Howe would Eddie do at United?

No matter who we buy Rashford starts instantly! It’s like a clause in every managers contract that says Rashford can not be sold and you have to build around him. Halve of our midfielders are injured. Casemiro out, Eriksen out, 2 of our better passers. We have wide men that are greedy. And don’t supply the passes when they should like the rest of the top teams, they have unselfish players. We have players that play for them self. We have a squad that does whatever they want and doesn’t listen to the managers instructions and this is clear when ETH was Arguing with Martial during yesterdays game.

To be fair mourinho constantly benched rashford, it was ole that gave too many players an inflated self believe

Badly. Same as Potter would. We need some arses kicking and I still hope Ten Hag has got it in him

He demands players to run like maniacs for 90 minutes. Imagine telling that to our golden boy Rashford

What happened to the last manager we had who took a micro club to 4th once? And that was a significantly bigger micro club than the Sunderland B Howe manages today.

The United job chewed him up and spat him out

The people wanting him after they beat us are yous still feeling the same after they got battered of Everton?

Not very well. His work at Bournemouth would be respected by most at Newcastle, but will be laughed off by the 350k a week divas at our club.

We want a manager who can win games with the minimum amount of training and hard work. Our rockstars need time off to set up their clothing brands and manage PR and cannot possibly focus all their efforts on football like at Newcastle.

Somewhere in the same region as all our other post-SAF managers.

No manager is going to do as well as they are at their current club if we don't offer the same or better support than their current club does. And support isn't just giving them money and letting them pick which players we buy.

I see Eddie Howes Newcastle got battered at Everton, 3-0 flattered Newcastle, should have been 6. Some how Howes wonderful team are still below us in our “crisis” season.
Trust in ETH.

No way would he be worse.

Come on now, he's not just 'okay'. What he's doing at Newcastle is top notch. Setting up the foundation, getting the players to play like that, even some of the new arrivals who've never heard of him, it's only something you see in the most promising managers. At Bournemouth, he was a bit naive, but ever since he joined Newcastle, he has shown a ruthless streak. He is Dark Howe now.

He's top class. They're buying into whatever he's selling. He even plays the kids and they're performing brilliantly. Wake up, smell the roses, he's better than what we've got.

Tough to say how he would have done but he's a much better manager than Ten Hag that's for sure. Ten Hag would have blown close to £700m by now if he was at Newcastle. Howe took Newcastle to the CL using largely the squad he met when he joined them.

He wouldn't have won the league but I'm pretty sure he would have made us play better football than the garbage we have been playing for years.

He wouldn’t be my first choice to replace Ten Hag but he’s a better coach who has a far better understanding of the Premier League and what is required and produces far better attacking football then Ten Hag can and has. The statistics are there to show that.

It’s obviously helped him massively having the money to bring in the players he has but what’s been impressive is the players he’s improved.
Longstaff, Almiron, Joelinton, Schaar, Murphy. Honestly look at those names. What on earth are they doing playing in the CL and holding their own. Outplaying some huge hitters at home in most weeks.
Their football isn’t sexy but it’s high tempo, aggressive, clinical and direct. All things we lack massively. He can’t really have them playing any other way because technically they’re bang average. But he’s done an amazing job there to be fair. I thought he was very good at Bournemouth at first but the last few years there he was a bit naive and made some terrible signings. But he’s proved himself again.

Grass is greener and all that. People get desperate as the club refuses to move a finger until it has all gone to hell, and suddenly even the guy next door would do a better job. Howe is not a bad manager, he has shown good things over the years. But he's not cut out for this level. Even at Newcastle, he's a placeholder, responsible to help them take the first few steps toward their goal. Nothing more, nothing less.

He wouldn't do any better at United than Newcastle. Also, please keep in mind he overperformed massively last year.

He's another one that came through the Brittish system and has the same faults as all the others, bar not as bad as Lamps, Stevie or Wayne. He is a decent manager but lacks the special oomph that will take a team to a whole new level, plus, he has managed 0 "big" players until now, which would complicate things a bit. (Wouldn't really have that issue at United cause bar Varane and Casemiro, most of the squad is average at best).

I see no issue in my post. I stand by it. I didn't say he's the next coming of Pep Guardiola or anything. Just that he will play better football than the crap served by Ten Hag every week.

I bet the Saudis have already lined up his replacement like city with the Hughes/Mancini switch.
He's a caretaker manager at this point. Can't see him getting a 'big' club after Newcastle though.

I worry about how Zidane would do at United, never mind this tiny-toothed wideboy.

You mean now?

As in: sack ETH and somehow manage to get Eddie Howe to be our...coach for the next few months (as some kind of caretaker)?

Feck knows, maybe. Depends on all sorts of things.

If it were possible to sack ETH right now and hire Howe in a caretaker capacity, I would be in favour of that - because...why not?

I can tell you this, though: if United had hired Eddie Howe as our "manager" back in April 2022 on the same conditions as ETH, he would have fecked up spectacularly. There's no chance in hell that he would have done any better than ETH under identical circumstances.

Probably worse.

ETA And that very much goes for De Zerbi too.

I mean, wake the feck up!

Our only hope right now is that Ratcliffe insists on a new structure - one where the good ol' British style "manager" plays no part whatsoever.

Do you think it would've been a good idea to - effectively - give Eddie Howe hundreds of milions to spend on players he's worked with before and/or thinks would fit his system?

Hint: No. It is a terrible idea. And everything we've done as a club since Fergie retired proves this.

Newcastle have had a pretty horrendous 4-5 weeks.

Some of Newcastle's results this season:

Newcastle 5-1 Aston Villa
Sheffield Utd 0-8 Newcastle
Newcastle 4-1 PSG
Newcastle 1-0 City
Man Utd 0-3 Newcastle
Newcastle 1-0 Arsenal
Newcastle 4-1 Chelsea
Newcastle 1-0 United
And some good away draws such as Milan, West Ham and PSG.

What are our good results this season?

Man Utd 2-1 Chelsea
Liverpool 0-0 Man Utd
Man Utd 3-2 Aston Villa

At least Newcastle fans have had some big scalps and entertaining games to enjoy. Howe has done a good job there overall, but might have to part ways in the summer if they want to take that next step. Not getting CL football will be a setback. They still a lot of players who need to be moved on from the days of Bruce and Rafa. More depth needed.

He'd easily be worse than ten hag and we'd have even more injuries than we currently do. These lot complained about the intensity of our training and pressing demands already, Howe's style would cripple this squad and he'd have been sacked by now as players would have turned on him far quicker.

Could you imagine the caf when we sign Miguel Almiron for 70 mill ?
