Just had a bombardment of texts off a friend who went to watch Joker 2 saying he was so appalled, he’s walked out of the cinema 50min into the film and that he wasn’t the first to do so during the showing . Says he’s never walked out of a cinema before, and that set me off thinking as I’ve never actively got up and left a movie I’ve paid money to watch, whereas at home an awful movie simply gets turned off. Fell asleep a number of times during disinteresting films in the cinema, which is effectively the same thing I suppose, but getting up and walking out? Only ever done that with a theatre production, never a film.

So what about you, has anything been such an affront to your sensibilities that you’ve elected to leave in protest? If you have, what was the movie?

The only reason I didn't walk out of The Happening is because I was convinced there was a punchline coming. That's the closest I've ever come to it though.

Only 2 films ever. Face/Off and Legends of the Fall. Bloody terrible films.

I went to see Batman and Robin with a few of the lads. The worst movie choices always involve that group. I was very sorely tempted to walk out but I wasn't driving so was dependent on the others to get home.

I used to go to sneak previews while at uni and walked out once or twice when it wasn't for me. Can't remember what movies though.

Once. It was my first proper movie date, I was scared shitless and really didn't know what to do and how to prepare for it. Turned out the only movie available was Burnt by the Sun 2 (hopefully no one had seen it) and we walked out 10 minutes in.

When I watched The Tree of Life I wanted to walk out, because I just couldn't bear anymore of the pretentiousness. I didn't leave however, so at least I can say I have seen the film.

The only other time I have wanted to walk out was Thor: Love and Thunder and it felt like a mistake already after about 2 minutes. Again, I didn't. Absolut dross of a film.

Giggled a few times reading his texts - he's normally quite level-headed, so this has really piqued my curiosity.

The cost of going to the cinema these days, there's just no way I wouldn't vet what I am going to watch in some way. If it sounds or feels like it's going to be a waste of £20, I'll wait for the home release.

I would've walked out of Kung Paow if I'd seen it in the cinema, I think.

It was appallingly stupid film with 2 hideous examples of hammy overacting.
Exactly!

You just don't like fun.

I was very close to walking out of trap and asking for a refund. The only film I've considered doing it.

Hammy acting>??!?!?

He was robbed off an Oscar for face/off. ROBBED.
To be fair he had won Best Actor the year before and the Academy clearly wanted to give someone else a chance.

Look at that gif. The frustration and anguish in his eyes. And the cocaine.

I’ve never walked out. I did go and see Holmes & Watson with my brother, and suffered through the entire thing.

On the way out, he goes “that was shit.” It turns out we’d both sat there hating the film because we each thought the other one was enjoying it.

had to walk out of frozen 2 because the woman behind me kept tutting loudly and talking during the film. really made it hard to finish my wank.

I wasn't a woman and you were doing it wrong. You need to put some circular wrist action and spit on it.

Independence Day 2 when the former president gives a shitty speech.

The Mask, it was that day I realized Jim Carey is massively overrated.

"A look at the horrors of the Eastern Front of World War II from the points of view of repressed soldier of penal battalion and his young daughter, who stayed behind enemy lines."

If that wouldn't get her in the mood, nothing would.

I walked out of Schindlers Lists after 30 minutes.
I was told to bring a box of tissues but there was fk all worth wanking about.

Came reeeeeallly close during Killers Of the Flower Moon. Literally dont know why I stayed. Worse movie I've seen this year and that's saying something after seeing Joker 2.

I walked out of The Passion Of The Christ.

Those turture scenes were disgusting.

Yeah

And it's not even a good movie. It's a terrible, terrible movie by a very flawed director. He actually got the Oscar for the first one but a lot of time had passed since then. There is a famous scene where... well, I'm not going even try to describe it. The action starts at 1:14

We've missed it, thankfully, since we left at the very beginning.

I actually thought I hadn't, but I just realised I walked out of a Micky Flanagan gig because he was just not funny. I did wait until the interval to confirm with my partner that she did in fact want to leave too, which thankfully she did. He's less funny than Lucy Beaumont and she's absolutely tragic.
