Thought he'd be poor against Barca and disappointed to be right. It's pretty straight forward with Mkhi, when he has loads of space and time on the ball to think he's great. When he doesn't have this time to think he's very poor. He'll do well against teams that sit back imo. Against high pressing teams I think he'll struggle. Really hope he can improve because frankly this isn't enough from a player with his ability

Must admit that I am disappointed by Mkhi so far. I thought we signed a playmaker \ wide playmaker in the level just beneath the elite bracket.

So far he has done nothing to show he is at that level, rather tier 3 at best.

This guy worries me. His top form has been against rubbish sides (bar spurs) and he could barely control a ball in every big game he played (yes he scored one in a performance that topped even his game vs City in terms of rubbishness). I mean his lower level really is maybe even worse than when Rooney's in pub level form. Did not expect that.

Not good enough, playing 1 good game then going missing for 8 or 9 is not going to cut it.

He's crucial because we don't have many players who tick the prime age, experience and ability boxes. There's probably only him and Mata who do.

So if he doesn't show up like last season we're instead depending on younger, more inconsistent guys or players who just aren't good enough.

it's as simple as this

his performances along with Martial and Mata are going to be crucial in turning a 5/6th place finish into title challenge

after a poor first year at Dortmund I think he stepped it up in Year 2 so hopefully he finds his form

In most of the big games we played defensively and looked to utilize counter attacking style and i guess Jose gave him role to beat his man and start the counter where most of the time he loses the ball. We saw his best when Mata was playing on RW as they both play one touch give and goes. We need similar player who gives a pass and move into space to get the best out of Micky with Zlatan very rarely running behind defenses last season didn't help his cause much. Now that we have Lukaku & Rashford (if he plays on RW) I think he will be much better this season.

I want Perisic for one of this reason as he will stay wide and run behind defenders which will allow space to micky & get the best out of him.

Another season to prove himself. Then no dawdling around with excuses please

His second season with Dortmund was actually awful.
fwiw I think he is going to improve for you guys this season though.

He will score goals and even assists too but he is far too inconsistent. If he is consistent,I can easily see him scoring 15 to 20 goals and 10 plus assists which will be a very good return but he has to be consistent. Frustrating when he just runs straight at a player and is easily dispossessed. I am not sure how much patience can jose have with our attackers. Mata , mkhi and martial when in form can play some devastating football but most of the times all the three are inconsistent and that is a worry for us.

He's so good when it clicks for him, but he's so inconsistent it kills me. His touch comes and goes way too much for someone who plays primarily through the middle of the park where close control is necessary. I hope we see more consistency from him this year as we'll badly need the creativity he does bring when on song.

Squad player now Matic's arrival means we will use 4-3-3 a lot. Just too many players competing for a small number of places. Mkhitaryan had a much better chance of 25+ PL starts had we used 4-2-3-1 with the opportunity to play no 10 or wide right. Likely to be a lot of rotation unless we see several departures before the end of the transfer window.

I think his productivity will improve massively this season (in the league particularly), but I'm afraid his tendency to drift in and out of games is here to stay.

He doesn't seem very intelligent. You can see in some games he doesn't appreciate how soon he'll be under pressure while in possession and will get dispossessed.

You think he'd realise in the game but it seems like he doesn't and continues in the same vein all game long.

Looks set to have an identical season to last - inconsistent and not good enough.

His lack of awareness of what's going on around him is a killer for a player who is supposedly a number 10. Even more so when combined with an inconsistent touch. I wonder if we'd be better off giving him more games out wide? He put in a great cross for Fellaini's goal.

I'm feeling another Nani situation developing here. All the talent in the world, but just doesn't bring it together game after game.

Hopefully, if we get more runners in the team with Perisic and Lukaku, it'll help him thrive.

He's had an up and down pre-season, he blows hot and cold even in the same game sometimes, the Nani comparissons aren't a 100miles from the truth so far.
I don't agree he's poor against top sides and good vs poor teams, he played really well against Spurs for example, and yesterday, I don't think anyone would class the opposition as decent, yet still was very poor.

It's a shame, because when he's on.. he lights it up. Hopefully he can gain better consistency this season as it goes, lets not all write him off just yet.

Was obvious from last season, he's a nice enough player to watch at times but never someone you'd want the team to have to depend on in any way really. If he's going to be our primary creative force this season then it's probably safe to say we'll be having another frustrating year going forward.

People need to listen and need to show respect to @Slevs about his Armenian prince because Slevs will say some disturbing things to you otherwise just ask @Marksy7 .

I like him a lot and don't mean to sound pessimistic but I'm expecting another so-so season and him being sold next summer.

I just don't think he has the consistency needed to nail down a starting 11 position permanently. I can see 6-10 goals this season, mainly in cup competitions, and a few assists....then him being sold and it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if Dortmund bought him back a la Kagawa.

Just that Kagawa wasnt playing and Mkhi is a starter for us. Compring him to Kagawa is weird, Kagawa didnt play much for us since Fergie left, while Mkhi is starting. And he is also the better player. We could sell Mata, who himself blows hot and cold too.
Maybe it is not the players that are shit, but the system, or both. Or we only can
play with wingers on the wing and not some half playmakers turned into wingers

To me his problem is actually the -opposite - of Mata's, who, as much as I like the guy and his end-product (goal wise, mind, is overrated on the Caf

While Mkhi is fast, direct, can pierce through the opposition's defensive layers, he has little awareness and gives away the ball to easily.

Mata, on the other hand, is slow, simply cannot beat a man, plays infinte curved sideways balls while in possession, but is much more consistent, almost never gives the ball away, and knows what is around him.

Weird that the two are compared that much imho

That would surprise me, didn't leave on the best of terms.

I think him and Mata are used in the wrong way. They play quite similar roles but I'm positive they can work together. He should be used more as an attacker and less as a midfielder. When he's faced towards goal and the tempo is really high there are few players out there who can stop him. When we play a possession based football he will not be as effective but still fine.

I'd like to see him get on the ball more and kind of dictate in that second striker position, but in terms of chances, he's been a massive goal threat. Unlucky not to have a hat trick. Made some nice runs in the box, and took his goal very well.

The second header which was saved was a better one than the one he scored.

I doubt the xG on those two headers he failed to scored, added up to 1.0 (expected goal). Translation: the expected goals models attempt to show the probability of scoring from that type of opportunity (header from a cross) from that position on the pitch. Not a perfect model (in reality there are several different but similar models) but generally decent over the long run, can be horribly flawed for one single shot/header and currently don't take into account the skill-set of the player involved.

Strange 45 mins, 3 headed chances. I can't imagine we will see a repeat.

Great performance in 45 minutes.

If we go by stats, he has been the most productive player in the preseason, 3 goals and 3 assists.
