Have we signed anybody yet..?

Manchester City - Nobody yet
Liverpool - Emre Can, Rickie Lambert
Chelsea - Nobody yet
Arsenal - Nobody yet
Everton - Nobody yet
Spurs - Nobody yet

We've nothing to fear then, we should be safe for the 7th we got last year.

Never mind that Chelsea have 95% wrapped up Costa and Fabregas, and that Mourinho tends to have a strong second season...

We've picked up a top shelf manager who happens to be out on WC for the next month. Be patient.

Don't get mad! Just asking.

I'm already detecting similarities with last summer. Some of our (reported) top targets already falling wayside like Kroos, Hummels, Strootman. We were supposed to be disinterested in Fabregas but according to some reports we're interested again because some of First List Targets have given us the heave-ho. And whatever happened to that Southampton kid, what's his name - or yeah, Shaw?

In the mean time, just like last summer, our rivals are quietly signing players...

I'm pretty busy nowadays so, I was just asking: have we signed anybody yet?
if you believe everything in the papers it will be a very up and down and frustrating summer. They will make up things every single day because it sells papers and gets clicks. Very small % of it is even loosely based on good information

You really don't get it do you.

Woodward had some transfers half done but it seems van Gaal overruled him.

I also had on good authority that Konoplyanka was going to be signed last week. Don't know what's wrong with that move.

With our manager at the world cup we were always going to have a poor June. For our best, I hope the Dutch crash out before the knockouts.

The manager has absolutely nothing to do with transfers other than to pick the target. Once that's done it doesn't matter if he's in England, in Brazil, or in Timbuktu... he's got nothing to do with the business. That'll be handled by Woody. So nothing should in theory stop the business from happening other than the fact that some of the identified players are in Brazil for a month. We should also be seeing some movement out of the club but its all quiet on that front too... too quiet really.

That's not always true. It varys from club to club.

similar to my thinking.
of course where all nervous and worried after last summer and the season that followed.

but like you say we have hired a great manager(my opinion the best possible manage we could have hired this summer)
unfortunately the down side of his hiring is that his commitments to the Netherlands means it will likly delay any summer transfer activity.

personally i think thats a fair trade. the best manager going for a frustrating start to the transfer window seems a fair deal, of course we still need to get the summer right when Van Gaal is finally at carrigton.

This. We needed to get our business done early and we've failed to do so. What I don't understand is why the club were doing deals with Moyes still in charge despite knowing he was going to get axed once it was mathematically impossible to get top four, it was always likely a new manager coming in was going to have different targets.
We didn't need to though, because we could still sign plenty of players.

News update!

Woodward is currently visiting Iceland with two of our best accountants. He's haggling on the price for a multipack of frozen mini sausage rolls. He's hoping his final offer of 30 pence and some fluff he found in his jacket pocket will be enough to seal the deal.

Edit: it wasn't.

Strange I heard he was trying to Lockdown Froddo as the official candy of MU

Thats like saying you only have to buy a ticket to win the lottery.

It's a lot easier than that. In simple terms, as long as the player is prepared to join the club then just pay the price.

It happens all the time.

We needed to IMO, of course we could still sign plenty of players but the question is whether they will be good enough.

Good on paper doesn't mean he'll be great in our team. Look at Veron, Kagawa, Forlan, Berbatov.

Also, relative unknown can be spectacular. See Vidic, Evra, Ronaldo, Hernandez

We should be able to trust LVG. I'm sure he wants to win as much as we do so I'm sure he'll make the signings he need.

With Vidic, Evra and Hernandez yes they were relatively unknown but they were also cheap transfer like them are a dime a dozen. Fergie tried to find more of them like Obertan, Bebe ect.....and they were awful signings.

Not in Europe, no. In the PL, though, it is, and has been for three weeks now.

Hence why no big moves have been made yet.

I heard we signed another commercial deal...does that count?

Doesn't explain the Shaw transfer though. No reason why we shouldn't have wrapped that up already.

It's already been explained to death, Southampton are in no rush to sell while Shaw is a level headed lad who doesn't want to rush into making big decisions for his future.

We've offered £27m, that's been as good as confirmed as has £100k a week. Both are more than generous and as a United fan even though it's not my money is rather we didn't have the piss taken out of us and go higher for the sake of it.

So it's out if our hands, we've done our bit, balls in their court.

Who cares if we're a success on the pitch as long as we're a success off it?

This is what happens when you have money men, not football men running the club.

I would have thought that the latter is wholly dependent on the former. As much as I dislike the people who own and run the club, this simple fact surely hasn't escaped them.

Never understand why a commercial deal is frowned upon. Do you want us to say no to lucrative money deals especially when we are facing a prospect of lesser revenue for other reasons.

Its not like a commercial deal is hampering our chances to sign a player, slag the transfers if you like but these two things are independent and both important.

Infact more commercial deals only help your funding.

I've no faith in Woody

He is capable of everything, maybe we will sign Lallana for 35 million and Shawcross for 25.
