I agree with you totally. It seems fashionable nowadays to give someone a passport and then he becomes part of the national team. That's disgraceful IMHO. A player can hail from any origins, but he should at least grow up and be raised in the country he is representing. So it's fine for Vieira and Zidane to play for France cause they were raised in France, speak French etc. But to expedite the citizenship of a Nigerian striker so that he can play for Poland just diminishes the dignity of the world cup. What next, the Saudi Arabia giving citizenship to 11 Nigerians for a rematch with Germany at the next world cup ? The world cup is not a tournament for clubs, so at the end of the least, the teams should nurture their own players.
