How can we improve to the Lineup Prediction League? Ideas wanted

If you want to improve the retention rate of users in a feature such as this, add reminders 24 hours before a fixture to create an alert. Next time they log in, they're made aware of it without it being as intrusive or off putting as an email every time. That will also catch mobile users who don't scroll to the bottom or open the site in a landscape view to see the prompts.

Of course a feature such as this is only as successful as the return rate of a user in a given time period anyway but a small prompt should improve the usage nonetheless.

Thanks for the feedback and ideas everyone. I'll digest all that and decide what works best for the new season.

Any news about this, @Niall ? Frankly, scoring wasn't a concern of mine, but would love the notification alerts if possible.

And match day thread, pretty please? Game is in 5 days!

I think it would be better if you make Big-Red count it by hand again. Things is worth more when you have to put more effort into them.
 If Niall can give me output in a text file I still have the code for my old system :p

Thumbs up for carry over.

I think there needs a change to the point system so there is more scope for point differences and switching of positions in the league.

As it is, at best you can gain 2 or 3 points over other players.

Bonus points for 11/11, even more and accumulative bonuses for consecutive 11/11's, more points for subs ect ect.

It'll make the league much more exciting if you can gain a load of bonus points in a good month and jump 100 league places rather than just gain 9 points extra and move 12 positions.

It's rolling out tomorrow. I've had my hands full sorting out the new newbie system trial.

LPL improvements are:
  • Alert 24 hours before each match to submit your lineup
  • Carryover previous lineup
  • Extra bonus points for correctly predicting the starting XI
A multiplier for successive correct starting XIs is not done. @Pexbo that may help make it more interesting, I'm open to trying it, but it could go crazy so I went for the safer option this season. Something for 2016/17 perhaps :)

auto assign all users to it, with the weekly lineup set at the previous weeks lineup.

I think this way will keep most users scoring well, with the skill of the game coming from correctly predicting the key changes.

Stupid as it sounds - some form of reminder to actually do it.

That I couldn't possibly miss.

I actually discovered a bug while rolling out the LPL improvements. In some cases bonus points were being incorrectly awarded for predicting the exact subs (i.e. when there were less than 3 subs) :nervous:

I've regenerated the scores for all predictions and thankfully it didn't change the top of the table. But some people's final position may have changed slightly.

Haha. Yeah I had noticed this last season. Instead of bug though, I assumed that bonus points are for predicting exact subs even if not 3 and that is the rule. Maybe different bonus for predicting 2 out of 2 and 3 out of 3. Didn't know it was a bug.

If you predict just 2 subs and those exact 2 subs come on and nobody else, you get 1 bonus point. Predict 1 sub and only that one comes on, 2 bonus points.

The problem was it was sometimes awarding those bonus points when it shouldn't have.

Oh OK.

This is orobably more appropriate here:

The lineup predictions image still has ADM and Rafael on there :p

@Niall I do not know if this has been mentioned, but having the line-up preselected either according to ones previous selection or the actual selection from the last game will probably make me participate more as I am too lazy to click 13 names...

Yeah that was on the feature list but I didn't have time to do it. If that changes I'll add it.

When you check a starters name off they still can be selected as subs.

You can pick one player as a starter and as a sub.

I only had a quick look but not sure if I got all the points for players on the bench?
