How good was Ryan Giggs?

Rashford is going to crush his goal record but does anyone who watched both of them really think he is close to Giggs as a player?

Individual goal records are often a product of footballing fads, guys like Rashford are strikers on the wing, don't have to or want to take the responsibility to play down the middle, don't really have to work back, just play on the last man.

He better get moving then, he has about 3 months left to score 40+ goals.

Partly? Mostly. Also, why do you need to compare at United? The point is, is their levels are comparable? Only in the eye or a United fan. Ronaldos ceiling wasn't even comparable to Giggs. Longevity? Ronaldo was still top 5 player in the world at 35. Giggs wasn't close (though still good). He did not definitely age better at all. He accepted a part time role that Ronaldo never. Bales ceiling was higher than Giggs, comparing Ronaldo to Giggs is borderline insulting.

You can be as neutral and factual about it as you want, but Giggs was here for United. Ronaldo saw United as a tool to get his goals, which also was why he got to where he (and his mom’s dreams) aimed (Real). But in the end this is a United forum, where we judge what United players did for the club and that is the comparisons here - no doubt Ronaldo’s career was overall the better, but let’s also face it - Ronaldo was and is all about himself. How do you adore someone who’s not about everyone else than himself? That’s also a great deal about the legacy of what you leave United with.

How do you compare the two? Longevity and an eye for the team vs a one-man-team? What are the metrics? On pure stats, sure you can say Ronaldo was just better.

Edit: Also, id say your post is BS. At age 35 or close to (34?) Giggs tore it up. The 7-1 Roma game, man that was maybe even the peak of him. I’ll say you’re completely wrong about that age with Giggs. He aged like fine wine between 30-36. Everytime he took a throw in or got close to the fans, everyone just appreciated him, cheered him - unlike a Rooney who we all just wanted rid of in the end. With Giggs it was different. It was class. Many seasons in a row.

Tore it up? Ronaldos version of tearing up is different to Giggs. Let's not use this terms when they mean different things for different people. Ronaldo at 35 was the star man in an elite team, scoring 40 goals a season. Giggs was very good for his age. He wasn't world class at that age, not really close to world class, although still very good.

Sorry, forgot to address your former point. Giggs in any of his best seasons combined has the same of level as Ronaldo for United. And Ronaldos best years weren't even at United.

Nah Giggs > Ronaldo 2003 to 2006
Ronaldo 2006-2009 > Giggs
