How good was Pablo Aimar?

He was excellent technically and a joy to watch (he just floated), but he was too light (and too brave for his own safety) regarding the treatement he received due to his style and pace...injuries took a toll on him. Of course he was elite and world class, but he still could had a better carreer (even having a pretty great one).

Also he wasn't a player that dedicated mostly to some task, like being a pure organizer, or a box to box a mid that scores a lot, nor constantly putting assists, or passes. His style was a bit of everything with a dinamic approach that got punished too many times due to not having the body type of some dinamic extraordinary 10's had like Sivori, Maradona, Messi or even more forward oriented ones like Aguero, Tevez or Rooney also had.
BTW he wasn't a genius neither, nobody thought of him like the second coming of Diego, the same with Ortega, they were of course CRACKs, excellent players, but not in such realm, it might have been said that he had to fill Diego's shoes in his taks, but not as a true heir, that it's silly.

I always hated that the NT didn't put him next to Riquelme like in some stages in their YNT, that was a perfect combination of the main two types of 10s that mostly are not combined in one body unless you are name is Sivori, Maradona or Messi. I Always thought it was truly worth the risk to find a way to defend and be balanced with both of them in the pitch.

Aimar or Djalminha?
Djalminha for sure. What a player he was. If we look at their Spain-tenures he was more decisive in matches than Aimar, I believe. Won Deportivo the league basically but I don't know if Aimar was that pivotal for Valencia as Djalminha was from 97-2001 for Deportivo. Never seen a single season from Aimar that Djalminha had in 99/00. Guy did all the tricks that Ronaldinho later popularized.

Edit: Just comparing his actions here to Aimar, and I don't even think it's a competition. Djalminha's football IQ was as great as anyones and it was mixed with dare and cheekyness.
