Has Ronaldo ruined his legacy for you?

He ruined it for me with this quote

"I agree with the comments of the president of FIFA. What he said is right.”

“At the moment there is no agreement with Real Madrid. We have to wait for the next few days to see, but I do not know where I will begin next season.

“This is all I have to say at the moment.”

I've never liked him, but I at least appreciated him as a player before he left for Madrid. Now I just think he's a cretin and I will try and forget about him once he's gone. He's nothing more than just another ex player. He's not fit to lace the boots of the true greats who have graced this club. He doesn't represent what a club legend should be

Ruined legacy? There was no legacy after player said that he doesn't want to play for us and left for Madrid.

He’s a piece of shit both inside and outside of football. He can go do one.

Appreciate the footballer but don’t worship the man.

Maybe but then his legacy as a United legend has probably never been much of a concern for him I don't think.

Not for me. Don’t agree with his behaviour this season, but he’s had an exceptional career and brought some wonderful highlights and success to United fans.

The way United fans tend to treat Rooney - I don’t think being a United Legend is all that of an asset anyway.

wasn’t last summer like the 4th summer hes wanted to leave across his two spells, so four summers out of about eight he’s wanted out

For me his legacy is that he is one of the best modern day footballers and that he did play for Manchester United. He got developed as a footballer at Manchester United and he wanted to go when it was time for the club to reap (even more of) the fruits of that development. He did stay a bit longer for SAF but not because he loves Manchester United so much. Ronaldo only loves Ronaldo.

Im a Manchester United fan but when i think Ronaldo i think Real Madrid, not Manchester United.

Nar, was absolutely amazing for us in one of the best and successful times ever as a United fan.
Last season he was the only bright spark in what I always knew was coming, which was a complete collapse of Ole as manager.

This season it’s clear ETH told him early that he wasn’t a guaranteed starter and he simply can’t deal with it, he’s 38, that’s life, but I guess not being able to accept that is why he was so good.

I don’t really care now, better to get to January and let him find a new chapter. The big shame for everyone involved is that no one wanted him in the Summer; but that said he’s been perfect for ETH to really show these players who is boss, so there’s that silver lining.

I've always seen him as a footballing legend who I'm very fond of but he's certainly not a United legend.

This club and fans have this admiration for him but the feeling isn't mutual on his side i feel.

He's ruining it... Not completely, but he's 100% hurting it. Last season or wanting to leaving the summer is fine anyway. Funny as he genuinely thought big clubs would want him. But fine for him to want to leave.

This though? Nah. That's a line you don't cross. Disrespecting your teammates, your club, your fans just because he can't handle he is finished as a footballer. The guy wouldn't be happy if Portugal won a World Cup if he wasn't included. He'll be remembered as one of the best players to ever wear our shirt or any shirt, but also as a spoiled brat who was selfish and an absolute twat as a teammate and a 101 on how to not handle aging as a footballer.

He’s always been a prat. His actions this season are not out of character whatsoever. So, nah, doesn’t really change anything

Don't agree with this at all. Giggs and Scholes had to settle for being bit part players at the same age and they conducted themselves professionally.

Cry baby Cristiano has completely ruined his legacy here. I wouldn't even consider him a United legend now!

Don’t agree with what? I think he acted like a bellend, I’m looking forward to January when everyone can move on.

Yes. I will be voting Messi the next time the caf does one of those polls.

If only he'd known that, he might have just sat on the bench a few more minutes...

He acts a dick, we knew that last time around too

Yeah, I'm on this as well.

If Denis Irwin or Gary Neville or Ole or someone like that had started acting like this in their last years then that might undermine their status, because part of what I rate them for in the first place is being unselfish, team-first, reliable, etc. etc.

Whatever status Ronaldo had in my eyes (and I agree with others who said that "United Legend" is a bit far) was based on his talent and performance, and not in the slightest on an expectation of non-dickery. So this doesn't undermine it.

The short answer to that is not yet but he's working hard on it. If you wanted the longer answer then add....and he doesn't give a feck about his legacy either and if you want the definitive answer to that then also add and the answer was on the wall even though most of us (me included btw) didn't want to see it. Ronaldo never gave a feck about Manchester United. He came here at 18, SAF turned him into the best player in the world by simply scaring the crap out of him (ie not playing him whenever he dribbled too much) and he basically fecked off when he reached his prime. He never broke sweat for us and he even insulted the club (the slave thing) when he believed that such antics could open the gates for Real Madrid.

Ronaldo always cared about Ronaldo. Its what made him the best, its why we didn't trust him of not going to City and why no one really sees him as their legend.

That the reason he was so good is the reason he can't accept it. Virtually all world class players/athletes decline in their late 30's. Him not accepting this tells you everything you need to know about the ego of the man. United had just won and played our best game of the season but all he cares about is himself.

I never want to see him in a United shirt again now!

NO, guy's a football legend and he talks on the pitch ! the rest is for drama queens and there are plenty over here also

Well that doesnt too. As I said, being the best player isnt the same as being a legend, it doesnt always go hand in hand. In any case legends dont shit on their clubs like he's been doing for a while now.
We still sing the name of a guy who literally skipped a game to spend a weekend with actresses and allegedly turned up to a game drunk, not to mention another guy who was sacked by the club for slagging his team-mates off on MUTV. I think Ronaldo's club legend status will be fine despite his ridiculous behaviour.

I don't despise him but it's hard to see him as a club legend anymore. When he joined Real Madrid, at least we got money. Now he's not only draining money in salary but also stalling the progress of the squad as he's not suitable for Ten Hag tactics.
You can argue that if he left Juve for City, his legacy will also be ruined but at least he won't be our problem and City was going to win it with or without him anyway.

See now you mention it I actually think if he goes to City last season then Liverpool win the league instead, which maybe then spurs them on to win the CL and Quadruple.

So in that sense at least he's a United legend.

Nah, he’s always been all about himself and his connection with the club is overrated.

He cares more about his relationship with Sir Alex than us as a club. It’s why everyone knew he would sign for City if it weren’t for Sir Alex jumping in to convince him otherwise.

The curse of number 7, even Ronaldo is a victim of this shirt now. Hopefully the curse is broken now as it's gone full circle - that's some real bad juju there.

I already had a negative view of him from the way he left the first time around. I hope everyone else see why now.

What Legacy?

Yeah he spent a few seasons here, but his first few years he was developing and inconsistent, he had a good 06/07 season, excellent 07/08 season but then wanted to go Real, threw a strop, made some quotes about slavery and wanted to leave. He then gave us one more ok/good season.

Think a lot of his legacy was seeing what he did at Real, winning those Ballon D'or and saying "yeah he used to play for us"...

The way he's behaved since coming back has tarnished the good memories i had of him.

I don't think he gives a feck about SAF at all TBH. DDG and Ronaldo are the only two players left from the SAF's era. They are his ambassadors and the ambassadors of when United were great and successful. Ronaldo's petulance is not portraying either SAF or the many legends who lived that era well. Which is why I believe the likes of Evra and Keane are trying to minimise what Ronaldo is doing when in reality they'll probably want to smack him

I believe that Ronaldo once feared SAF. When the Portuguese joined us he was an 18 year old who used to dribble himself to the corner flag while SAF was the feckin Don Vito Corleone of football. Basically Ronaldo's career was in SAF's hands something the gaffer used to remind him whenever he fount himself on the bench with Fletcher being played as a RW. Things had changed now. SAF had been retired for a decade and Ronaldo thinks he's the GOAT.

I never considered him a United legend so nothing has changed here
That’s interesting. A lot of the rival fans I speak to always mention how he’s a United legend and should play. Could be because they know we’re a weaker outfit with him in the starting 11.

I dont think he respects SAF either. Leaving the game like that after the so called father figure who probably helped brought him back into the club presented an award to him just a few days prior.

Its obvious the club and most of the fans still saw him as a legend. Maybe not so much now.

Who's the first guy and are you actually comparing Roy Keane's legend status with Ronaldo?

As for his status, some think he's a legend some not so in that sense it will be fine. Maybe the shift will go to the side of not being a legend now more.

I don't think so. You have to be able to seperate the person from the player and the player we had was an absolute joy to watch.

Someone like giggs is still a United legend but he's a trash human.

That's for me, I know other people won't see it that way.

But things Ronaldo did cause of which he's not considered a legend he's done as a player. I dont care about his personal life nor does that make him a legend or not.

Wasn't a legend in the 1st place. A Man Utd icon yes, but not a legend.

Also you cant compare Giggs with Ronaldo imho. Giggs did bad things off the pitch. Ronaldo brought his disrespectful antics to the office, the club who raised him.

He ruined his legacy with us when he forced his move to Real.

Him coming back when his career was over is just embarrasing for everyone involved.

George Best. Some of his behaviour was on another scale but we still look at him as a legend and rightly so.

End of the day you can agree or disagree with his status but his name will be heard around OT for years to come, particularly after he has retired, alongside other legends like Best, Keane, Cantona, RVN, Ole and many others.
