Help build a truly upbeat thread about the club.

So this is what it's come to? A thread where we lie to ourselves for our own mental security. Wow, this might be more depressing than the rest of the threads.
There's always one miserable SOB isn't there

Amorim didn’t want to come until the summer. Part of that may have been because he didn’t want to leave Sporting in the crap. He might also have seen exactly this coming. It would have been much better to come in the summer, sign a few players he thought suited the system and then gone from there.

We’ve got a guy playing LWB who can’t use his left foot. If Dorgu is even half decent then our left hand side will be so much more effective. Dalot can then try RWB and stop Maz from playing there where he’s much less impressive than at RCB.

We’ve not permanently got rid of anyone but at least we’ve got some of the dead wood out on loan. This at least shows willingness to clear up and hopefully it’ll be the same in the summer.

This season is a right off. If we can go on a bit of a cup run then great. Either Amorim knows exactly what he’s doing or he’s a genius who’s given himself the best excuse ever. I’ll wait until next season before even starting to despair.

Although I hate 3-4-3, or 5-3-2 with so many defenders on the pitch, I like Amorim and I'm hopeful he'll turn it around. We're getting rid of the overpaid dross, slowly but surely. There's a good chance we won't get relegated. The squad is young and one would think they're bound to improve at some point.

If we ignore the awful LVG-like football and the humiliating home defeats to whoever turns up at OT, we can chose be hopeful. What else is there to do?
We have seen that the 5-3-2 part (as defined by the more defensive set-up) is actually pretty effective and difficult to break down - see City (A), Liverpool (A), Arsenal (A).

We know that the problem is breaking down low-blocks and controlling games with the '3-4-3'...but, as I always, always bang on about...coaching a defensive setup is much, much easier than coaching an attacking setup...so it's bound to take time, especially with so many young / inexperienced players

Things that cheer me are that the youth teams are doing well and there is a lot of promise there.

January transfer window closed with Antony elsewhere and both Garnacho and Mainoo still at the club.

Most of this summer’s signing show promise with Ugarte a bright side of the season so far.

A likeable manager.

Amad.

I’m pretty sure that ineous knew things would get worse and would take a number of years to sort out. I know there aren’t any replacements sorted but ultimately I do not care. Rather play the kids. Next year Ericsson lindelof will be gone hopefully Casemiro and Rashford too, that’s a lot of possibilities to open. Future is bright I reckon

Those 2 are not mutually exclusive, we havn't been very good at breaking down low-blocks no matter what formation we've used in the last decade

We have Amad. We are targeting top tier youth prospects and young players as our main targets (good). We have some exciting youth players coming through the academy now. Amorim is far more astute in how he analyzes issues and tweaks the team (yes I know the results don’t show it).

Oh, and we seem better at negotiating under the new regime.

I’m a fan of the reset we are trying to do under Amorim. It’s clear the clubs a complete mess. It’d of been easy for him to pander to the likes of Rashford.

Thank you OP for this. I share your feelings and sympathize. Redcafe used to be really good, would spend hours lurking here. Nowadays it's mostly negative posts repeated x1000.

As for the positives I've seen:

- I'm happy we have a coach that realizes our current standards are unacceptable and IMO is doing the best he can with a very poorly dealt hand. He's been honest and has integrity.
- We are playing more as a team.
- We have football men making decisions upstairs (No more Ed, Matt Judge, Murtough).
- Under performing players are dropped/moved on.

I feel we are moving in the right direction, and understand it will take time to undo the current mess.

We still have ressources other teams don't have. A huge fanbase nurtured from a great history, while playing in the most appealing league.

As long as we get our recruitment right and are able to set professional standards in the club and first team, we will eventually be able to play with the big boys again.

That is arguably Amorims first 11 for the rest of the season.

Look at how young that team is, nothing can replace the development and experience that comes with age. Just time alone will see them become more consistent. You cannot skip the growing pains of kids, and this is a team being assembled for future years. Likely to add Quenda at RWB too who is only 17. Madness.

I wanted to create a similar thread and came across this one. Thank you.

No one is happy with our current position, but for the first time, I have the feeling that the right steps are being taken to build a solid foundation and not just paint over the cracks.

I am frustrated with the results, as most people are, but I try to stay positive. I was surprised that people really suggested sacking RA after what he inherited at the club. I am also sure that if we had scored first against Palace, we would have won that game. You can see the idea becoming clearer with each game, and small improvements which hopefully will soon show in the results.

  1. Deadwood is being cleared
  2. Signing high potential players globally
  3. Clearing wage bill of high earners who don't put the effort in
  4. Having a proper footballing structure
  5. Building with a clear identity.
Hard for people to see when it's only been 8 months but the reality is INEOS done the ugly parts and made the hard calls. Fans can't see it because it's not reflected on the field or with signings yet.

The fans that go to the games, especially the away games. When you watch it on TV you can always turn it off, but they keep singing loudly for the boys

Some great therapy reading so far.

I'm looking forward to the cup competitions and also how Dorgu fits into the team and the effect an actual wing back will have on the system overall.

With the thin squad we should see minutes for some youth team players also and you never know, one of them might stake their claim in the senior squad ahead of time.

Fortunately I’m living on the other side of the world, and so my decision to switch off until August and hope for a successful summer signing period is easier. To be honest, watching United is not a pleasure currently especially having to view the games at early mornings. The damage done by the Glazers and Woodward, and exacerbated by the last couple of coaches needs patience and time to correct. It’s now that time and happy to wait and see the outcome.

Yes and we have a bunch of talented players in the academy set up and other players we have signing.

Kone, Chido Obi, Leon, Heaven
Kukonki, Thwaites, Fletcher twins, Amir, Mantato, Scanlon,

I am hopeful we can get 3-4 players from the above into regular squad players for our senior team in the next 1-3 seasons.

We didn't give Ruud the job when we would have done pre-Ineos. And we finally chucked Rashford out. Those are the only positives from this season.
