How long have you followed Utd?

Since 1979, the FA Cup final Arse-Man Utd. Down by 2 with 5 minutes to go, we come back via Gordon McQueen and Sammy MacIlroy. Alas just when I thought we could at least force xtra time, Brady crosses to Allan Sunderland for Arse's winner. It was gut wrenching to say the least, but I knew then there was only one team for me, and through the years, the bad and good, we've always been together, and will always be together till death do us part.

Born Red in '69 but can't really put a date on when you actually qualify as a supporter (opinions vary around here, there are those who would still argue that Bobby Charlton is a glory hunter ;) ).

I can remember the playground aggro when City beat us 4-0 at Maine Road '75 or '76 and lifes ups and downs at the time were tied to the results versus City and Liverpool.

The first match I actually remember sitting down to watch and getting emotional about was the FA Cup final vs Southampton, took the shine off the start of the long hot summer holidays. More than made up for it the next year vs Liverpool though :D .

Attending matches at the time was not an option in my parents eyes given some of the "Head the Balls" who populated the terraces although I did go to OT for an England youth international when I was 8 or 9ish. By the time things had calmed down on the terraces and I was big enough and daft enough to look out for myself, I was moving around the UK and Europe, and broke so I didn't actually make it back in season time and find myself in possession of a ticket until 1994.

Yup, I'm a glory hunter :p

Definitely before 1976, because to this day I can remember have the piss taken out of me at school for losing against southampton in the cup final.

72, I saw G.Best for the first time, even though he was not making his best performence he was something special. And there was Sir B. Charlton playing midtfield with no hair on top only long in the back that realy made an impression.

The story of my life too. Born in 61, was introduced to the Man Utd religion very early in my childhood. My dad was a die hard fan and had almost every single newspaper articles on Utd. He might even have been among the very first Man Utd fans in Mauritius.

1970, we moved back from Australia and lived with my cousin he told me all about the clubs history and heratige and how to hate scousers well there has been no looking back even at school there was me and two others who supported United when the most followed the more succesfull liverpoo

1976.. pictures of me as a baby sitting in my pram with a United hat and scarf on.

Earliest games I can recall are reserve games at OT around 51/52 although my folks say they took me earlier and my ma says I was there in 48 inside her when she was pregnant with me!
It's been great!

Bet you had to pay well over the odds to get that season ticket, didn´t you? ;)

I started watching them when they started the European Cup campaign in the Autumn of 1967. If they were in the Conference i'd still watch 'em.

Wasn't particularly interested in football but agreed to support United to shut up my mate. At the end of that season, 66/67, he switched to Spurs because they won the Cup!

i thought this was a stupid subject but reading the posts brings back great memories.

1977
My grandad was a Liverpool fan and was watching the FA Cup Final. Just to annoy him I supported who they were playing against and when United beat them I had such a great time taking the piss out of him I just stuck with them. I was 6 years old.

I was 4 in 1960 when my Dad (He went to the 1st team games with his mates) started to take me to the reserves, which we did every week until he let me go to 1st team games with my mates at the grand old age of 10. We walked down Chester Road from Deansgate, legged it to the gound down Warwick Rd and panicked if the queue for the Stretford End juniors (at about 12:15!) was more than halfway down United Rd. We had to get the spot behind the net on the fence (handy for pennies when we played city). Then came further up on the left side (any Middy lads from the right here?). I remember some away fans got in the tunnel once - maybe Everton? Caused chaos. On the pitch against city in 74, broke into Bloomfield Rd at 12:00 once. Good end that before they took the roof off. After that it was Scoreboard End...more fun with the away fans. Then came the Scoreboard Paddock at the top followed by United Rd (remember Smiler?). Got married and sensible with a seat in H Outer, got divrced, even more sensible and moved to K 236 with my brothers late 80's where I've been ever since. 42 years I think, scary...Still got all the progs, tickets, photos and still say that aways are best. Thank Eric for company petrol cards!!!

Sometime in the 80's when I was about 11. Went to watch FA Cup with my dad at a friend house. Didnt have a TV back then, Poor...sob!!!
Saw Ray Wilkins hit a ball from just after the half way line...GOAAALL!!!!thought it was incredible.
I was smitten from then on...loved Bryan Robson, Frank Stapleton, norman Whiteside...
Thought I would grow out of it....no such luck...once a red, alway a red...devil

1984, After watching the unrest between Liverpool and Juve supporters i decided at that moment to support a team which stood for something. UNITED THE ONLY TRUE RELIGION!

I remember my Dad putting me on his shoulders walking down Warwick road.

I've done it with my lad and he was gobsmacked.

Born 66...Loved them ever since.

Since the Munich Disaster on February 6th, 1958, or more precisely, about one week later, when the coffins of the victims were flown back to Ringway. I watched the procession from outside my parent's house in Wythenshawe. I didn't own a United scarf, so I tied a pair of red and white football socks around my neck. It was a sad, sad day that will be etched in my memory forever.
