I miss Hip Hop like this

Cracking song alright!

Seen Shadow & Cut Chemist this time last year in Dublin - didnt dig it at all. They were using old 7ins for the whole gig, but it didnt work for me tbh!

Very disappointed :(

Yeah I've got a few mixtapes and albums they did together, and surprisingly it just didn't work. DJ Shadow's Entroducing is one of the best albums ever, and Cut Chemist is unbelievable, but together they don't match up.

Shadow has never been the same since Entroducing though.

A mate of mine couldnt go to the gig so I took the tickets off his hand. Was expecting something amazing but was left bemused & waiting for the gig to kick in - it never did :(

I said at the time, that I felt those two had gone too far up their own arse with that concept. It was a complete letdown. Cant ever remember dancing nor anyone else dancing - i've no recollection of even grooving. The music was strange to put it mildly & i've a very open mind when it comes to hearing a Dj(s) set - that was just plain & simple PANTS!

They had no interraction with the crowd, by which I mean the music itself. Some folk I spoke to after, regarded the gig as "ground-breaking". I fecking wet myself at that. It wasnt ground-breaking, it was two lads playin old tunes no-one had heard of & tunes that didnt go anywhere nor stimulate!

Entroducing is a fantastic album & will go down as a classic. It will always be hard for Shadow to re-produce an album such as that. In many respects he started off too high & its all downhill from here. To me he's lost his edge & direction!

Some artists only produce music thats within the current climate for reasons only beknown to them. Whats to say making another album full of tunes like "High Noon" wouldnt sell:

Dont think that vids working, so here's the link: YouTube - DJ Shadow - High Noon

Yep, I could never listen to anything of his in the same way, because it had nothing on Endtroducing.

Completely agree with the thoughts above, I struggled to put the collab album in a specific genre, it was horrible. Very weird, break-filled beats that didn't seem to mix in at all. I would of been happier if they had stuck to their own ways.

I would of been happier if i'd been able to get a feckin refund for the €50 I paid, that I couldnt afford at the time either - it was as you said HORRIBLE!

I was even stoned as feck but yet that didnt alter my intake of what I was hearing. Absolutely no artistic merit at all!

There's so much good stuff nowdays though, people just can't be arsed to search and appreciate the evolved form of the genre.

Christ, you know you're getting old when people start thinking the likes of Outkast, Nas and Snoop Dogg are old skool hip-hop.

I would say the major difference between old school and the mainstream today is the sound. You don't have the richness and grittiness both in beats and lyrics in the mainstream today.

Yeah, but Premier has Volumes of shit that goes well beyond Gangstarr, I never understood why he didn't give Guru some of his better beats.

Gangstarr for me is the perfect prelude to Premier as a solo DJ, and once you appreciate Gangstarr, you begin to see the real genius of Premier, and then the range of styles throughout his career, with the most consistency.

I assume that's why they broke up. Imagine how Guru must have felt upon hearing Unbelieveable, It's All Real, or Bring it On? Although he was privileged to lace Mass Appeal, You Know My Steez, and Royalty, absolute bangers.

Dre put off releasin "2001" because he said that the hip-hop / rap world wasnt ready for it yet. He has also stated that his next album has the same problems & has again put off its release!

He put it off cause he's a fecking slacker. I've been waiting for Detox for 8 years. Even Ras fecking Kass who was in jail during this period put out several albums. He can feck off

What if he released it and Hip Hop wasn't ready for it? Can you imagine what'd happen then?

Good hip hop is good hip hop, regardless of generation. I mean, 4 years is cool, 6 years is 'ok, well maybe he is a perfectionist', but 10 years? What is he, fecking Van Gogh?

That's sad to hear mate, I stopped caring after about 2 years of 'watch out for detox.'

I think it is most likely that Detox is shit - and after all the hype he is too embarrased to release it - the bits i heard were nowt special anyway.

I must say I'm disappointed. I thought this was gonna get all old skool on it. Bit of Afrika Bambata and the Soulsonic Force, or a bit of Slick Rick, Doug E Fresh and the Get Fresh crew.

Instead it has rather quickly turned into something resembling Hectic's Hip Hop thread.

Well I miss Hip Hop like this

It doesn't resemble my thread at all!
