How would you feel if Rooney smashed it at Everton?

Don't worry it gets easier as time passes mate. Wayne might have been your favourite player but look on the bright side, you can now pick a new one. Personally, I think you'd really take to Fellaini or Blind.
Not sure if serious

I want Rooney to do well and hope his return to Everton works out well for him and the club. However when he plays against us I hope he has one of those games he used to have for us against Everton.

I think Rooney will do well and you just know that he'll probably smash a goal or two against us! I'm in the minority on here but I still think he's got a lot to offer!!

Such mixed feelings about Wayne. Used to be my favorite player, but once his form declined drastically a few seasons ago I always thought his place was not at OT anymore.

Honestly, I wish him all the best but I'm sure as hell we'll never be able to see the old Rooney again. Maybe just glimpses.

We were paying him £200k - £250k a week, that's a lot of smashing he's going to have to do to suggest that it was a poor decision to sell him.

This thread definitely has shades of the time Rooney was going to become a midfielder and smash it.

I'd be happy for him. But I would question what the hell happened here over the last few odd years, since if he does have some sort of resurrection, then it was always within him anyway. So, it wouldn't be his ability that declined...but something else hampering it.

It's hard to say because I genuinely don't believe there is even a remote chance of that happening, and thus it's hard to gauge how I'd feel. I know that I wouldn't consider it a mistake to have let him go, but I think I'd be quite neutral overall.

Back in reality, we let him go at the right time. I think I just see him like I do the likes of Wes Brown, Fletcher, etc. at other PL teams. I tend to just focus on the current United team, rather than looking at others.

Same as I would if Emma Stone asked me out on a date tonight. Mildly surprised.

Just mildly surprised at Emma stone asking for a date? If you have more realistic expectations in life you will become happy Chris.

It would be nice to see Wayne return to his somewhat former self so I'd be happy for him, mainly because it would piss Liverpool off immensely if Everton became immediate rivals. They'll be a lot of people on here hoping he does us a favour against the big teams at some point this season.

However, I will be really pissed off if he has the game of his life against us and scores a hat trick. Then you can cue the "where the feck was that the last 3 years!?".

It still amazes me that people can so easily dismiss a player who has scored goals like this in every season for the last decade. Initial signs are good according to Everton fans...

Can't judge fully until the games are proper competitive ones, but looks fitter, faster and has a bit if the nark back to his game, all three he was lacking for a couple of years at United.
It's very refreshing to see the ball stick to him when back to goal. Showing really good link up play and some deft touches, which is something we were not used to with Rom!
His influence is still there, both on and off the pitch. Between him, Klaassen and Sandro we played some boss stuff going forward at times yesterday.
I was against signing him but early signs show I'll leave player judging to Walsh and Koeman. Needs to be used sensibly we need him for big games and maybe in cameos when chasing games. He has played a lot of football in his career. I would like to see an out and out striker brought in so we can utilise him in number 10 role in some games.
He was on a different level to everyone out on that pitch. It's early day's but i think coming back to us has reignited something in Wayne.I think he will be eager to prove a point that he is not finished as a player, and of course winning a trophy with us will be the ultimate way to top off a brilliant career.
Remember when everyone said Rooney was the icing on top of the cake? Turns out he's actually the cake.
LOL at the UTD fans saying his legs have gone, the lad looks on a different level to most of boys.

I dunno man. It's not like he just had 1 iffy season, he's been poor for a few years now. Of course you never lose it upstairs, and he'll still have magical moments, but I'd be surprised if at the end of this season he's started more than 20 league games and got double digits in goals.

I think he'll start the season well. He'll be in the first team and in a honeymoon period. Expect that to dry up by Oct/Nov though and see him reduced to a bench player from the new year onwards.

Hope I'm wrong mind you. Would be delighted for him to be a smash hit and win a trophy.

No doubt he's long past his best, but I think people underestimate the gap between his best and Everton's best. He's one of their most gifted, experienced, reliable players - significantly better than a few in their starting XI and better than most.

He's shite. Those same people will be cursing the signing in a couple of months. I mean, he'll score some goals, but the rest of his game borders on woeful and that isn't going to change as a product of this move.

To get the best out of him then Everton must play him right up top. It's the only place he can play.

Is this all because he scored a long ranger the keeper should have saved and got that tap-in the other day?

Jesus christ, pre-season wanking is amateur hour. Wait until he has to play regularly again.

For the record, no I don't think he's better than most of the Everton side (and I don't even rate them).

They're definitely placing far too much stock into pre-season matches. Far, far too much.

He's trash, not even bothered what he does he isn't a united player anymore.

I'll be delighted, if he can get Everton to actually win a Mersey derby that would be nice, if he can somehow eat points from the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, City, that would be awesome too.

We'll soon find out but I think you're miles off there. We've watched Wayne struggle against lesser teams than Everton for a number of years now.

when LVG was deciding who his captain would be, Rooney was in great form in the US games. First friendly at Old Trafford as new captain he turned to shite

This is the key point. People don't understand the difference between leading the line for a club like Manchester United and Everton FC.

Rooney can still prove to be a key player for Everton - a team that aspires to finish in the top four.

He's not playing for us anymore so no need to be hesitant in praising him. The long ranger was beautiful. Had any of our darlings scored that this place would have gone wild and his second goal was not a tap in at all.

You're wrong if you don't think he's better then Everton's side. I firmly believe he will be a good signing for Everton (yet was the right decision for us to sell)

Rooney might have a decent season because of the motivation to play at one last World Cup, but I can see him out of the side by February.

Especially if Sandro starts well.

Really dont care. Never was a Rooney basher but if you take a side everything and look at him as purely pro football player,he is a disgrace, people can defend him with some DNA bullshit but he let him self go so hard. Compared with Zlatan for example and what he did to be in shape as 35/36, Rooney looks like 42.

Doesn't matter. Lost his hunger here.

The be and end all. We've moaned about him for the last few years because he's looked well off the pace, unfit and his attitude has been "nothing to prove". If he decides this season he's going to get his head down, train hard, sort his diet out and stay off the booze, lose a stone and find some form.... then it's more shame on him for the last few years.

I'll be happy for him if he does 'smash it' at Everton. He has been a very good player for us, and our record goalscorer. Despite what happened near the end, he'll be remembered as a United legend after a while.

I highly doubt that'll happen though. He is physically shot. Doubt he'll have an amazing season. But if he plays well at the start and gains some confidence, he can have a good impact at Everton.

Regardless of what he does at Everton, it was clear as day that he was done at United. I wish him all the best for his future.

Rooney is a distant memory who is playing at his favorite club. That's about all the thought I can spare on him at this time.

I'd like it if he scores a kind of consolation goal against us and then gets the sort of cheers RvP did when he scored last year.
