Not the crap we have nowadays

That is all.

Someone's been listening to Playback FM and Radio Los Santos.

Miss Wu-Tang Clan!

Although I should probably check out some of their 2000-2009 stuff, probably several thousand albums I haven't listened to

What does Gary Busey have to do with Hip Hop, Pablo?

Inspectah, GZA and Raekwon have catalogs of unreleased stuff, some of it sounds like it should of been on those albums! I can send you some if you like.

I was thinking the same thing Pogue, and to be honest, half the music here is still around these days, it's just not packaged in the same deal. Westcoast rap is still as strong as ever, you just have to look harder, because the usuals aren't performing, but the Underground scene will never die.

My oldschool is grandmaster flash, sugarhill gang, Whodini, Afrika Bambaataa, Slick Rick etc!

Where's Gang starr in this thread??

The one and only hip hop band worth listening to.

That's the commercial shit though Solius, I believe there is better music coming out now, then most of the songs posted in this thread. It's really a matter of where to look, the chart shit or music channel rubbish is only going to have the 50's, drakes etc, but the internet is now the true home of Underground.

That's retarded, how can you appreciate Gangstarr, but not Premier with his other stuff? I always found Premier held back the best of his works not for Guru, but for his independant projects.

Obviously I am not into hip hop and only ever listened to Gang Starr and nothing that the dude did thereafter. Most hip hop is a pile of shite to me. Gang Starr wasn't.

Yeah, but Premier has Volumes of shit that goes well beyond Gangstarr, I never understood why he didn't give Guru some of his better beats.

Gangstarr for me is the perfect prelude to Premier as a solo DJ, and once you appreciate Gangstarr, you begin to see the real genius of Premier, and then the range of styles throughout his career, with the most consistency.

I don't listen to a whole lot of hip hop, to be honest.

I used to live with a bloke who was a hip hop obsessive, got exposed to a lot of good stuff and have had a bit of an interest ever since (although I listen to other genres of music much more than I do hip hop nowadays).

I'll keep an ear open for some of Premier's solo stuff but I reckon I'm getting too old to keep on top of contemporary music, never mind checking out back catalogues!

Anyway, I miss Afu-Ra, one of my favourite artists, lyrically insane. One of the few artists that really makes me stop and listen, and sit back in awe.

whats with all the hiphop reminiscing? yesterday we had the 80s rap thread and today the 90s!

When Dre brought out "2001" it revoultionised hip-hop / rap. I'll admit it took me a while for it to grow on me - a few listens, but it wasnt long before I regarded it as one of the classics & most certainly an inspiration for many artists at that time - not just hip-hop either, because the production of that album showed the heights that can be reached giving time & dedication to sculping a perfect album & thats what "2001" precisely was!

Dre put off releasin "2001" because he said that the hip-hop / rap world wasnt ready for it yet. He has also stated that his next album has the same problems & has again put off its release!

I am hoping that his next album will have the same effect as 2001 did & that artists will stop with this fecking bling-driven shite thats been going around for too many years - pretty much half of this decade. FFS - KRS One did the bling thing at the tale-end of the 80's with his vids of bitches, gold-drippin, fast cars & 4x4's!

These cnuts are re-producing something thats not only been done many years ago, but it is only serving to create Dollar-Chasing fecks with limited or no interest in the quality of the lyrics nor production of the cuts, all to get the money in!

Much of the hip-hop goin about today & for the past 10 years has been glorified RnB shite. fecking crap beats & with limited imagination or purpose - absolute drivel

I cant for the life of me see how folk have bought into a very substandard hip-hop / rap industry these past number of years. It hasnt a patch on the 90's vibe or the early years of the noughties!

We live in hope that Dre will be the saviour of the industry when his album is released - whenever that is i've no idea, but I live in hope

Big mention to Cube aswell - fecking class mate

The answer is very simple man - present "hip-hop" (if you can call it that) is shite & its been like that for a number of years!

I can see the similarities between many of us that love the 80's & 90's hip-hop / rap to the older rock folk who listen only to the likes of Pink Floyd & bands from that era - because good music is lost to them & they forever draw on the old skool!

Dre's production is nothing compared to the real greats, at least for me anyway. He is obviously extremely talented, and he knows Westcoast Rap like no-one else, but he can't revolutionize a genre which he doesn't even lead.

I live in wait for Black Moon, Smif-n-wessun, Pete Rock, Premier, Beatminerz, Prince Pauls and DJ Spinna's, they need to come back.

DJ Shadow, what a legend that man is. Midnight in a Perfect World is the ultimate zoning song of all-time.

Geto Boys are always a good shout.

Its all about opionion man & you mentioned some very talented mo'fo's there

You're damn right there, it is all down to opinion.

Slum Village just dropped a new album, I can scratch them off my 'MAKE SOME MUSIC YOU feckS' list.

As Hectic mentioned before, the garbage is only in the mainstream scene, there are some real gems underground.

Cracking song alright!

Seen Shadow & Cut Chemist this time last year in Dublin - didnt dig it at all. They were using old 7ins for the whole gig, but it didnt work for me tbh!

Very disappointed :(

Yup, Endtroducing is up there as one of my favorite albums of all time.

What Does Your Soul Look Like Part 1-4 is simply breathtaking as is Stem/Long stem.
