The amount of great songs they have is incredible.

What are you favourites?

There's obviously more but I don't want to post them all.

You can't go basing quality on album sales, then Westlife start to look good.

They're no slouches obviously but for me they're just not quite as good as other bands from in and around that time.

you can base it on album sales upto a point, and the fact that people still go on about zepplin after 30/40 years surely tells you something.

just because there are a few better bands doesn´t take anything away from them as one of the all time greats.

In my time of dying, Bron-yr-Aur are my two favourite songs. Great band.

No Quarter from 'Houses of the Holy':

Elvis picked Trampled Under Foot already, but the live version is even more bad ass:

Edit: I forgot to mention that Stairway to Heaven has to be the most overrated song in history.

Probably my favourite ever band.

Favourite tunes are How Many More Times, Achilles Last Stand, In My Time of Dying and Bring it on Home

about [----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------] that good

Never got into them as much as other bands, can't quite explain why.

Very proficient musicians though, obviously.

Greatest rock band of all time, only bettered by one band for me. The Beatles and in saying that, I still prefer a listen through of Zep than the Beatles, I just accept, appreciate and enjoy the Beatles vast catalogue and more influential effect they had upon popular music.

Like???

Your usual suspects, The Kinks, the late years of the Beatles, the Who, even the Stones. For me anyway.

Can't really say that the Beatles were really the same time as Zeppelin. Beatles finished in 1970 and Zeppelin didn't get big until 71. Kinks didn't really do the same kinda music as them.

If your gonna compare them to bands from the same time look at bands like Black Sabbath, Queen, Deep Purple etc and Zeppelin are way better than them

My favourite band by a landslide. I may love them as much as Lizard King loves his Jim Morrison.

Some of my favourites:

Stones are Number 1 for me. LZ are ridiculously good too.

Never liked the Stones apart from Gimme Shelter, the song, really.
Saw Zeppelin at Knebworth twice just before Bonzo died. They were really superb. I saw The Who at Wembley after Moon died, with Kenny Jones on drums, and they were pretty good but AC/DC had blown them away as the support already.

as someone else said i thought you meant purple, sabbath, queen etc. I love all the bands youve mentioned but only the stones and who competed in the same timeframe imo, beatles broke up, kinks last good album was in 71. Of course its all personal choice but Id rather have zeppelin than teh who.

stones though...mmm...toughie.

Zeppelin fecking rock though.

favourite zeppelin songs?

how many more times, celebration day, what is and what should never be, four sticks, nobody's fault but mine, over the hills, hey hey what can I do, going to california, thats the way, we're gonna groove etc etc etc

I'm watching their concert from 1975 at Earl's Court on youtube. Immense isn't the word.

I wish music nowadays was this good.

Greatest band ever.

Robert Plant is the greatest rock vocalist, too.

You're a lucky guy I take it they were brilliant? Who else did you see that were really big around that time?

Floyd, Who, Genesis, god knows, I'm not really that musical but Led Zep drew me into a strange part of the forum. Best live band I saw were a duo, Medicine Head. Strange, but what's great live doesn't always come across on record.

I envy you! As philis said, I take it they were brilliant?

They were, and having now looked it up, something I'd completely forgotten, Barclay James Harvest didn't make it and came back a few months later to play at a little club in town as an apology - tbing was in the intervening time they had gone from a class 3 band to a class 1, but they still came back. And good they were, too.

In answer to the OP...fecking good. To have such high sales on such a short career with only a few albums speaks volumes.

And something else about the old public hall, in one concert, possibly Zep, they stopped it half way through and said if we didn't stop bouncing they'd have to cancel, 'cos there were council officials watching the roof and it wasn't safe. I think it was actually the truth, we all calmed down a bit anyway.

tangerine
d'yer maker
fool in the rain
hey hey what can I do?
black dog
heartbreaker
misty mountain hop
fool in the rain
bron-y-aur-stomp

and I'll post two of my most favourite.

LOVE Led Zep - "When the levee Breaks" ,"Dazed and confused" and "Since I've been loving you" are amongst my personal faves. :)

Strange, but what's great live doesn't always come across on record.
Yeah a couple of the best live performances I ever saw were from Graham Parker and the Rumour (who? Ed.). I've got a couple of LPs with the tracks they played but they're not that great. The great Van Morrison was fecking shambolic when I saw him live but listen to his great live album 'It's Too Late to Stop Now'.

The are obvioulsy pretty damn good but for some reason they never really did it for me. I liked them rather than loved them. Can't really say why.
