs it up.

But I don't think I'd take him now. He's a still a great player, but I don't think he'd fit here or we'd have to go out of our way to accommodate him. We seem to have figured out a winning formula and I don't think we should be changing that, especially for a 34 year old. We should've signed him instead of Zlatan-lite in Berbatov.

Should've bought him when he was still in Italy, but we got RvP instead, who has worked out quite nicely so I can't really say I'm disappointed.

I think it could be a really good idea. You're looking at a player who will probably have 2 more years left at top level and has proved himself on every possible level. He's a natural winner and is willing to work his ass off to win the CL. It's very usual in the NHL (ice hockey) that teams trade some dinosaur to their team just to get that extra piece of leadership and will to win (if the player is without medals in his career). As someone already pointed out, Ibra is a really good team player. Yes, he will demand a lot of attention in a squad, and that's because he's a special player. It's nothing unusual and almost all stars like Messi, Rooney, Vieri behave the same way. It's the guys who don't deliver that I have a problem with.

Most of his problems are related to contracts. Ibra and the people around him have always tried to find creative ways to get out of a contract. The thing in France could be a way of saying goodbye again. I believe the Milan-PSG deal was worth around £24m, so today it couldn't be much more than £20m to bring him in. It's the wages that huge, but we are a big club and will always pay huge wages. Having 3-4 players among the 20 best paid in the world should be nothing out of the ordinary. As Falcao is leaving there should be plenty of room to take in a new star. RVP might question his future as well.

And PLEASE, footballers are not something you always have to invest in with a 10 years horizon. It's FINE to bring in a player for 2 years!! fecking hell, 2 years is a life time in football and I rather have someone with huge potential to win us stuff than invest in another Bellion, Hernandez, Nani, Anderson etc. Just for an example of how many players were with us and played games 2 years ago!!!!

Evra, Rio, Anderson, Giggs, Hernandez, Vidic, Welbeck, Fabio, Cleverley, Fletcher, Kagawa, Macheda, Buttner, Zaha, Powell, Bebe.

So things can change rather quick.

We're building a harmonious, hungry, hard-working squad of players with plenty to prove. Ibrahimovic is exactly the kind of signing we should, and will, avoid.

Still not convinced. He's a winner, but he's also a bit of a whiner.

He wouldn't pull a Cantona and push the team up a level. United has a fair few people walking the halls that know what it takes to win. There are a few strong EPL clubs that could really use that, but United isn't one of them.

The defense could probably use a leader. Smalling might step into that role in a couple of years, but for now Rooney and Carrick are sufficient leading the team at large.

34 is still 34. Class, no doubt, but a short timer with a mixed record.

Pass.

Strange that some of you feel that Falcao is good enough for us and insist he must be given more opportunities, even though the guy is getting worse with every match.
Yet Zlatan, who scored this goal yesterday is not good enough. None of our strikers are capable of even thinking about scoring a goal like that. Rooney/Falcao wouldve missed the header (they are shorter) and RVP wouldve brought the ball down then either attempted a volley or would attempted a 1 on 1 dribble with the GK.

I rate Ibrahimovic very highly - he is definitely a leader and right now we only have one leader - Rooney.
By comparison, in our treble winning year, we had many leaders.

Our plan B (ie. long ball), will suit him perfectly, due to his height, so Fellaini wouldnt be our only outlet.
With regards to controlling him - LVG is perfectly capable of controlling him. I think some people dont know LVGs history of dealing with players with the biggest egos.
The only issues I have
  1. age
  2. would he be content to play to play not as the No.1 striker (Rooney is our No.1)?
  3. cost
