Herrera confirms his departure

Gutted. And now we need three midfielders in to replace him, Fellaini and Matic. If Pogba goes, we need four.

Best of luck to him and I hope I still get to watch him play in the future. Probably my favorite United players of the last several years, so it is a sad day for me. :(

He'll win PSG the Champions League if that's where he chooses to go. A proper player for us, just a shame his time here has coincided with us being a joke team.

Trading the EL and a big rebuild for CL football and league title and cup medals. What an idiot.

Didn't say it was a bad move for him, just saying all the talk of his duty and loyalty to club comes off as disingenuous and overstated when he's out the door after the first sign of outside interest

Other players get slated for just being linked to moves, just looking for some consistensy

Seems he cared more about money than 'loyalty' after all if he's trading the club for a few extra quid and a place on P$G's bench

He was a decent player on his day but I don't see him being a monumental loss as some are making it out to be. He's a limited player on the pitch who makes it up with effort but also could be infuriating at times with all the back passing and lack of contributions in the final third.

A few good games always seemed to gloss over his average play during the season and his 'passion' gave him a long leesh with some fans.

He's a shithouse footballer with the antics but I guess he was our shithouse which endeared him to fans and made him hated by rivals.

We'll probably be better off being able to upgrade and getting a deep lying playmaker in tbh

The clowns we hired couldnt use him well and here we are blaming his averageness as a midfielder. Tuchel will use him to play high pressing football in opponents half and suck the life out of the opponents while we were busy parking the bus in our own half or playing a rigid football.

This is just disgraceful, one of the only players we have who actually get and love the club and we let him walk out the door for nothing.

Absolutely pathetic by the board and this is one of the reasons why we are now a midtable club.

Pathetic

You offered him a multi million pound contract that he rejected.

He does not love you as much as you seem to think.

Not good to lose lose one of the few players in the squad with the right attitude but hopefully a sign we'll no longer be held to ransom in wages offered.

Sad to see him go, always put in 100% and was a big game player. Speaks volumes of the state we're in where we let this guy walk but extend the likes of Young, Jones, Smalling etc.

All the best.

He is the only player whose contract is running out that I thought was worth a renewal.

He will probably end up being the only one that leaves.

That’s overstating his ability. Verratti is in a different class, and if we’re honest, a whole bunch of players are a level above.

Loved him here though!

Thanks for five good years, Ander.

Hope it works out for you, wherever you go and you earn a good pension pot for the future.

Well we know and PSG fans will know it’s a nice earner for him. His heart is in Bilbao

Thank you Ander. Always gave 110% in every game and that's all the supporters can ask for. A vital cog in our midfield and you will be missed.

Thanks Ander

One down,at least ten to go.Finally club started getting rid of these mediocre players.Of course he should not be the first one to leave but we need to start from somewhere, now rebuild.

He is a player who not one top team would come near if he wasnt for free and for PSG ffp problems he seems like a right buy, probably will sign another midfielder because of Rabiot leaving,Diarra retirement.

Stop overrating him,he cant even shoot or run with the ball, not a first team level we should be aiming for certain, and not worth of said money.

Why should players be loyal, they should think about themselves and their families first. Sorry the fans are quite happy to hand out terrible abuse when they feel like it, some uncalled for, so why should players feel untold loyalty to fans any longer? Times have changed.

Best of luck to him and thanks for the memories.

What are the odds on both Mata and DDG also saying adios this summer? I put it at very high.

Exit videos. :wenger:

Best of luck to him anyway. While I wasn't really a fan of him as the starting #8, he was great to have in the squad.

Again,I have nothing against his decision, it's his right to look out for his families financial well being.

My issue is just all the talk pontifying him as some sort of club legend or martyr after the fact because he played hard. Darren Fletcher also played hard and won things but he never got the same kind of adulation.

He was a solid squad player, nothing more, nothing less. His loss isn't catastrophic as many are making it out to be

What disappoints me about the fan reaction to this is those who seemingly have no understanding of what love for your football club is. Just because Herrera had good workrate, was a master of shithousery, and has now made a sycophantic farewell video, but that doesn’t mean he loves United.

Love is being on a zero hours, minimum wage job and prioritising renewing your season ticket some how, some way each spring.

Love is travelling around the country on evenings and weekends to support the team, neglecting your friends and family.

Love is watching each and every game, even if that means waking up in the middle of the night, because you consider it to not be a choice.

Love is spending ridiculous amounts of money to travel around Europe because you cannot put a value on the feeling of winning a big trophy or moments like in Paris.

Love is having one of the greatest club sides ever seen currently, playing in your city and choosing to pay to watch another disappointment at Old Trafford.

Love for your football club is making objectively bad decisions, irrational choices, all because you value something so highly that outsiders will never see.

Love would be wanting to stay and dismissing any notion of being undervalued, because wearing the red shit is the greatest honour of all.

Love would be overlooking the even greater wages on offer elsewhere, because if you weren’t currently being paid to wear the shirt, you’d be paying to watch it.

Love would be accepting lesser job security because one more game for United would be worth 20 years elsewhere.

Herrera doesn’t love United. Virtually nobody loves their employers: there’s no shame in that. Like essentially everyone else, Herrera’s electing to move to a job where he’s offered better pay, greater security and feels more valued. Most of us would make the rational decision with our head that he has. I doubt most of us would claim to love our employers though.

He might have grown fond for United. He may have anxiety at leaving. But don’t insult those of us who love United by claiming that Herrera does.

If we offered him a deal a year ago, when we told him we were taking our fifth year option I reckon he would have signed it. Now he's going for a long contract and a good job and I can't begrudge him that.

Equally I do see why United didn't offer him a renewal 18 months ago. He wasn't an automatic first choice, he's had a few injuries and he was coming up to the magic 30. You win some, you lose some when you make gambles like that.

I am going to fulfill the year that I have but don’t know if I will renew. We have started talking but nothing has been decided.

He was offered a contract at least in April last year.. I feel bad that he’s leaving but probably best for both parties.. We desperately need to fix our wage structure..

Maybe the plan is to replace him with a younger player?

Real shame to see him leave, as he brought a lot to the team. It is sad, how quickly United fans have turned on him, and started down playing his ability. He went from discussions about how he was a required part of the team, and a key part in allowing Pogba be at his best. To just an average player who wasn't really that good.

In the end, while we can replace him, it means we won't be bringing in another player which is required to strengthen the team.

I wish his all the best, and have to say for himself personally I think he has made the right decision. Secured a higher income over a longer period, in what is likely his last big contract. Plus he will likely win some medals which is unlikely to happen here in the next few years.

You offered him a multi million pound contract that he rejected.

He does not love you as much as you seem to think.
Duffer with the truth nuke. He's a good talker is Ander. Could be a politician in the future.

I would have certainly kept him around before others, but not on the terms he wanted. However, I've never been convinced he loves us as much as he intimated.
He does talk a good game though:lol:

If we're building towards a high-pressing side for next season, he'll be sorely missed. He could be a part of such a team's backbone. If we're going to see a low-block defence in which the defensive shape is prioritized, we could do better. But i'm not sure we will.

Its ok because we extended the contracts of the likes of young, jones and smalling.....clueless

I get he wanted a higher wage that we were not prepared to pay, but when you see what Sanchez is earning and his contribution what do you expect.

This is everything what is wrong with this club.

Best of luck to him and thanks for the memories.

What are the odds on both Mata and DDG also saying adios this summer? I put it at very high.
100% agree. Mata is for sure off, and De Gea will go as well. 1 year left on his contract, out of form, his best mates have gone and the club wont challenge in the next 2-3 years.

I think in terms of the club being a shambles letting Ander leave on a free 15 or so months after handing Sanchez his contract speaks volumes.

There is no defending this. We now have less quality and zero intelligence to our midfield, and need to buy a replacent. Brilliant.

At the end, we will sell Pogba, De gea and Herrera and keep Young, Jones, Rojo, Lingard....
I think that Ed and Ole need to learn what rebuilding means:wenger:

His loss isn't catastrophic as many are making it out to be

It is. We already lost form and got dumped out of top 4 with him being out, and then letting him go on a free while not having the ability and power to replace him with a new top midfielder when we needed to replace 2 midfielders already sabotaging our squad depth and defensive solidity for next season.

If we fail to have this window, we won't qualify for top 4 next season too. And it is catastrophic already.

Don't worry lads. We renewed Phil Jones and Ashley Young. The fecking state of my club. We'll miss Herrera massively.

He is not english with shite attitude so he has to leave surely. Club is a mess, players like these we should keep play with all he has, but how when we renewed to the likes of Smalling, Jones and fecking Young.

Well we know and PSG fans will know it’s a nice earner for him. His heart is in Bilbao

He's a professional, his heart maybe in Bilbao, but his retirement funds comes from us and whoever he goes to.

People whose heart and earning are in the same place are few and far between.

Personally, I never minded Rooney's heart being blue, he gave his all for us and so has Ander.
