Has winning two trophies in two years caused more problems for United than it has solved?

Solskjær as already told us this but he was laughed at because people thought he was making excuses up as to why he reached finals and never won any. He said that winning trophies can cover up how far behind you actually are. It’s all about progressing in the league. Anyone can win a cup trophy on their day.

Honestly, this place is insane.

We beat the scousers and city to win the FA Cup. We celebrated because that's what you're supposed to do when you win a trophy.

For all their talk of progression, Arsenal have not won anything in 4 years and routinely bottle it every chance they get. 2nd - 4th place in the league gets you nothing to celebrate. Success in the FA Cup gets you an FA Cup trophy.

This was Real Madrid when they won the Copa Del Rey in 2011. People on here would have accused the club of being small time if we'd done a parade in May. https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...l-madrid-celebrate-copa-del-rey-victory-video

Nonsense.

Ole had several chances to put a marker down in 2020 and 2021 and give the whole club a lift. He bottled the FA Cup and Europa semis in 2020 and then did the same with League Cup semi and Europa final the following year. Who knows where we'd be if he'd won at least one of those. Maybe nothing would have changed but at least he'd have a winners medal or two to look back at. Winning trophies is never a bad thing.

"Anyone can win a trophy" isn't really true is it? Yeah, you get a Wigan or a Swansea occasionally but it's usually the top teams that win them. Guardiola's city team won 4 consecutive League Cups ffs and regularly reached other finals. That's the benchmark. That's what we should be aiming for. Playing the kids in the cups so we can maybe put together a title challenge occasionally is not a good strategy.

What an earth are you talking about? If ole had won one of them trophies you think things could have changed. Well news flash ETH has won 2 in 2 years and nothings changed yet. Who cares if he would have had a Winners medal to look back at. He was getting whooped of teams like Watford. Which showed we didn’t progress in the league. And yes anyone can win a trophy. We won the FA cup against the best team in the league in the same season where we finished 8th. Also you can get to a final by playing easy teams all the way and then fluke a final. Where as in the league you need consistency. The league is where you show progression. Winning trophies isn’t.

I’d take our position of winning 2 trophies over the last few seasons than Arsenal who have finished second and are making better progress in the league. Until Pep leaves City there is no hope for anyone else in the league.

You could argue the hardest thing to do in football is Win a trophy...wining one is NEVER a bad thing!

Plus irrespective of any trophies INEOS are still going to overhaul the squad...we need to remember they have only been here a few months.

If United can win another trophy during the next 2-3 transfer windows the club/team should be in a very good shape.

FA Cup win has set us back a year or maybe two for sure. League cup was only positive even thought we’ve dropped off since that win.

Again. Absolute nonsense.

There's zero negative from beating city in an FA Cup final.

The main difference being winning a trophy is winning a trophy. Even if nothing had changed and everything post 2020/2021 had happened in the exact same way, we'd still have a couple of trophies to look back at.

Why do we watch football? To watch our teams progress slowly and fail or for days like last seasons FA Cup final? Given the high turnaround of players and coaches, there's never any guarantees that these projects ever become a success.

A team like Arsenal may have shown progression but what do they have to show for it? I'm sure Gunners fans will enjoy reminiscing about challenging city for a bit in when talking fondly about their progression between 2022 and 2025 before all their good players moved to city and Real Madrid. Give me a League Cup and/or FA Cup over a failed title challenge.

Ye I get what you’re saying and I’m buzzing we’ve won trophies and especially the FA cup against city. We hadn’t won a trophy for like what 6 years or something before ETH. But we all watch football aswell to watch our team play entertaining football and we don’t get to see that week after week. We watch us lose games week after week. If we can challenge for the top 4 aswell as make finals season after season then that will be a lot more satisfying.

What the feck is this? How the hell is winning a trophy a bad thing.

No, please don't make this about ETH vs Non ETH. Sacked managers has won trophies and so that doesn't hold any water.

Sorry, this thread is embarrassing.

It's a bit like asking if not signing Michael Owen would have been better for us. Maybe, but we'll never know and we did alright anyway.
