Yup. All those short corners were just wasteful. I was giving them time to see if they had some plans for a few games. Turned out nothing.

Our players aren't even ready for it. Utter stupidity. I've seen better improvised short corners in Hackney Marshes.
In fairness, our corners last season were dreadful. How many did it take for us to finally score?

What has Maguire as CF got to do with it? He would've been up for the corner no matter what his position was.

It's usually taken short, then passed to the corner of the box for the angle but that player never puts the ball in. Instead they pass it centrally to someone who has no business being there to cross it i.e Fred, Malacia and then they run out of options and have to go backwards. Very confused.

I believe the plan yesterday was that if we use our corners to intentionally launch their counter attacks for them, we'll be more prepared for them.
We ended up back at the keeper with one last night. Mind boggling stuff
Short corners should either be:
Passed to someone on the edge of the box to shoot
Passed to someone who crosses first time or after one touch
If the ball is not in the box after two touches its a waste.

My favourite part of this was when we suddenly decided to float a couple in at the weekend, against probably the most proactive keeper in the league in Martinez.
It was probably one of the worst corners I’ve ever seen 3 passes and Dubravka ends up with it .

It’s very rare. I forget the numbers. It’s way way rarer for us though. And I suspect it’s less rare for teams facing us too.
we still look more likely to concede from a corner than to score from one. ffs erikkson is a brillant set piece merchant, let him wang them in.
Somehow, no matter who is the manager, our corners are invariably crap. Set piece specialists like Bruno, Eriksen, etc. end up taking corners which hit the first man, or we end up taking short corners that end up as a goal kick.

Feels like across all teams and levels ots become increasingly uncommon compared the past 15-20 years. Presumably from drilled defensive coaching being able to virtually nullify the threat.
No I would say that football is a fashion game. You don't see near post flicks certainly with us. Maguire for all his faults is a good header of the ball and if he is at the near post for flick ons he will create trouble for the other team. We don't do it. We get him as the final target. And he always gets his head to the ball but always off target too.
We may aswell reject corners when we get them. Just give them a goal kick instead.
