Looking at City’s squad depth in attack for next season I think there is a chance to gain serious ground on them. Starting XI is world class but injuries to any of the wide players and I don’t see the depth there with the loss of Mahrez.
Arsenal however worry me. They have added quality on top of what they had last season. They look stronger and if Jesus can stay fit too they have pretty much top quality and depth in each position.
Chelsea under Poch look a bit more threatening and will have a clear idea of how to play. They need a CM though and it would be a big jump for them to become a threat.
Liverpool having a completely new midfield will be an issue but they have great options in attack.
Spurs will be spurs. Even with Kane I think they’ll struggle to get top 4.
Then you have Newcastle, Brighton and Villa who I think will be knocking on the door of top 6.
This will of course change before the window is over, but;
As it stands, I agree City's got depth issues, at least compared to before. It'd hit them hard if Walker leaves too.
Liverpool; all in all probably improved, but that will be some transition in the midfield, and they've lost a lot of dressing room influence and depth. A bit unpredictable.
Arsenal; with them I suspect it'll be as much what happens in their heads as the squad additions. And I'm also not entirely convinced by their squad additions, except Timber. So, also a bit unpredictable.
Chelsea will for sure be much better, which isn't saying much. You'd assume though that Pocchetino will need a little bit of time to create a fully functional new machine, and that this'll put them at some disadvantage vis a vis their competitors for top 4.
Newcastle you have to respect, but I suspect they somewhat overperformed last season, and they really don't have ideal squad depth for a CL campaign. Good signings, but hardly transformative.
Spurs are hard to judge while the Kane saga goes on, and who can really tell how it'll go with Postecoglu and his reversal of stylistic approach? In any case, they are in my view outsiders for a top 4 spot this season.
Can Brighton get significantly better than last year? Well yes they can, but surely it's more likely that they won't. Villa though is not getting enough attention i think - they've made three astute signings that are all likely to significantly improve them, and they were basically playing top 4 football the last half of last season.
However, the really striking thing is the number of teams that are looking weaker than last season (although obviously that could still change). Everton, Wolves, Palace, West Ham. And Fulham, if Mitrovic leaves. In addition to which I can't remember the last time the newly promoted looked as bad as they do this year.
