Television House of the Dragon (GoT Prequel) - No book spoilers allowed

Why didn't she burn them?! FFS!!

Really good episode & they really built the tension leading up to the coronation well.

Criston is an absolute cnut. I hope his demise is painful.

That was really good again.

what the hell is that building though? I mean it has the dragon pits underneath and they use it for coronations and shit? Also yer wan killing half the room just to take her dragon, gotta admire that level of no shite given.

It's the Dragonpit - definitely the structure with the largest attendance capacity in King's Landing if not all of Westeros because there's so much space for dragon training on the top level. We've seen it before; this is where Aemond was presented with the so called Pink Dread.

Why didnt she burn them all arghfjjfjjfjfjj

Kinslaying is a big big big fecking deal in this world - it's more than anything why Alicent is so shocked that Larys killed his father and brother earlier this season. It's considered a cursed action of the lowest of the low - so it makes some sense that Rhaenys wouldn't be keen to essentially push the nuclear button at that point.

I do wonder, did I miss the episode where Ser Criston gets his license to kill indiscriminately?

She won me over this episode. Not with her lower extremities (not for me but I won’t kink shame) - it was the way she delivered the line to Aegon, “You imbecile”.

Agreed. I was missing the younger actress but Cooke was great in this one. It helps that she had something to do beyond whining about Rhaenyra.

It's funny how in a show with incest, rape and child marriages, a foot fetish scene has weirded people put so much.

Ser Incel Cole

Ironically his problem is that he's not celibate thanks to her. The In-uncel.

'And for the record, I might be a homophobe, but I'm no oathbreaker'

Who said that?

I do wonder, did I miss the episode where Ser Criston gets his license to kill indiscriminately?

I think he got away with it once when Viserys was king because he let alot go and Alicent probably talked him into giving him the benefit of the doubt (he could have claimed the guy attacked him). This time its clear the law has broken down and people are doing whatever they want.

People losing their shit over a foot fetish scene

It’s literally been a decade of incest on these shows

This is the best thing on TV btw

You ain't convincing me that Alicent is the mother of those two.... I mean, come on. That's some wild casting. They look the same age!

They pretty much are. 28, 27 and 25 according to Professor Google.

Quite ironic that a Lannister was the only one with any honour at the council.

Just caught up with the show over 3 days! Episode 8 and Paddy, wow... Every scene with him had me absolutely on the verge of emotional breakdown. Outstanding performance. Very very good HBO. Though I will say, they cannot hang their hat on the drama around throne succession all the time, lets move it on a little. The intrigue around the white walkers in GoT definitely helped break it up.

Thinking a bit about timing - was the end of last episode the same night as the dinner? If so, wouldn't most of Rhaenrys' retinue still be asleep in the keep somewhere? Didnt' she say she was going to stick around for a bit with Alicent at the very end of the evening?

Did they all hop on dragons at night and head home? Seems a bit odd.

Iirc, Alicent asked Rhaenyra to stay and she said she had to see the kids off and would come back afterwards so maybe they did.

So who do we think killed the King…

The actor of the lord refusing to support Aegon played Sophie's dad in Peep Show.

It was a mash up between a line in Peep Show and his line in HotD. In PS is was 'I'm no badger baiter', HotD 'I'm no oath breaker'

Ahhh of course that’s who he is, couldn’t quite put my finger on it.

Anywho, good episode with lots of scheming. That said, I kind of expected more. I thought they’d go all out for good ol’ ep 9

How does cole manage to avoid repercussions for casually murdering people ?

And his victims are clearly noblemen who are above his station.

Think White Cloaks are meant to be impeachable to an extent, but yeah agree that he just seems to be able to lose his temper at any time and do a kill without anyone batting an eyelid.

Who is supposed to deliver those repercussions? Just being in the kingsguard offers a certain amount of protection and beyond that he's the Queen's pet knight and the Queen (along with her father) has been the de facto ruler since the king became severely ill. As long as they don't have a problem with it he's fine.

What I don't get is the Commander essentially told him 'you're done, take off your cloak' - then they had a little face off and it was all forgotton about :D

Who will punish him? Anybody that would have power basically said lets just continue and nobody leaves.

The throne.... dont worry revenge is taken on the throne years later by Drogon

Rhaenyra was gonna go home. She said something about having a dragon so she an come back after the kids get home and basically visit.
So I believe it was the same night, the party of Rhaenyra left.
interesting to see what happens when she does come back because all of a sudden theres a new king.

The commander quit though. And then Cole was promoted

What would they do for season 2? I'd rather they just didn't have that scene cos it's more infuriating

What i found more disappointing was that they deviated from the source material just to give us a "wow" moment. Like: "The last two episodes are heavy on dialogue, we should fit a dragon scene in there". It was infuriating because they could still have made it work with the desired result. By building Rhaenys toward this moment instead of having her in the background all the time, and by taking the time to delve into the lore of the world. They occasionally wink at those familiar with the canon with their choices, but this one needed a much better explanation. And, tbf, they can still do it in the next episode in which, i suppose, Rhaenys will meet Rhaenyra/Daemon. Nevertheless, it shouldn't have come to that.

Ah I see maybe I zoned out at that part. Seems an easy way to win a promotion.
Haha, but only cos a coup was going on that Ser Harrold resigned. Kinda lucked his way into it (which is funny cos thats whats happening in England it seems)
The hand asking him to go and kill people was the final straw

Speaking of the hand, his daughter should be dubbed 'the foot'.

It wasn't forgotten about. The commander himself quit, at least until a new king is appointed. And the new king might not want him as LC. So there isn't anyone to impeach Cole for his actions seeing as how he's essentially doing the Hightowers' bidding.

To be fair Westerling did batt an eyelid and confronted him.

Should have ended the episode on Aegon's coronation. The Rhaenys moment ranks there with one of the stupidest things I've seen in GOT and that's saying something.

Now that's an unpopular opinion that's stands out in this thread.
