Henry back to Arsenal - loan looking likely

I'm not disputing that. He's clearly a much better striker and first choice right now.

Best explained here:

A striker's confidence is hugely important but it's also a delicate thing. If van Persie feels he's not the darling of the Arsenal crowd any more or feels like he doesn't have the same stature in the changing room that he has enjoyed for the last couple of years it could well effect his game.

Like I said, I'm just speculating on something that might be way off the mark. I'm just going by how a few players blossomed when he left and I remember Fabregas hinting at everyone breathing a little easier and having the space to grow once he left.

Like I explained above, I'm not talking about play time and being the main striker. I'm talking about not ruining the dynamic of the changing room and allowing van Persie to remain the one that they all look to.

No offence, but that's a lot of cack. Even RvP knows that we need some quality cover. Quality means that they may be as good as you are so you better play out of your skin each game or else. That's healthy competition. If he can't hack that then he should be fecked off...but he can, so he won't.

I'm not talking about competition for places, quite clearly. I'm talking about a man with an ego they had to build a whole new stadium to accommodate.

He's not half the player he was but he still carries the aura of his own legend.

I have a feeling you are missing my point completely in order to avoid saying anything negative about your messiah.

If you can't enjoy a bit of melodrama in football then psschhh.

I thought it was all great. Panto an milked to feck, but that's exactly what the crowd wanted.

Grinchy bastards.

We built the Emirates to accomodate Henry...righto!

Do you write for The Grauniad?

Each to their own. I thought it was embarrassing. Had to flick channels in a hurry at the end, to stop my toes curling through the top of my shoes.

I still enjoy watching football. A lot. What a kerazzy contradiction, eh?

good to see Scholes and Henry take part in this FA Cup 3rd round

hopefully Marc Overmars and Eric Cantona have their shooting boots with them in prevision of the next round

Yes, I was literally saying that the only reason they built the emirates was so Henry could figuratively squeeze his ego into somewhere as it had grown too big for Highbury.

Do you have any comments on the point I am actually making or are you going to keep deliberately avoiding it? I have a feeling a sarcastic remark on an insult will be a more likely reply than a constructed opinion but I'll wait and see all the same.

Look, I'm not really that bothered. You are making some rubbish point about RvP being a fragile thing about to be sent over the precipice of depression because we've signed a proven goalscorer as cover while we lose some players, have an injury crisis, and have lots of important games coming up.

Perhaps you might be overthinking this. Should we have gone for Robbie Keane instead?

I'm not calling van Persie fragile at all. I'm simply saying that Henry and the god like aura he carries might not be too good for the changing room dynamic when he's not even close to half the player he used to be.

The proven goalscorer managed 4 goals in 32 appearances in his last season in a top quality league while playing for Barcelona with the likes craft of Xavi and Iniesta behind him.

If you disagree, I have no problem with that. I've said I may be well wide of the mark but I think it's going to be very interesting watching the dynamics of the squad while he is there.

They could have signed a player of equal ability to Henry that would have offered the same option with none of the baggage that comes with him. Just my humble opinion.

That touch and finish was absolute class. One of the nice moments of football this season along with Scholes turning up to play City.

From what I heard he was absolutely knackered after 20 mins or so. Doesn't bode well when he is playing in the PL.

I think you are reading too much into the situation and assuming far too much.

I want your Zola back too. As humble as he was talented. Wouldn't catch him throwing Jesus Christ shapes in the centre circle after beating a lower league team.

Jesus Christ lighten up a bit mate.

A club legend returns and subsequently scores the winner in front of the home crowd - a few weeks after he had a statue unveiled of himself forever placing him amongst the legends of our club... Clearly emotions were running high.

If Ronaldo ever rejoins the club, and scores the winner in his first game back I bet you lot will be jizzing all over yourselves at his celebration... And quite rightly too!

Van Persie sounds genuine happy on twitter though.

It's only for 7 weeks, then he will return to MSL. Until then, it will be a honeymoon for Henry, the club, the fans and the squad, not enough time for people associated with the club to get annoyed with him.

It's not the celebration, it's the 5 minutes after the game he spent lapping up the fans applause.

Let's get some perspective here. He was a club legend for you, and at 34 years old has returned to "help the club out" much like Scholes has for us. He scored a goal against Championship opposition in the 3rd Round of the FA Cup, does he really need to create this huge "Henry Show" after the game because of it?

I'd happily bet my right testical that if Scholes scored the winner against City on Sunday he'd have dyed his hair black and worn a fake moustache if it meant he could have got out of the stadium unnoticed at the end of the game.

It was one of the cringiest things I've ever seen.

I'm sure that if Giggs was milking the occasion like Henry did, you would think it was cringeworthy as well.

That's ok, it only means you like players like Scholes who get on with things and keep their feet on the ground, so be it.

Try to understand that some players like Henry like to entertain people and put on a show. If it's not your cup of tea, fine, but don't hiss out your disapproval all the time. We get it now.

"Now I know what it feels like to score as a fan" - says it all really.

Are you telling me you wouldn't go around lapping up every single second of being the match-winning goalscorer, playing for the club you love in front of the fans that worship you?

It was a special moment no matter who we were playing against... Seriously some of you lost must be void of personality. And I bet my right testie that if Cantona ever came back to United near the end, and did that he'd be lapping every single second of it up, and so would you.

Turned out to be a good move, rather than tainting his legend he has just increased it. Well done Henry, nice to see a player show so much love and respect for his old club and gaffer.

You won't be winning the Irish vote if you keep up with that attitude you lousy pirate.

Good signing, in terms of impact probably similar to our move for Larsson – I think Larsson started more games, but Henry scored two crucial goals - and of course Henry was an arsenal legend and a boost to the fans to see him back.

Fairytale stuff, wins the cup tie against Leeds, cameo last-at-Arsenal v Blackburn, sign off with a 91st-minute winner. Ole.
