Herrera confirms his departure

Exactly. The club evidently had absolutely no issues with Herrera whatsoever, hence why they posted his leaving message on our social media account. As you say, whether he was good enough or not was irrelevant.
Yep. It’s one thing saying you don’t rate him and a completely separate thing to abuse him for leaving. It’s like the world we live in is binary. He left for a better contract so he must be a money grabbing sob who never loved the club. When it is also completely possible that he did love/enjoy his time at the club but he did what’s best for him and his family. feck sakes, we’d all do the same.

In the same time some players who flert with other clubs and don't act professional at all are treated like saints.
Yeah, it’s a weird phenomenon. Or maybe not so weird actually. Clubs release players or don’t extend their contracts all the time. But the moment a player does what’s best for his future, he gets abused. Apparently loyalty is a 1 way street. And players are only idolized if they’re deemed good enough. Then they’re forgiven for just about anything. The rest are disposable.

Footballer will always say what the fans of their new club want to hear. It does not mean they don't respect the fans of previous clubs or don't have affection for that club. Don't be so sensitive. I am sure we will sign new players who will big up this club and fans and annoy their previous clubs fans.

What a silver-tongued devil. I'd be angry if all he had ever done at United was come out with these kind of words, but I liked him as a player and regret his departure.

He knows how to become a fan favourite, keeps repeating same things, praising fans etc.
But its a normal, professional thing to do and say but it has been so overrated in here.
Just like you say he gave his all,but his all was never and would never be good enough in our past, just like present and for certain in our future when he is player of age of 30 and relying on his so called passion, workrate. He was a part of our decline in recent years and for one season was a bit better than the bunch of other mediocre players just like Shaw this season(POTY).

He was brought in and supposed to also bring some Spanish playmaking skills with also his tenacity, passion and help us in creating chances but never did that and failed in that department, supposed to be a attacking box to box player but was converted to a defensive role because he didnt realise his potential in more attacking one.He was better than some other signings for sure but not a player we should be moaning about leaving because we did not give him a 5 year contract at the age of 30.
You don't know much about what kind of player he is.

Also imagine how the Atletico fans are feeling over Griezmann, flirting with us last season, now supposedly off to Barca. Now that is somebody who would p*ss me off.

Of all the player politics we see at our club in recent years and this is where they take issue? This is likely his last big contract. He'd already been at the club for 3.5 years and seen the likes of Rojo get a new deal with him, Young, Matic and Fred being paid 50% more than he, and being notified of his renewal by post. The bloke has been completely committed for the last 5 years, and if someone else wants to pay him substantially more then so be it.

Yeah we really messed up his extension. Should have been done when he won ManUtd player of the year award.

This, was one of a my favourites while he was here and good luck to him. But it's become apparent that he's a massive flatterer.

Don't think this has anything to do with respect, just that people believed he loved the club/fans when he talked well, now not even a day and he praised PSG fans. Maybe he is very good at this. Some players really knows how to talk.

Loved him as a player though but all the "he gets it, loves the club" might be bit OTT.

I might be completely wrong here btw.

The question is why is Psg paying him that much?
Because they haven't had to pay a fee. They have limitless funds, so in a way they now have to hope he performs, I hope he does, which will also make me sad. If he doesn't they have a player on a long contract, but very high wages, who I presume they could sell for a fee and with the funds could subsidise his wages. Also unfortunately he might find their fans are nowhere near as nice as ours.

It's not a bad deal when you consider that a similar quality player would have probably cost £30m or more. Perhaps it was necessary for them to offer that much to tempt him away.

Sorry?

By all accounts Herrera had a contract on the table for over 18 months and chose not to sign it before he tried to hold us ransom for a ridiculous contract for a 30 year old.

He can get fecked for all I care. The bullshit he went on with to try and get fans to lap it up, whiles he gone and signed for the most ridiculous club in world football. He's no different to Tevez and the bullshit he tried to pull at the end when Fergie wouldnt sing him.

He doesn't give a shit about United or anybody else.
I see you would you accept s*it as a wage compared to your peers.........

Free transfer.Look at Ramsey, good player but not worth that contract what Juventus gave him.

Notice the similarities with our and Arsenal's board here?. I think they both will prove to be even better players than they were at these clubs when used to their strengths.

You can’t blame him - 5 year contract on a lot more than we would pay him.

Will he start at PSG? Herrera, Verratti with Parades?

Yeah, that's a too good contract to turn down. Wages isn't the problem but length. Good for him, will be earning very good wage for 5 years and few millions in bonus too.

By the time he finishes he will be able to buy Real Zaragoza, nevermind play for them.

Doubt it. Would say he’s a rotation option. Mostly the same as he was here for the vast majority of his time.

The comparison between when he played and when he was absent was night and day. People never seemed to be able to accept that, although he may have been brought in for his attacking ability, it's his defensive play that really shined. Not to draw direct comparisons but to use as an example: Kantes lack of playmaking ability is never called into question because his workrate and defensive tenacity are the two key facets he brings to his team. Herrera was the same. Statistically he was as good as anyone in that role over the last 5 years, but people always want to judge him on his attacking player. The fact he contributes far more than other players playing a similar role to him is forgotten.

Maybe, but for a certain League winner, probably cup winner and CL challenger. United are nowhere near that and won't be for a while. Maybe he wanted some more medals before he retires. This lad will also take the trouble to learn the language unlike some.

I can't imagine anyone posting here wouldn't feel similarly aggrieved if they were in his situation.

Agreed. It was a no brainier move for him.

I'd love to see all the people on here criticizing him turn down that kind of pay rise. Wasn't the most technically gifted but always gave a professional performance. Wish him the best of luck in Paris.

The amount of abuse our players and managers get for speaking honestly, and when someone does play it by the book we want to abuse him too? When have we ever heard a bad word spoken about Herrera from this club or previous ones? He's a consummate professional, good luck to the lad.
No I dont get what people see wrong with what he did. This is on us. Like him a lot, hope he does well.

Ah, if only this logic could be used for pretty much any United player that gets abused becuase they don't act or think like we do

crazy contract, and gets to live in paris. fresh croissants and hot chocolate every morning straight from local cafe & bakery. fecking dream land for him & his family

As it stands we are but there's still time to get a replacement in.
The options are getting smaller and the top quality just don't want to come to us. As I have said before things a coming home to roost. Sean Longstaff, fine as a squad option, but a starter?

The comparasion between him absent and not is where I dont agree because you are indirectly comparing him,his ability to players like Pereira,Mctominay who are relatively young and doesnt have experience or minutes he has in football nor was good enough to be first team players for certainly at that stage of the season.

He was good enough at some periods of his time here but in recent period where we had midfielders consisting of we all know their names he was an ok choice but better is urgently needed if we want to get back to higher level of performance and result.

We will see how will he perform for PSG.

I still feel there's still plenty of business for us to do, we will still be looking at players to sell and find options to replace them with, not just one option either, that list has to be 3 players minimum.

If we are trying to get rid of some of these players first we are in real trouble.
