How would you rate the signing of Casemiro?

Between 1 and 10, then I'd rate his transfer as lightweight thus far.

It's been a B plus out of 5 stars.

He's been very good. My only issue is I think we should aim for younger players like Camavinga or Vinicius, not the players they're replacing. That said, of they're available, why not get someone who can make an instant impact when your squad is really weak?

You could aim for Vini jr, Camavinga or Tchouaméni but when they are at Real Madrid you cant get them if Madrid doesnt want to let them go. If they arent at Madrid yet but Madrid wants them you cant get them either.

So its older but still very good Casemiro or a younger but -will never be as good a Casemiro or Camavinga- type of player.

Who would you have liked to go for last summer? Which player is anywhere near Casemiro his level or has the potential to be at, or near, that level and was also willing to join Manchester United?

Ok let’s be serious here, he currently costs the club £61m plus £10m add one on a 4+1 contract so we can amortise at just over £15m, first season we bought the best CDM in the world as he was voted in FIFPRO team, we got a CDM that provided the Glue to dysfunctional team, that constantly got overrun in midfield, for a short period of time, Varane, Martinez and Casemeiro in that base of the spine looked as good as any in the PL. He had two dodgy red cards, 13 yellow cards and played 48 games.

He’s scored 6 goals, 6 assists as a CDM which means he has a Goal Involvement every 4 games as a CDM. He’s a clear 8.75/10 signing for this year, only blemish is reds and yellows but that’s also down to how deep the team play and how he’s normally a single pivot in a staggered 4-1-2-3 add the 2 games for Madrid and 5 at the WC, it’s no surprise he’s tired, by the time the season finished he would have played 58 games for a 31 going on 32 year old. If we can get the same output next year, 50 games Played with a 1 in 4 Goal involvements and we win another trophy and qualify for CL then he’s been a great signing whatever happens in last 2-3 years

I think people forget how good we were defensively when we had Martinez, Varane and Casemiro playing at 100%. The stats people are just looking at xGD over the season and treating that as a purple patch but the two suspensions and him ramping back up after sitting on the sidelines for 2 months had a big effect in our data. As did the initial days when we were figuring everything out where McT had him benched for a while and people were calling him fat.

We're definitely getting there even if the data doesn't show it just yet.

I think if we bought someone like Caciedo or D Rice and played either next to him in a 4231 formation away from home, we would see a huge improvement, buy a decent keeper, KMJ, 2 strikers like Kane and Thurham or R Hojlund and we would challenge because we wouldn’t lose 8 away games, maybe 4 and 1 draw 3 wins that’s 10 points more. The heavy defeats are because ETH thought the players he has can play 4-1-2-3 and the PL is too competitive.

8 out of 10 signing for me.

At a club whose usual signings (over the past 10 years) are 5-6 out of 10 or lower.

A leader, a goal threat, an intelligent player that links defence and attack incredibly well.

Just wish he was younger and was surrounded by slightly better players.

A Fergie worthy player.

Where would you play Bruno in this 4231?

I couldn't tell you but I'm not a scout. I'd expect them to know more players than me.

Liverpool and City rarely go for players at Real Madrid or Barcelona. Salah was from Roma and De Bruyne was Wolfsburg iirc. Hopefully we'll make more signings like Bruno and Martinez. Players that fit in brilliantly, are young and aren't overpriced. Casemiro is a brilliant player but we aren't getting back to the top by signing the players too old for Real Madrid so I just hope this doesn't become a habit.

No-one should have doubt Casemiro ability, the only concern is on his age, his 60m price tag. Had we got hold of him say 4 years ago, even 80m is inexpensive. What will happen when he is 33 years old, or 34. I doubt his contribution will be as good after 2 seasons, then it will be back to the Van Persie argument. Hopefully Casemiro can contribute more than 2 seasons, better than RVP's 1.

By the same token, Eriksen is a steal, even if he can only contribute 2 seasons, because he cost us nothing, and is making instant impact.

A-. Very good overall but the suspensions have been a significant negative. No reason why he can't be even better next season now that he's settled into the team and premier league football.

Here’s the thing Casemeiro cost you personally nothing so why do you care about his price tag and Eriksen is a number 8/10 yet has only scored 1 goal in his pomp at spurs he was getting double figures, he has had a few assists but he still cost £10m per year on our accounts because of his wages, personally I’d buy Sergei Milinkosavic who would get 10-12 goals like KDB and Odegard, Eriksen was a smart signing but I wanted more goals from him. This united team lacks goals so to have a CDM that wants to try and score is a huge bonus.

I'm solidly behind that approach in principle. But there are always exceptions, and this is I think an obvious one.

When you have a central midfield such as United had - a constant source of misery, a deep structural flaw that limited the possibility for all other parts of the team to grow and improve - do you bring in an emerging talent to fix that? It's a huge ask - even for a major talent. Casemiro has been transformative - he has turned our central midfield into a position of advantage vis-a-vis most teams. And then we can build from that. In my view, he's worth every penny, and it was the right choice to bring him in. 10/10 for me.

Brilliant signing - he is so clever that as he ages, he'll just get more cerebral. He'll be at OT when he's 35 still getting MOTM awards. I'll go 9 out of 10.

He's the most important player a United side have ever had, at least in my lifetime.

8/10. We went from having no defensive midfield options to one of the best in the world. That period from December to February he was key to getting us close to City/Arsenal and also winning us a trophy. Would be a 9 if not for the suspensions (even if he was harshly treated) and his drop off over the Spring months (which coincided with us dropping off as a team too).

We need to sign someone who can cover him and also play alongside him in the bigger matches as I think we get overrun with Eriksen in there.

He will be 1 year older.

It's funny how quickly people forget that our midfield before him was McTomminay and Fred. Both bang average.

Casemiro has been superb considering this is his first time in the Prem. He's played like he's been here ten years. How anyone can say he's mediocre or a bit average is beyond me.

We've literally fallen apart at times when he's not been available to play. Sure, he's had some red cards that didn't help, but so did Roy Keane in his time. Players that put it about in midfield like those two, will get cards, fact. I would rather that than average performances from McTomminay and watch Fred run around chasing a tennis ball like a dog on a beach.

9/10 for me. The fact he's been knackered the last few games just shows how much he's put into this season. I'm expecting him to be even better next season now he's got his head around how Prem football works.

Even though he was already established as world-class, you can't expect him to be the best in the league in his first season. Also, he doesn't have a partner that suits his game.

Saying that, I do think he has been underwhelming bar a couple of months when he was phenomenal but he will be the most important player for us next season.

He has been an excellent signing. What we need to improve upon massively as a club is supplementation. Casemiro is expected to do *far* too much for us without adequate or competent assistance; at Madrid, he was the best DM in the world, coupled with the best midfielder in the world and the best deep distributor in the world to form a formidable trio, all enabling one another to be the specialists that they are. Here, there is none of that, and that leads to Casemiro having to be Robson every other game. It is a stupid way to use a player in this day and age, and it will lead to burnout and some of the wildness we see via over exertion.

Casemiro has years left in him, as the player he is supposed to be, but if we’re going to continue to encumber him, he’ll be cooked in half the time. There’s no midfielder doing more to keep a midfield together by himself than Casemiro at United, and that absolutely shouldn’t be the way of things, in these times when collectively better midfield units actually do less between themselves as individuals.

Get the right players around him and he is the foundation and catalyst to trophies and title challenging league campaigns.

Our best centre midfielder in the last 10 yrs.

That's not saying much in all honesty...:D

Pogba and Herrera were overrated and terribly inconsistent . Matic was injury prone...

Anyway for me Casemero has been our most important player this season.

Just hoping he can give us a couple more years at his peak before the inevitable decline..

8/10

He will be 1 year older.
I doubt it and I am tired listening to people telling me what to believe. I'm fighting against global warming, mercury poisoning, the taliban, I am extremely tired. I'm here now and I wont let anybody overtake me. My road!

8/10 when he first began, 7/10 now - seems to be declining rather fast. Will probably be an average 5/10 signing by the end of his contract.

Apart from our last match where he was the best player on the pitch and scored the winner.

I don't think we'd have made top 4 this season without him, so regardless of how we does for the remainder of his contract I think he'll at least be considered a reasonably successful signing.

Hopefully we can manage to still extract some quality out of him for a few more seasons. Whether he is used as more of an anchor man with runners in front, or could he he's more advanced with a ball winner behind or beside him. The Rice links make more sense that way I suppose. But if we're going into next season or the season after with a Eriksen-Casemiro midfield duo it's asking for trouble and his transfer could end up looking as disappointing as a few other big money transfers we've had in the last decade. Hopefully ETH can manage the situation one way or another.

As I said in the other thread, We have only conceded one League goal at home when Casemiro was on the pitch which was against City He didn't play against Liverpool or Brighton. He came on as a sub against Arsenal after they had scored. Palace scored after he got sent off and he was suspended against Leeds.

He's great but he will probably need to be replaced quite soon. People are often unrealistic about the staying power of elite players after 30.

Been our best CM signing since Carrick. And the one who most reminds me of Keane, not only for his work on the pitch but the way his drive seems to lift others around him. 9/10.

While I was pleasantly surprised by his incredible passing range (albeit the inconsistency of it), it's also a bit of a shock to see him look slow and cumbersome at times. He definitely needs a mobile and consistent midfielder next to him (someone of the FDJ mould); hopefully, he will then be back at his best protecting the defence and playing the CDM role with that incredible passing range of his.

He might be expensive and older than what is ideal, but I think it’s undeniable that we wouldn’t have made top 4 without him. He’s been central to us having an overall positive season and something to build on for next year.
