How well will Wout Weghorst do?

I said this before he arrived.

I alwsys make this (crap) analogy, but I suspect it'll turn out like the second coming of Flamini at Arsenal. It's readily apparent he's not quite good enough, but he shows you what you've been missing in that position in terms of the things he does and the intensity he does them with. I can see Martial basically losing his place to him, not because Weghorst is a world class striker, but because he'll do a lot of the things world class strikers do, even if not quite to their level. Whereas Martial does a few things to a world class level, but so infrequently that it doesn't really move the needle at all.
[Ron Howard voice] It did not turn out like that.

He’s exactly like I am, tries his heart out and cares passionately…but is just a bit too shit

Cant see any situation where he would be brought on in the cup final. Certainly wont be scoring any winners.

Worst player we've seen or will presumably ever see in a United shirt.
Could easily see one.

If we're up a goal or two with 10 minutes to go, he comes on to defend it. He's basically a Harry Maguire up front

Would Kompany even want him back? He did alright in Turkey, I think Burnley could get a few quid for him and buy a player who can score in the Premier League. I really hope it's not us who buys him.

Imagine this was true, we’d all be delighted.

turns out he didn’t chip in with goals or get subbed on much cause he actually started a lot of games.

worst loan ever

worst player I’ve ever seen at Utd

farewell.
Not even the worst striker at United. Dong Fanzhuo was worse.

Dong was a youth player who got a runout in a dead rubber after we sealed the league title. He doesn't even count as a real first teamer.
I didn’t realise we were putting arbitrary parameters on it! He also played in the league cup and champions league for us

Come on, you know what he means. Dong was never a senior player: he played a dead rubber in the league, a League Cup game at Old Trafford where we played a combination of squad players and youth players, and came on as a sub in a dead rubber CL game.

By comparison, Weghorst started what, 20 competitive games in a row, including European ties against effing Barcelona, a very important league game at Anfield, and so on. You can point at some youth player who played ten minutes at one point and say that lad was worse than Weghorst but that's not really in the spirit of the debate, is it?

If we learn anything from this, I hope that we finally learn that when scouting players, goals scored in the Bundesliga simply do not count.

Goals scored in the player's back yard against their kids should be given more weight.

Thank you. Insane that this distinction even has to be explicitly spelled out.

Terrible.

It was hard to have any huge expectation of him being great, he was evidently at Besiktas by way of Burnley for a reason - but it feels like an achievement that he's been quite that unproductive at Man United as a striker. So poor.

I can't criticise him on a personal level. I think he gave it what he had. He just shouldn't have been in that spot on his ability.

I think the smarter call is to factor in a players other qualities other than production to see and project whether they will work in a better league. Pace/technique/passing ability/IQ all translate. Production doesn’t necessarily

Am sure he's a lovely guy and it was moving to see how he celebrated the league cup win - knowing he probably shouldn't be anywhere near such things and knew to treasure every single moment.

But this is Manchester United football club. You should be a fairly quality player to be anywhere near the pitch to play here.

I admire the guy's attitude and effort, but that miss today summed up his time at the club. I'm sure he'll do fine in a more forgiving league again next season when Burnley offload him.

I can’t understand the misses. If he’s missing those chances then how has he scored at all?

By all accounts a great guy and an asset in the dressing room but as a Manchester United player, he falls far short of what was required. But for Glazernomics, Wout wouldn't have been signed and would still be plying his trade in Turkey.

Well, he's performing at the level you'll expect from a Championship player. Can't say I'm shocked by how it ended. You sign a player from Burnley, you get what you paid for.

It's the mental pressure of performing for a club like United. It's easy to forget he's scored a few goals in the Turkish league and against the eventual world Cup winners this season.

Imagine he comes on and scores the winner in the cup final though. Instant legend

He was useful for us in many games back in February/March, his pressing game is good but didn't expect him to have 2 goals and 2 assists in total with 0 PL goals. If he got 5+ in all comps it would look better.

Our season turned out good so will remember him in a positive way even though he's not PL level at all, let alone good enough for United.

My God! My old nan, God rest her soul, could have scored that sitter. Even when she was 90. And blind.

It wouldn’t make it worth signing him, but it would make it a successful loan

if he gets the winner in the cup final and denies city the treble he will be a legend and worth more than a few goals in a few league games when we would have finished exactly where we have finished if they went in!
