How have we played the most matches in the league?

Us and Fulham are on 23 played. No-one else.

We have the busiest schedule in the league. How haven't we built up a backlog of games in hand like Liverpool?

We're having to play all our potential games in hand early because we're still in every cup competition.

Our scheduling has been abysmal. I think we didn’t do ourselves any favours by staying in various cup competitions. I would be interested in seeing how many games we played overall this season, not just in the Premier League.

I guess depending on Europa we will have a quieter run in, which could help us when it gets important

Pretty obvious if you look at the potential fixture list if we stay in the cups.

The loss to Sociedad was a disaster for us.

Hardly rocket science when you look at how many midweeks/weekends are remaining and how many games we potentially have left. Not everything is a conspiracy.

Would you rather we lost them instead?

The loss at home to Socidad was the most costly result, I wouldn’t change any wins into defeats to lighten our load, that’s mental obviously.

This. Also things will correct after the cup final where we will miss a PL fixture.

We say that a lot and it is true but actually if we conceded/scored two less/more against the shite teams in the group, that 1-0 win against Sociedad would have been enough. Many ifs, buts and maybes but still frustratining.

If we scored a couple more goals against either Sheriff or that other team, we would've finished first. We messed up trying to feed an old man's ego but thankfully that's in the past now.

The games against the Cypriot team were a disaster 2 conceded away and scrambled a last minute win at home after having 96 shots

If we play like this in the next games, we will have less cup games automatically

Because the PL like to screw us, could have done without those Palace and Leeds games and surprise surprise we dropped points in both

Not really sure where else they could have been put in the schedule tbf.

The fixture list which was messed about with be the queens passing hasn't helped and were still in cup comps, still think the FA could have easily scheduled other teams games to keep the integrity of the league. World cup in November as well. We have to just keep going .

We’re 2 games away from completing the equivalent of a full PL season.

City play Arsenal this midweek.

Still at a loss to why this wasn't played the same midweek we played Palace, given there's been multiple other nidweeks when City vs Spurs could have been scheduled. Its like they deliberately want it to be unfair. Whole issue only created in the first place by Arsenal cancelling a game they should never have been allowed to in circumstances where no other team has ever been allowed to.

Between this, the absolute garbage officiating and what's going on with City, for me the credibility is in tatters this season. There's no real way to say "yes they've been the best team" with any certainty.

I'm not suggesting a conspiracy I just think it's become a big mess. If we're honest United shouldn't be beating City with that Rashford goal, Arsenal beat Ubited after being given a massive advantage with fixtures and subsequently personel, then this weekend they've given up 2 points because an official "forgot" to check an offside.

I don't believe the idea these things even out over a season. Unless someone is causing them on purpose amd making sure everyone gets a mathematically equal share then they obviously don't. It's just that now there's so much of it that it's hard to even gauge how much difference its making.

I'm wondering if the omission of Spurs was intended as a joke or not :D

EDIT: Also, personally I'm not that bothered so long as we all play our first and last games at the same time, and there aren't any downright stupid situations like two games in 3 days...

It's good for the squad to gel faster and for Ten Hag to get his ideas across and also assess what we need/don't need.

Did think it was odd the other day, when we actually had a game or 2 rescheduled.

But much better to get these banked, and everyone else has to play catchup.

Essential to win that league cup, but the Europa is so horribly early still, it won't be a disaster to the rest of the season if we do go out.

Went from having a bunch of games in hand to having more than others. The Brentford game upcoming is going to need to be rescheduled anyway due to the cup final so it evens out. This Palace one and the Leeds one were the 2 rescheduled from the Queen stuff

What a ridiculous statement. Winning the various competitions is literally what we're playing football for.

Not if we make the final in the EL and the FA cup. They cannot just 'hope' we lose.
Exactly. It's not that complicated. Yes, there will be spare weeks if bow out in EL this week but fixtures can't be scheduled that way.

Not sure what's so hard to understand here.

this extra play off round for the EL is really daft. Why is it a 2 legged game and why is it even required.

The refereeing in the first Real Sociedad game was shambolic and is having a real negative impact on the rest of the season. Incompetent refereeing never gets punished.

I've developed a slightly pathetic appreciation for getting games out of the way due to the mad schedule. Might be the competitiveness of the league but i don't look at the table and add 3 points per game in hand anymore.

You lot either have me misconstrued or are well over the top in your reactions. Allow me to clarify myself, I was merely replying to the OP. It’s a good predicament to be in, we can’t complain about our games if we stay in competitions.
Only draw back is we may not have the squad for all fronts. But I would rather have this problem than the problems from previous seasons.

The away game against Sociedad still haunts me too to be honest.

We needed just one more goal for the whole 2nd half and could barely get a touch of the ball and had 1 attempt on goal. ETH switched the a back 3 of Dalot Martinez Shaw with no wing backs, played Rashford as a number 10 and put Maguire up front. It was the worst use of subs I've ever seen in my life.

Understood

The fixture list is a lot more manageable after this month, even if we get past Barcelona in the EL.

The fact the London teams were allowed to play their Premier League games the weekend the Queen died was ridiculous, considering the reason given (all police forces were assigned to London). Either everyone plays or no-one plays in that situation and they fecked it up anyway by having two rounds go unplayed, when it should have been only one when everyone else in the UK was doing it.

So I mainly blame the Premier League for being so fecking stupid (again), over our EL exploits. Thinking they were leading the example whilst everyone else just got on with it and they ended up looking stupid.
