How Was Veron?

Veron's football looked very solid last night.. i thought it was clearly his best performance in the CL this season.

Depor looked lost tho.. so it would have been better to see Veron against Juventus to make sure he's finally adapted to playing with us.

His first corner that almost got Brown on the fly looked A LOT like the one Batistuta scored from during the WC.. Veron's ball placement is just absolutely amazing. There was also one more time when he tried to cross the ball with the back foot (cross-foot cross, is that what you call it?) absolutely beautiful to watch.

I think he should take more chance and be confidence to score from freekick when becks was not playing. I saw once quite long time ago in one of the Argentina WC qualifying match where he scored from a good freekick. But nowadays he always shot the ball to the opponent's wall. Since he got a very good ball placement skill I think he can be a very dangerous freekick taker with more freekick practice.

Best game I've seen him play. Sublime skill, perfect passing and winning 50-50 tackles.

For a 20 minutes or so of the second half, Depor played some of the best football I've seen this season. We then managed to wrestle control away and score the second goal. After that they lost heart and we bossed it. It was a very impressive performance all round. Seba has as been mentioned was excellent. The booking was right in front of us and it was clear he got the ball, confirmed on TV later but it was arguably two footed, that's why the ref booked him. On the whole I thought the ref had a poor game, usually European night refs are good but this guy was poor I hope we don't see him again. I agree with Weastie, Seba just needed time, he's always been a class player. It was particularly good to see the reception he got last night when taking corners and when leaving the pitch at the end.

All in all this run of results starting from the Newcastle game has been exceptional. Where are those who were saying our season would be over by now? We're three points behind the Arse in the league, a good(and competitive) third round FA cup tie to look forward to, maximum points in the CL 2nd Phase and even in the QF of the League Cup! All this with half a team out. Now we need to concentrate on domestic competitions until February and make sure we tackle teams like West Ham with the same vigour as we tackled Arsenal.

It's gonna be an interesting Christmas & hopefully a successful new year.

Veron had a good game. That's two in a row. Very good. Let's hope he makes it three, perhaps even four. As for Waste's "all he needed was time" comment, I think many think 1 1/2 years is a lot of time to need and that he's still to prove he can play consistently at that level of performance. Of course, what you conveniently ignore when you and perky go off on your mancer than manc, redder than red tirades against those with opinions, is that we all want him to suceed but aren't convinced that he will - doesn't mean we are not happy when he plays well, but you may expect more praise from the knockers when he's done this over a season, not just two games.

I Know i haven't been here long, but i said in another post how capable Veron is, IMO he is the best passer in the world, does anyone remeber the pass he did to Gary Nevielle last year against Olympiakos, when he was on the half way line and he jumped up and done a volley/slice, and it landed just in front of the corner flag, perfectly timed for GN, quality thats all i can say. And to be honset not too upset about him missing the Juve Game, cos we are at home and hopefully will have Gigsy, keane, becks, butt, scholesy available, but we will have him for the away game in Italy, and i think he will play better there in his return to the San Siro and he would have lost his yellow card before going into the knockout stages.

the first match is at old trafford and the second in turin i think. so he shud play in italy(if he returns)

Great that Seba is now showing everyone what he really is and indeed always has been, a world class player. There's an air of expectation everytime he gets the ball - always the sign of a great player.

veron was fantastic. man of the match. i cannot believe he got a booking for that challenge though.

The Arse were truly abysmal and he was outshone by Phil Neville!!

It was a two footed tackle from behind, so yes it was a yellow.

He got the ball, his feet we're together, and he didn't show any studs. The ref was poorly placed, and poor in general. Appeal!
