How have we played the most matches in the league?

The fixture list is a lot more manageable after this month, even if we get past Barcelona in the EL.

The fact the London teams were allowed to play their Premier League games the weekend the Queen died was ridiculous, considering the reason given (all police forces were assigned to London). Either everyone plays or no-one plays in that situation and they fecked it up anyway by having two rounds go unplayed, when it should have been only one when everyone else in the UK was doing it.

So I mainly blame the Premier League for being so fecking stupid (again), over our EL exploits. Thinking they were leading the example whilst everyone else just got on with it and they ended up looking stupid.

I think it makes sense…all the police were already in London. I assume extra numbers had to be drafted in from accross the country that week to come to London.

Our scheduling has been abysmal. I think we didn’t do ourselves any favours by staying in various cup competitions. I would be interested in seeing how many games we played overall this season, not just in the Premier League.

This has got to be one of the most stupidest things I've read. Let's just lose in the cups so we can have a nice 1 game a week run.

Some fantasy football podcasts go into the weeds on how/why fixtures are scheduled as they are to try and predict when games will be re-scheduled to. It's quite convoluted (and tedious) but generally there are good and logical reasons for how they organise things.

And when you are in as many competitions as we are in a year already impacted by a World Cup, it's going to be an intense schedule.

Which is one more reason why the Premier League shouldn't have caved and postponed an entire round immediately after the queen's death when the decision was left up to them. It was patently ridiculous even then, not just with the benefit of hindsight.

Yep.

It's almost like the reaction to the Queen dying might have been ever so slightly OTT.

It was really not that hard to understand what he means.

It's fine the experts on here assured us that fatigue wasn't a thing anyway and there was no need to ever rotate.

23 games in EPL, 6 in Europa, 2 FA CUP, 5 League Cup = 36 games played

Arsenal (21, 6, 2, 1) = 30

City (22, 6, 1, 2, 3) = 34

Liverpool (20, 6, 1, 3, 2) = 32

Chelsea (22, 6, 1, 1,) = 30

Newcastle (22, 1, 6) = 29

Spurs (23, 6, 3, 1) = 33

What does he mean? We should be looking to win the competitions we are in, its as simple as that.

Obviously. Does not mean we should actively/deliberately drop out. He is saying our life is tougher by being in many competitions. Nothing to see here.

Pretty obvious if you look at the potential fixture list if we stay in the cups.

The loss to Sociedad was a disaster for us.

And all due to that atrocious decision to give them a penalty. Was that ever examined in any way? Looking at how everyone scrutinises every PL decision, these seem to just be accepted in Europe.

Settle down, it was explained on the same page if only you continued reading and bottled all that faux outrage for something more worthwhile.

You lot either have me misconstrued or are well over the top in your reactions. Allow me to clarify myself, I was merely replying to the OP. It’s a good predicament to be in, we can’t complain about our games if we stay in competitions.
Only draw back is we may not have the squad for all fronts. But I would rather have this problem than the problems from previous seasons.

This is great, thanks for this! I had no doubt we played more games than anyone else in the prem.

we have mininum 15 more league games, 2 more Europa, 1 more EPL and FA Cup = 19 games (totaling 54 games minimum)
we could have, in the alternative, 7 more Europa and 4 more Fa Cup games, totaling 63 games.

Phew, good thing we didn't win League/FA Cup and CL last year, or we'd have another 4.

63 sounds about what Liverpool played last year and they never shut up about it.

In future I don't think we'll have any choice but to get ourselves dumped out of the league cup early tbh.

To be fair almost all countries have dumped their League cups by now.

Outside of Britain the only one (European anyway) that comes to mind is Portugal. There's a few more nations with a cup that runs outside of the season, but that's mostly leagues with calendar year seasons.

It was indeed 63, 2008/09 season we played 66, which is the only one I could find/think of that's higher, I'm sure there's someone though.

The two extra Europa League games against Barca is the only thing I regret. Could have been avoided had McTominay scored in the final minutes against Real Sociedad. Otherwise, I'm happy we're progressing in the cups.
